Better transfers? How so? My understanding was that Planet Earth was shot entirely tapeless with P2HDs.

Ah... just done a bit of googling and it turns out they messed up the encoding first time around, which I guess is what imdave was alluding to.

So annoying. An expensive blu-ray release and they can't get it right first time.

I have the original edition, its OK but has no extras and doesn't even include the diaries (last 10 mins of the tv airings) which were often as interesting as the main show.
I'm not saying you would be unhappy with this set, I'm saying you would be happier with the Special Edition.
