The Pioneer SHS100 speaker pack makes the perfect match for your Pioneer AV receiver or an ideal partner for any other brand of home cinema.

At both front and rear the Pioneer S-HS100 uses cute and compact, cube speakers. These feature a 7.7cm cone driver for a surprisingly spacious and dynamic sound quality. Being so compact they can easily be positioned on bookcases, mantelpieces or even discreetly mounted on the wall. The front speakers are shielded so they won't affect any stored data or CRT screens close by. The centre speaker is acoustically matched to the other satellites but features a longer casing for a broader, more even spread of dialogue. Together, the sound stage produced by the satellite speakers is enveloping and fulsome.

To add some heft to proceedings, the Pioneer SHS100 comes complete with a powerful subwoofer. With a built-in 100 watt amp and a generous 16cm cone, the S-HS100 drives soundtracks along with real conviction.

For a stylish, discreet and decent sounding speaker package, the Pioneer S-HS100 deserves to be on your shortlist.

Active Or Passive Subwoofer Active or passive subwoofer included for greater bass active
Maximum Power Handling Maximum power handling in watts RMS 150

depends on how much your willing to spend really, there are dozens of brands and varying prices but a good quality one thats 3D ready and HD will cost a few hundred pounds, (i.e. £250-£300+).
i'd recommend either SONY, Pioneer, Onkyo or even Samsung, unless you wanna spend (a lot) more, then you'd go for the likes of: Harman-Kardon, SONY's later models or B&W.

check these links out: http://www.whathifi.com/Search/receivers/

Eh? B&W don't make receivers, they're all about the speakers. Harman-Kardon are very much form over function/fidelity. Arcam, Denon, Onkyo, Pioneer, Sony and Yamaha are where you should be looking for AVR's.

For an amp, I'd just speak to the guys at richer sounds to be honest, The store in Cardiff is always good for advice

My bad buddy, i meant B&O (bang and olufsen), quick typing eh? ;) Harman-Kardon are actually very well recommended overall, theres no issue with the function.

I will post when I get a chance of setting it all up. If I can only find my setup microphone :(

Finish quality is good and sleek, Satellites are heavy which is a good sign. Sub is rather large ( I think I will carry on using my old Sony sub as it is smaller) and again finish quality is sleek.

Never heard of this brand before , ONKYO

These were this price at Christmas. I rang Richer Sounds and they told me these were 'OK' speakers but you get what you pay for. They sugested go for Jama or Tannoy...
I went for £50 more and got the Jama 5.1 set up that is highly recommended by WhatHiFi etc etc... and have to say well impressed (and I'm fussy)
was also lucky enough to get the Pioneer vsx420 from BestBuy on Christmas day online for £99.99 reduced from £249.99 so well happy!

quick note

These speakers are 6 ohm, luckly my vsx919 switchable to 6 from 8 ohm .

I was in the market for some entry level home cinema before the VAT increase, and I tested these and the Jamo A102 HCS5's. I went with the Jamos, as they sounded so much nicer than the Pioneers when connected up to the Yamaha RX-V667. If you've got the extra £50, go with Jamo. If not, then I'd be tempted to put spend a bit more on the receiver, and then get a really good set of speakers when you can afford them.

Totally sound advice from Bagpuss.
AVForums normally suggest, Onkyo, Yamaha, Dennon.
Not had a Denon. I have an Onkyo (and prior a Yamaha), but I'd get a Yamaha again next time, I just think its better for movies and gaming in my opinion.

so many options out there totally depends on your budget.
#21

Guys can you help please... Im looking for a good 5.1 set circa £150.... for use with my Sony Blu-Ray Player, TV and Xbox Elite.

If I bought the kit above... would I have everything I need to achieve this? (Less a few wires obviously)

Cheers in advance....

Not for £150 I'm afraid. An entry level AVR alone will set you back that much at least e.g. http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/Product_ID/6787

are these wireless?

no

In general if speakers don't say they're wireless then they're not wireless.

Is it just a case of hooking this up to a very good branded Blu-Ray/3D Blu ray player? If so a very good deal for £99. It may not set the world on fire but I'm sure it wouldn't be rubbish either!

Also, without a DVD/Blu-Ray player could this be hooked up directly to a PS3?

Thanks...

Already answered in the comments above.......To summarise, no you need an AV receiver.

Finally, Tonight I decided to take the challenge of removing my media cabinet out ( OMG 5 miles of cabling sitting behind it)

AV Receiver Pioneer VSX 919AH

running these Pioneer SHS100 speakers .

Only thing I can say is EXCELLENT value for the money. It is not the most amazing mind blowing speakers but if you have a good amp like mine :) They do sound impressive Just watched Resident Evil again and I am surprised no one called the police in my street due to high DB of noise levels coming from my house :) I must say I trained my kids rather well. Still sleeping like it was so quiet :)
