Hello,

All motherboards have an IDE connection but only newer boards will have S-ATA. If your computer is more than 2 years old, play it safe and buy the IDE version. S-ATA is the newer technology and will eventually replace IDE altogether but during this transition period newer motherboards still have IDE.

Or check to see if it has SATA. If so, then get the SATA one. Regardless of speed issues, the cables are small and airflow will benefit.

heat!

not all new motherboards will have IDE but will have SATA so check before buying

and some will only have 1 IDE port which means 2 IDE devices max

Why did you not claim under warranty?
#21
I did get a refund eventually from Amazon. Had to make lots of calls to them and Pioneer before they agreed. Amazon originally told me there is only 6 month warranty but finally gave me back my money. New LG was only £13.99 and reads anything including 'old' dvdr's that the Pioneer wouldn't!

6 month warranty?! Isn't that breaking some consumer law somewhere? Why the cheating, lying scumbags! That's really cheeky of them actually as they would have been well aware that under the Sale of Goods Act 1979, they have to provide goods that are "fit for purpose" and reasonably "durable". If they are not, then they are obliged to sort out the problems for you... Given that most people would expect a DVD drive to last longer than 9 months, your device could not be considered fit for purpose or durable... Glad you got it sorted in the end tho!

Apparently Amazon told me that all there goods are 6 month warranty. If you check their website you can get a refund on-line up to that time. After that you have to phone them and try to explain to a call centre person what the problem is (they were all American in my case and more difficult to understand than a call centre in India and not as polite). Because the item was no longer available from Amazon they would not supply a replacement and because it was past 6 months they would not offer a refund either. They told me to contact Pioneer to get it repaired. Pioneer told me they don't bother repairing them and told me to get a replacement from Amazon. CATCH 22. I think I only got my refund after being very persistant and others might have given up. BAD Amazon:x

On the look out for a decent SATA as my case looks like a fatties lunch-box at the moment. I'm sure Scan had this for less than a quid more on "Today Only" the other day so might be worth a butchers there if you're after other stuff to make up the free delivery!

Still on offer :) just used the 5% code and got it for £15
