I must point out that the 'compared' Sandisk Cuzer Micro is at the bottom of the Sandisk range.
Sandisk dare not give specifications, unlike their others. And it has been described as 'slow beyond belief'. No specs no doubt means this is partly true for the more expensive alternative.

This Play.com item is a 'decent' but not ultra fast speed.

Good buy.

Note that Cruzer Micros are the slowest of the Sandisk range. Variable in speed thus they refuse to give specifications. No doubt because parts are sourced from different places. Some have quoted 2MB/s write, others 7 MB/s write for the Sandisk alternative..

Anyone want to explain why the Cruzer is better, apart from coming from a 'name'?

Dunno where you get your 'facts' from :whistling:

I bought the sandisk cruzer micro last week.

Takes 11 mins to write 8gb of mixed data (11mbps)

Takes 9 mins to read 8gb of mixed data (13mbps)

Hardly slow

This play one :-

Read Speed: 10.5MB/S (70X)

Write speed: 7.24MB/s (48X)
My figures are based on about 5000 files whereas the play ones are probably on a few large files (makes a massive difference in figures)

Still a 'Good buy'?.........................

I do wish people would stop spouting out useless uncofirmed google 'facts' and quote only from first hand experience!

Does anyone know if you have to use the U3 features on the San Disk or can you use it in the standard usb drive mode?

My sandisk didnt come with U3 pre-loaded. My Kingston one did but I just deleted it all and put portableapps on as far better.

I sometimes wonder who actually sits there and times these things when transfering data!

I've got both of these - amongst others - and they're both fine, and I'm a heavy user (in all senses of the word) unless of course your life depends on transfering data before the 'hitman' gets to you.....

Just wondering if there are faster drives out there with better read/write speeds?

AFAIK its the fastest for its price/size.

There are applications that automatically do this...

Sandisk themselves. Check their web site.

No stats whatsoever on this unit so speeds will vary. You own stats are at the high end of others so it is possible that the flash they are using has improved.

They are both of decent speed.
