Because no one likes being told what to use, I'd rather have a CHOICE!

hu? yes cause joe bloggs can write films to blu ray without paying license fees :?
#11
One disc to rule them all! The two formats cannot work side by side. We only need one format to superceed DVD, why we want or need two different versions of basically the same thing. Before you had no choice in what films you got on bluray and what films you got on HD so there was no choice.

So all your ****** off about is that you can no longer pirate movies that are on blu-ray? :?
#13
Nice one, will be checking my local store tomorrow.
#14
As a hd dvd advocate.I have to admit when blueray reaches this kind of price level it could well be time to make the leap.

How wrong you are, check out some of chakra's releases: MKV files with a batch file that converts it to a compliant bluray disc that plays back in a ps3 just fine, 720p quality movie with 5.1 on a dvd5
#16
Mmm, didnt realise this site had torrent connections. My view of HDUK has just gone even higher ;)

Entirely correct, it's an exercise of copyright protection - not a 'new wonderland' of consumer satisfaction.
I'm just as guilty for not taking up high-def discs earlier, but I still fail to see how a stupid name* like Blu-ray is now taken as gospel as far as high-def is concerned.

*Format capacity aside, HD-DVD was a far more sensible name for the future of home film entertainment. Don't worry, the studios have decided for us.

Don't get me wrong, I have voted hot, this is a great series that looks fantastic in high definition. I just think the format war and implied reliance on a disc format has been frankly disgusting.
#24
hot but availability is cold with hardly any tescos stores yet to sell blu-ray, my local has only just started selling playstation3 games!! £18 for those tesco workers plus clubcard points.

Disgusting is what some people do to other people/kids/animals, or the cost of living rises/fuel prices etc. Politicians/businesses etc... not worth worrying about, let alone getting worked up about... IMHO
Anywho, staying on track, great deal. Even if you don't have a BD player this boxset looks awesome on your shelf. I particularly recommend having it near the TV or a photo of a loved one.
#26
I wouldn't suggest dvd5 sized things, dvd9 minimum
And it obviously won't be the same quality.

Relevant: Planet Earth is an awesome series.

Manipulating consumers into false beliefs is not disgusting?
Blu-ray is not magical, it's just data flying through a wire. I thought about your opinions in high-def but decided they were irrelevant and downscaled them :whistling:

I seriously want to reiterate that I think this is a great price on the item in question.
#28
ot price... 2months ago i paid £34 hmv

And no other business or retailer or company has ever previously done this??? But no it's not, child abuse is.
MBeeching;2392706
Blu-ray is not magical,

Neither is HD-DVD, both are a technological progression.
Sorry off topic, not going any further, I just don't think it's worth dying a grumpy old man coz BD won a war (by whatever means).

Asda will have them for £16 soon enough! LOL
#31
good price hot n rep, now to find it.....
#32
Great price, and about time. Next best price I could find was £35 from Zavvi, and £34.99 from BBC's online shop (but out of stock).
Will definitely check out Tesco on my way back from work tonight (probably in vain).
#33
Cheers for the heads up, I've had my eye on this for a while just waiting for the price to come down a bit.

I've had a few Bluray bargains thanks to my local Tesco's and this will be another hopefully.

I bought this a couple of days ago for £40. Can someone tell me if this offer is actually on??? Has anyone been down to their local store?
#35
doh. just bought at almost double!
#36
How can blu ray be a stupid name - its reference to the blue laser user for reading the discs! HD DVD was more confusing for the average Joe as people used to say 'so will this work in my DVD player cos its a DVD' so then followed an explanation over what a HD DVD is to a completely eye glazed over confused customer who would then walk out the shop still not understanding why his DVD player would not play HD DVD's.

Not everyone is technologically minded, some people have great knowledge and yes the HD DVD standard was probably more 'complete' than bluray but for Joe average, a new format with a new name thats also linked to one of the largest brand names ever created - Playstation won in the end.

I dont see how it was disgusting either bluray has more capacity which is probably the only reason to progress from DVDs quite frankly not alot of people are bothered about movies linking to websites etc, but they are bothered about having great picture and sound for their new 720p, 1080p TV sets and then in the future higher resolutions. At this present time the space is overkill but give it time and the producers will fill the disc, maybe the end to 4,5,6 disc collectors editions and just have 2 discs - take up less physical space so less packaging, manufacturing, shop space etc.

ON TOPIC:
This item at £19.99 is a steal, anyone know if its nation wide?
#37
Has anyone actually managed to find and buy this at Tesco for £19.99 since the OP posted it !? A lot of heat for something that hasnt been confirmed as a Nationwide offer.

If you don't know what its about how do you know its not your kind of thing? :?

I've give you a clue.. its called "Planet Earth".... can you guess what its about? :whistling:

Seriously hate it when folk are to lazy to use Google (or any other search engine of your choice).

As to the whole Blu-Ray thing... well if prices start getting down to this kind of level then we're getting somewhere but really until its pretty much like for like with DVD its not going to get anywhere. i.e. latest release Rambo on Play, £12.99 for DVD, £17.99 for blu-ray. Most folk simply aren't prepared to pay nearly a third more for most films.

I'll stick to my £3.99 HD-DVDs for the time being

Definatly not 19.99 at Stockton Tesco Extra, still shows (and scans) at 36.xx.

are you sure its not earth bluray ?
