I have been waiting to get a good deal on this for ages so cant wait to watch this in full HD, its rated as one of the reasons to get a HD telly :-)
#4
thanks for this, been looking for it to drop below £30, plus the quidco, good deal, shame no current working voucher for Woolworths?

also if I choose the Collect in store option, do they just give me a copy that they already have in store?(or better let me choose a copy in store) or do they send a copy from their warehouse (like in Jersey) to my local store? need to ask because as I'm buying for collection, & unlike HMV who send their boxsets in cardboard boxes which gives the best protection, I think Woolies just send in bubble envelopes, not good protection for boxsets, I really don't want my copy to be all banged up, dented corners, cracked cases, loose disks etc.

Is this deal in store as well? (but even if the prices are the same, online with quidco still works out a better deal)

I got this a while ago on HD-DVD from Woolies. Next day delivery and the box was in perfect condition.
Although it was about half this price on HD-DVD this is still a HOT deal and a great way to show off your HD tv.

You can't beat Attenborough, forget all this Discovery channel nonsense.
The shots of the Dunes at the start of the 'Desert' episode are unreal, I thought it was CGI.

Agree, I've only seen bits of this previously in 1080i so am looking forward to seeing it in it's full 1080p glory! Great find and price too, seem to remeber buying this as an Xmas present last year for about £35 on dvd.

£17.99 @ HMV for the HD-DVD Version

Dont be dissappointed if you cant see much difference between 1080i and 1080p, i cant see any difference between the two from my own experiences.

Too late for me Mullva, as I did just that after getting a package deal of 40" Sony HDMI 1080p TV, Sony HDMI DVD player and stand that was a redhot deal on this forum. Very happy with that, but enthusiasm led me to go for a HD version of Planet Earth from HMV. Result, it wouldn't play as my DVD player though HDMI is not HD! Older and wiser now so pass on this sad tale, as you have, for others to learn from.

Why would it look any different in 1080p to 1080i? The resolution is the same and if your TV is 1080 resolution it would have converted from i to p anyway.

What a lot of ill-informed cr*p.

I bought this not long ago for £35, absolutely amazing series, would highly recommend it, especially in full hd.

If your worried about postage damage/want it now, the boxset is also available in-store at Woolies for £29.90!!!

(Especially as it's cardboard/gatefold packaging - not plastic casing).

Don't be too dissappointed either that the set is in 1080i in the UK, from what I recall it's only available in the US in 1080p. Still great though, got mine yesterday delivered from woolies (no postal damage at all, and very quick delivery)

In fact, maybe forget all that looking at http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=699507 especially a BBC response in post 19. Just had the wife check at home and it does appear to come up as 1080/24p on my Sony Bravia playing through a PS3 so maybe it is 1080p or maybe its 1080i and it's the same everywhere?! I'm probably more confused now!!

Got mine yesterday from Woolies pretty well packaged and not a mark on the box and all discs intact. The box does say 1080i so it'll be interesting to see what comes up when I play it through my PS3 and 1080p 24 tv.
Regarding the comment at 19 I would imagine that if watching through an HDTV smaller than 42" you might not be able to see the difference between 1080i and 1080p but you certainly can see a difference on a 50" plus tv.

all i can say is it look stunning, well worth the money.

Have been wanting this for ages! Very confused now.... popped into my local woolies whos didint have it and suggested i visit a bigger branch. Visited the Ilford branch, where staff told me that they dont sell it instore (in any woolies!) only over the inet for now. They said that they'll only be getting it in for xmas.... how confusing, has this happened to anyone else? I guess ill buy it online then, wish i could have used my capital bond vouchers instore though...

cant you buy it online and then go to a store and return it...then repurchase it immediately using your bonds?

erhum - the boxset is 1080i (states this on the back) - not 1080p - an believe me - you can tell: I compared it to the opening sequence of Shooter blu ray - and the sharpness of shooter is evident.

Still - it is very impressive either way; but clearly not 1080p... and yep - good deal at £29.99 (I paid £35 several weeks ago... D'oh!!)
