I'm aware this was available earlier in the year from Play for £149.99 - but it didn't last long and it's back to £199 there

However AskDirect are doing it for £179 delivered; which is the best price I can find on the Internet.

Not only is this an excellent addition to your 360; but it also have two optical inputs - much better than similar products around this price!
Indeed, by all accounts it's an excellent home theatre system even if you don't have an XBOX 360

looks nice, but cant see that it has a dvd player on it? an I wrong?

No DVD unit with this
It's a standalone decoder for attaching DVD units, and/or consoles too.

Many 'Home Theatre' Systems [around this price] with a DVD unit don't allow external inputs - they are completely self contained, and usually poorer quality.

This system has multiple inputs, and can expand with your set-up

so would this be suitable for people with e.g a PS3 or who already have a dvd player/recorder ?

I find this really annoying, I like the idea of a DVD + amp simply as a neater solution however none I could find even had a single optical input.

I picked one of these up from Play which I'm very pleased with it - it has three optical inputs (one branded as Xbox 360 though) and at least one analogue, not sure what else though.

The Xbox 360 side is pretty handy as you get a combined remote control which works with the amp (obviously) and the 360 as a media remote - really handy for me as I use the 360 frequently for DVD/HD DVD, with the remote I can power up the amp and 360, then kick off the DVD all from the same remote.

I have both the Logitech z5500's and this system. The Logitech's are on my PC, and this system is hookup up to DVD and 360.

In terms of sound quality/output, there's not much in it, but the Pioneers look more 'lounge friendly'.

Actually, the Logitechs are better for music, and the Pioneers are better for games and movies.

I'd prob go for the Pioneers out of the two.

Those of us who nabbed this set a while back (which included 2x free Xbox 360 games) at the price of £150, had an absolute bargain.

This is less of a bergain, but a good price nonetheless!

Hope that helps.

There is also this JVC alternative:

But the reviews aren't quite as good as the Pioneer.
Notice how much the Pioneer 'can' go for...

The DVD + amp with optical input do exist. I have the Sony dav 550 and use the optical input on there. There is a thread on AVForums which has examples of other models.
