Never had any luck with the stones as they prevent air getting to the centre of the bread, so you end up with a soggy bottom. oO

Far better with one of these for £6, very heavy and they do work as I made my first "takeaway quality" pizza with it last week (pre-bake the base). :)

You need to pre-heat the stone for a while in a HOT oven. Did you do this?

Yep, made little or no difference, the tomato puree/pesto(? basically thick tomato juice) soaks into the bread in the middle because no hot air can get to it in time.

Never had a problem myself, I find it firms up better than without a stone.

I don't mind it, but it's more of a knife and fork job.

Eating a homemade pizza being able to pick up each slice was somewhat of a 2001: A Space Odyssey moment. :p

I do mine in my halogen cooker, they come very nice in that .

Yep, made little or no difference, the tomato puree/pesto(? basically thick tomato juice) soaks into the bread in the middle because no hot air can get to it in time.

If you're making home made pizza you need to learn that less is more. Don't put more than a table spoon of sauce on a medium sized pizza, and really only top with cheese and perhaps some dry ish ingredients like meats and precooked veg with low water content. But frankly, tomato, cheese and basil is all you need

Stone should be preheated at oven max for ~40 mins before baking the pizza

had this for a few months now, it bakes pizzas so well I love it, always crispy bases. they still sell them on Amazon. great value
