With the Pioneer S-SLW500 you get a passive subwoofer, from a top brand for less than the price of a night at the cinema for two!

BOOST YOUR BASS

Using a dedicated 16cm cone and a bass reflex cabinet, the Pioneer S-SLW500 is the best value way of boosting your bass. Ideal for use with speaker packages, such as Pioneer's own S-SL100 5.0 pack, this passive subwoofer also works well with a wide variety of other speakers. With the potential for bass to drop right down to 35Hz (dependant upon your amplifier) this Pioneer sub adds real wallop to both music and movie soundtracks.

EASY TO POSITION

With its specially designed, low profile cabinet, the S-SLW500 has been designed to fit where other subs won't go. Mount it on a rack, alongside a system or under furniture; this Pioneer sub will slide in with ease. Should you prefer, it can also be used vertically. Supplied non-slip pads help quell any vibrations and 3m of basic speaker cable is provided to get you going straight from the box.

Ideal as your first subwoofer or as a replacement for an existing passive system sub, the Pioneer S-SLW500 is a sub-sonic bargain!

£9.99 with free delivery :-)

Bought. Not wanting it as a sub just want the case to use as a HTPC custom case for my living room. Cheers OP.

Trying to find a case that doesn't have lights, USB, front audio, drive mount that is nice looking costs a fortune. Now I will have a blank canvas to start with once I gutt the insides.

Unknown brand; avoid! Go for something reputable like a Sony.

Are you for real? oO
Good one. Pioneer unknown. Obviously you have no clue about av equipment :{
Go back to sleep :)

I think that comment would have been in reference to the infamous joke on here from a few years ago when loughboroughguy in an Onkyo thread said the same thing.

Thanks, OP.

yeah great looking case, however keep in mind if yu want to use this item on your stereo system you will need a AMP to power this .

My Kef active sub died years ago, tempting to add this to bring back some low level bass.
Not worth buying anything high spec as my neighbours hated it...

These subs are for pretty old AVs are they not? From what I've seen, all the latest AV received require active ones! Amazing price of course...

edit: These were only £19 on eBay from Richer Sounds so don't be fooled by the £49.95 rrp on the site.

Bought on amazon with my gift certificates, it will match my pioneer amp to:) thanks

I'm not to sure the point of this, If you put it in an AV unit, You then need an amp to power it, If you wish to use it in combination with an AV Amp which will only have Sub line level out, You now have this, The Amp to power it, The AV Amp, And any other box's, And if you are using an AV Amp, You shouldn't be hampering it with this.

It is cheap, But a bit pointless, Which may be why it is cheap, And I can't see the bass this produces being worth the real estate it and it's Amp will take up.

Looking around at pics the enclosure looks like mdf with a thin brushed metal finish front panel.

This doesn't look like it has it's own crossover either, so you'll need to use it with a dedicated amplified sub output - something you won't find on a modern AV receiver. Many moons ago I built my own home cinema using 3 stereo power amps for Front L+R, centre, rear L+R and passive sub. It was complete overkill for movie audio but sounded great. The weak link being the passive sub - I binned mine and bought a cheap active one, thus leaving a blank channel on the power amp, however the bass was a thousand times better.

Of the internals so I can see how he's done it (_;)

will it work with the PIONEER HOME CINEMA SYSTEM HTP072 ?
#31
looks = great.

Bet it'll sound pants - 35hz, but at what spl? And with no internal crossover, your Amp will need a dedicated driven channel........

Maybe worth using if you have an extra amped channel under your bath or something, and a spare crossover.

sorry, this is probably a really question, I know very little about hifi connections.

Just wondering if this can be fitted to the car as a cheap sub woofer if the headunit has sub out. (don't laugh, a genuine question. got the Pioneer AppRadio)

No, because the sub out is only a pre-out. It will still need an amp.

Some older AV receivers and systems do have a passive subwoofer output- it'll just be on standard red/black speaker outputs. If you just have a single socket on your AV amp or dvd/BD system, then YOU WILL NEED A SEPARATE AMPLIFIER to power this and to be honest, you'd be far better looking on eBay or similar for a 2nd hand powered REL, MJ Acoustics etc, rather than faffing around with cheap tat like this and bodging separate amps together.

yep they should work a treat. I have ordered two, one for under each seat.
Its a shame there is no impedance rating on the RS website but Im sure it'll be 4-8 ohm

my car only has front speakers at the mo, So im going to wire these in as rears (and use the front to rear fade on the head unit for level control). "But what about a filter!" I hear you say... Im not going to bother, just gunna let em have all the frequencies see how they sound. If its bad, i think I have some filters out of some old door speakers, failing that, a capacitor and an inductor should do the trick (SCIENCE B**CH!).

should be good if driven with a good after market head unit (mines a 52WPC[rms] Sony)

[ interested how it turns out? then message me next week n I'll tell you how bad it went (_;) ]

This is by far the best comment so far :D I for one will be tuning in - I've got exactly the same idea in mind! 8) Where's the spirit of experimenting and making things these days!? It's a tenner ffs!

Who cares if you need an separate amp - just buy one! Ebay is strewn with things like THIS
