I'd have bought some of these if they didn't have play.com written on them. Gutted, it's a great price as well.

I got one before I seen this entry. I can confirm they do have the "Play.com" detailing on it, but I reckon it can easily be removed with a bit of thinners.

Its a great little memory stick, for a brilliant price. I use mine for my car stereo, its only about 55mm long with the latch cover thing over.

Here's a picture I took of it:

I think this Sandisk model is worth the extra pound:

http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/1112155/SanDisk-Cruzer-Micro-U3-USB-Flash-Drive-4GB/Product.html

It's relatively small and has a simple slide out USB connector which avoids the fuss of caps or the swing over design of the Play one. Only problem is the U3 software, if you prevent it auto-running you can download a U3 uninstaller which wipes the memory stick and jus tmakes it a standard one,.

had one of these before. casing was awful quality and broke very easily. swing lid was useless.

i'd pay a quid more for a decent cased and capped one.

What is U3?

What is U3?

It's software on the USB drive which you can use on any PC it's plugged into - the idea being not only can you carry data but also useful programs. The problem with U3 is that it's intrusive and overblown, it tries to install itself as a phantom disk/optical drive and force itself down your throat.

If you like the idea of this, I'd recommend looking at http://www.portableapps.com - it's a well put together suite of applications to run off a USB flash drive which you can configure and put on the flash drive as you want. When you plug one of these drives in it installs nothing, just pops up a small icon on the taskbar which you can click to bring up the programs on the usb stick.

Where are all the good 8GB deals?

4GB usb pens have been this price for months. I would have assumed by now these would have dropped more and the 8GB would have come closer to take their place like the 1GB did with 512Mb, 2GB did with 1GB, ...
