Great price.. surely the cheapest it's been? Next best is £14.85 from Zavvi.

"As befits the BBC's reputation for producing some of the world's best nature documentaries, Planet Earth is an epic travelogue, focussing on different ecologies and the unique animals that inhabit them. Once again, Sir David Attenborough provides the narration, as the cameras fly across the surface of the earth, zooming in to give us a bug's eye view one minute, zooming out to give us an eagle's perspective the next. The BBC's cameramen filmed more than 200 locations, resulting in some truly spectacular footage, much of which has never before been seen--such as the rare sight of an endangered snow leopard hunting in the Himalayas, or great white sharks leaping from the water as they hunt. The creators of Planet Earth endured some of the world's most hostile environments, from the deepest ocean depths to an Antarctic blizzard to a fetid, cockroach- and bat-infested cave, just to grab a few moments of film; it's worth watching the "Making of" shorts that accompany each episode, in order to see just what lengths they had to go to. The three extra episodes here--Planet Earth: The Future--provide a sobering finale, as Sir David practically pleads with viewers to cherish the animals that we share this planet with, before it's too late. --Ted Kord"

Indeed, I've heard there are two different versions, worth looking into before leaping at a decision of course.

Yeah me - I was initially plumping for the Spec Ed, but heard the colours were mucked up big time.
Don't know if this has been rectified..?

main problem is the white's are very crushed, and this matters alot especially on the snowy parts, also other colours are wrong, do a google, just stick with this edition imo.

I'm sure they've fixed it, but there's still a few of them from that batch floating about. They'll give you a free replacement if you're lucky enough to get a set with the problems.

The fault has been rectified. As a poster above said there may still be a few dodgy sets floating around. However, 2Entertain have acknowledged the problem and will replace the discs free of charge, and most people were getting a free DVD of another Attenborough series too. Its really no big deal, more can be read here: Blu-Ray Forum

Cheapest for the Special Edition is currently £17 from The hut/Zavvi. I bought recently and got one without any problems from the enw batch.

Well i got to deffo disagree with you, the faults were a big deal, at least there sort the problem if you have a bad set.

Yeah, I didn't mean the faults were no big deal, just that sorting the faults is no big deal. Chances now are you'll get a rectified set anyway, but if you don't then 2Entertain will replace. They give you a Freepost address to send the discs to, and send you the new ones back quickly. IMHO its not a reason to avoid the SE set.

I don't, as I just watch the endless repeats on the Attenborough Channel on Sky (channel 532) :)

it isn't 1080p though according to Amazon (same price).

Those with virgin media XL package can watch it free on demand also. Was gonna buy it for 1080p but with cable i can get it 1080i anyway

Yeh but as with all HD content from sky or whoever, you only get low bitrate still compared to a retail disc, this and films on retail disc is on average like 3 or 4 times the bitrate that can be sent over the airways or cable at the moment, will be 5 to 10 years away before you get retail disc quality streamed, all my discs i have are quite alot better than what i have seen on sky.
