Possibly the worst broadband provider around. Even with 6 months free, it's not worth the headache of their service.
#2
As people in the Virgin thread are complaining of throttleing for 4 hours when they download in excess of 0.75 GB in just one day, I think they'll have fun here with a dl limit of just 2GB per month
#3
That`s why you get the six months free to let you catch up

1. This deal is awfully similar to the Talk Talk deal most likely tieing you into 12month contract or longer, which I note isn't even mentioned on the OP

2. Pipex are as bad as TalkTalk with awful and disgusting CS

3. Now that Virgin Media are imposing those throttling techniques, albeit without caps as such just speed limitations, it remains there is not 1 single ISP in the UK without a Cap/FUP/traffic shaping etc, this limit culture on British Broadband is here to stay folks.

If you do not mind poor speeds every evening and possibly having no internet for weeks at a time should anything go wrong due to their incompetence, want unlimited calls, do not mind the 1 year+ contractual period involved, get this and learn the hard way, otherwise for a reliable service stick with BT as your phone provider and choose another ISP.

I have been with PIPEX for 3 years, NEVER had a problem, download speed has always been adequate for my needs and have never noticed that the download speed has been restricted. My opinion couldn't be more different than yours;-)

Been with pipex a similar amount of time.. general browsing is about the same.. but they are very much a cloak and daggers slow you down / kill your bandwidth when you download lots.

Shame really that companies just dont promote loyalty now.. bet as an existing customer I can't get a deal like the new signups can!

Had so much trouble with Pipex, wouldnt use them if it was free for life!!

PIPEX are the most horrendous company EVER! Their broadband service is abysmal and customer service is equally shocking. Not to mention they took £341 out of my account "accidentally" and have supposdly "not received some payments". Con-artists!

that's my current problem with them, I left them to go to Sky Broadband and Pipex refuse to believe that Sky have taken over my broadband. They keep fobbing me off saying 'oh, we'll look into it', then handily never have a record of me ever calling.

They owe me nearly £125 in ill-gotten broadband fees (not Direct Debit so can't just cancel it). At least on the other hand I've only paid £10 a month to sky for the last few months, and getting roughly 12Mb from them.

Their CS has taken a right nose-dive in the last 12 months.

ALSO, I was previously on a Solo package, and was told I could not move to a Max package because it would cost them too much to change my line. I know they're referring to LLU, but how they expected to make me stay with them when it was cheaper to leave I'll never know.

Funny thing - I'm currently typing this on my Laptop on a train thanks to T-Mobile Web'n'Walk Plus - I'm getting a faster connection (256kbps) here than on my last day with Pipex.

"Never ever leave Pipex" - that seems to be my life story at the moment.

as i said in another thread the actual pipex internet is great with hardly any problems but the customer service is abismal always on hold and an 0870 number to boot.

i got a letter saying i owed them 43 quid i rang the 0800 number on the letter to say i wasnt paying it and the woman didnt even know what the ammount was for! she rang another department to find out and was put on hold on her own system ahahaha. i later rang back and found out that because it was on an old database they couldnt find what the money was for. I asked the obvious question "so if i hadn't called today you would have charged me for nothing?" and the reply was "er oh we no we just cant find the information"

load of balls if you ever get a letter like mine call up and say you wont pay it worked for me. good net access but only on an unmetered package

Well the problem is that it costs an ISP per gig of use, and with people doing terrabytes of didgy downloads on some unlimited services they have ruined it for normal usage people. ISP's can't afford to lose £000's per month on customers that use so much bandwidth so limits have to be put in. You don't pay a flat fee for unlimited gas or electric why should you for broadband,

Why should we? Because thats how it is sold by the ISP....not our fault if they have screwed up their business model.

I'm not denying that.

Typical Joe Bloggs in the UK does not realise nor care that what they are paying for is a contented service, they pay for 8mbit say, they expect 8mbit, silly expectations really.

2mbit 1:1 contention SDSL would £200+/month so it's either this cap culture which BT and Cable have now successfully brought into the broadband market to maintain a Quality of Service or we become like so many other countries with bad or zero regulation (not that Ofcom is amazing) and crawl to a complete and utter halt on simple surfing come busy evening times for consumer internet.

Those are the only two choices until 21CN and Fibre rollout stages arrive, but even by 21CN such limits will still remain.

As for ISPs advertising 8mbit/16mbit/24mbit unlimited as if your pennies could ever pay for such a 1:1 contended service, they're lieing and know it, and cover their arses with small print which the ASA gives it's stamp of approval on.

Anyone who spends hundreds a year on thewir internet without researching and believed they were getting an uncontended perfect service deserves to suffer tbh, I have no sympathy for people who do not real the small print.

Our door is still ajar...
Dear Mr M X

We are sorry to hear that you are considering moving to another service provider for your broadband. At this stage we should have already discussed your migration request with you. If not, please give us a call so we can see if there's anything we can do.

Please find your MAC code below which will expire in 30 days time. If you do not use your MAC code then you will automatically continue to enjoy the benefits of your Pipex service.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Uh no Pipex the door is well and truly closed!

Avoid Pipex at all costs - they are useless.

well as you said it, if broadband is to be the same as gas or electric, then they will all be pay as u go, instead of monthly fees for broadband...

I must say that in the early days of broadband Pipex were a totally different company, would go as far as to say they were one of the best. But the last few years they have gotten worse and worse. Obviously they have grown massively in that time and as with most 'large' companies the end result after large and fast growth is a much worse company. For sure they are making more money now but for savvy consumers it ain't good news.
#19
I agree with Adidas Addict. I used to be with Pipex a few years ago and they were great, good customer service and only once lost the connection, but then it all changed, I think they had the new motto 'if the going gets good lets rip everyone off with a poor quality service'.
Left them 2 years ago and was the best move I did! Would never go back to them.

2gb limit!!!! - my email spam is 3gb daily!

guess i have to stick with vm throteling me
#21
Never leave them either.
They are the nuts
#22
Another one to add to the 'Pipex suck' brigade, wouldn't take up this offer if they were paying ME for using them for 6 months! I finally migrated away from them a few months ago after having been ripped off for months, recieved a letter from them a few days ago telling me I owe them £70 and they are taking it!

Now I have to go through the hassle of trying to work out how the hell you cancel a 'continuing credit card authority' with them!
#23
that everyone finished moaning?
#24
This is so ironic, I'm in the process of taking them to court to get 6 months back!!!

Nightmare company with no honesty!

Useful comments I feel, rather than 'moaning'.
