Pioneer 37 inch tv.

I know they are no longer making tvs but is this price a good deal?

In store it was marked last few and a model was on display. I have not seen cheaper than 799 online. It is 799 on Comet too but out of stock.

In january I remember this being close to 899.

Yeah was in there last night. I am a bit concerned about greying and lighting issues. Have seen too many sets returned for this reason online.

This especially put me off the 40w5500 model of Sony.

get the 40w4500 if u can!

i work in a sony centre and they were like rocking horse sh*t!! great set!!

For years I have always heard and believed that Pioneer made the best screens. They are stopping??? Why?

That model is on M&S site for £999 including 5 year warranty. I suspect its end of line stock. Good model though.

Its in RS catalogue for £949 but i doubt its in stock!

their main product for screens were plasma and the The government are trying to ban plasma due to the consumption of energy they have in a world where we are trying to cut global warming. But the are fantastic tv's!!

£999 isnt too bad! its what we were selling it at with a 5 year too. We have a refurb here at about 750 i think but no 5 year! im tempted to buy it after a big win on an accumilator!!!:whistling:

also won tv of the year award with whathifi!!

I would only buy with 5 year warranty. my last TV is nearly 5 years old and seems to work fine still. Minor issue of space though. Soooo bulky.

I am keen to get a 100hz tv. Although not sure if 1080P is needed.

The review for the KLR37 on what hifi gave 4 stars due to price and lighting. Strange the KRL37 is 899 in RS catalogue I just picked up. Maybe a pricing error in store?

it might be. if ur going to 37 or 40 then i say 1080p is deffo needed, but depends on what ur gonna be doing with it? 100hz is a massive improvement for anything u watch. I've still got a KDL-L32MRX1 sony tv which i love to bits but doesnt have HDMI which isnt too bad cos still got component! one of the best tv's there has been IMO, but i do need to update! and the 4500 was the one i was keen on

ive heard all about this led lighting....its just a backlight thing....i truely believe its more of a gimmick than anything. We've got a KDL-46X4500 instore with led bkaclight and although the picture is great....i still think its a gimmick! Just get a decent contrast ratio, 1080p and 100 hz and you'll b sorted....providing its a decent manufactuar!

Its food for thought.

I am half expecting prices to rise still due to the value of the pound. on the other hand there are a lot of new models out this may all with quirky/ gimmicky features.

That and the fact a lot of the reviewers are forced to say nice things or they won be allowed to review the next model. :whistling:

Thanks Gummby and Stephen 2K5 good opinions. I would to like to hear your thoughts on the w5500 as although yes the What HI-FI review wasnt the best, other reviews have been very good to it plus although there may be backlighting issues wouldnt it be covered by the 3/5 year warrantys that are available from most places these days?
For me it is either this Sony (As i am a Sony fanboy) or one of the Samsung LED backlight ones

From what I read on whathifi and avforum is the greying and lighting isues plague the W5500.

I am not sure about the Samsung ones. There seems to be a lot of good reviews on them for the price point they come in at.

End of day nothing like going into a shop and viewing the real thing. My local empty Richer Sounds today had none on display. Almost felt guilty asking the staff a question so i walked out. hehe

Ive seen it in the sony centre by me and they keep on raving about it plus also i couldnt see any problems with it, so really dunno wot to do about it as although like stephen2k5 recommended the w4500 ive also heard that had the same probs - doin me head in now - got another month to wait then im just gonna pick wotever is the better deal at the time

Having recently purchased the Pioneer, I can say this set is awesome. I had a Pioneer plasma and whilst it was great, it suffered from screen retention possibly burn. So I bought this LCD expecting the picture quality to be substandard compared to plasma but I'm really blown away. There is no comparison to Sony's LCD (particularly when watching Freeview).

BTW This model was £1200 not so long ago. The reduced price might still be more expensive than other LCD or plasma models but this is a good deal for this model.

Popped back into my local RS in Guildford.

They stated they had 3-4 in stock of the Pioneer and were still able to get them on supply.
He stated the website price had now dropped to £799.95. The sales person seemed to think this model was not selling fast due to the price and old technology.

I asked about the Samsung 40 inch 7020b and was informed none in stock but 20 in warehouse. £1199. :whistling:

I was then pointed towards a 37 inch LG model at £699 that is selling well. Hmmm.

Choices choices.
