looks quite good if only it had a dl burner id buy it

it is a dvd burner, no idea of dual layer, but who uses those anyway?

the real downside is 2.5 hour battery and vista, why not 7!
#4
think u get the win7 upgrade kit free if you read the reviews on play.com
takes couple of weeks to receive according to them

ummm lots of us im sure use dual layer burners...i probably burn around 2-6 DL discs per month.
Pity its not 1600 x 900 though. But for the price a great unit!
#6
good price, but i never see the point of a laptop with a bluray drive, that then skimps on the screen, needs 1080P surely.

It's more than likely dual layer capable. I've not come across a DVD writer in recent history that doesn't support this.

Very good price for a good general use laptop. I hope people dont knock it because of their view on Acer...
#9
great spec imo my only complaint with acer is the crap they put on windows, similar to a mobile phone operator branding a phone

Hi guys, first post on this fantastic website. Already bought some real bargains thanks to recommendations from this site

I ordered this laptop http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5082432.htm about an hour ago & was thinking of cancelling the order now I've seen this.

Can anyone with some computer savvy help me with choosing from these 2 laptops. Would be much appreciated. Both the same price & will need to cancel my Argos order pretty soon, it's being delivered tomorrow !

Thanks guys.

Very true, I bought an Acer laptop off them in June and in a couple of months from 3-4 use maximum daily it messed up so I ahd to send it to them to get fixed...that was over 10 weeks ago and I am still in dispute with them trying to get a refund :x:roll:

They where shocked I didn't want a replacement (LOL) and their customer service is REALLY bad.

Good specs...**** brand

processor is pretty bad, graphics average...

For £30 extra you can get a dell 17 inch inspiron with core i3, 3gb ddr3 and w7,,,
#17
This is a cracking laptop, the Turion processor and Nvidia card are very quick and able to process HD and 3D graphics. Not for serious gamers but certainly for middle of the road ones like myself. VOTED HOT!!!

I totally agree .. mine is nearly 3 years old now and still going strong. :whistling:

I would agree with the fact Acer are bad at build quality as my girlfriedns family has suffered this wrath of acer.

HOWEVER, i work at PC world so we obviously do alot of research into the products and an independant report came through this weekend that Asus, Acer and Toshiba have the best build quality and Reliablilty for laptops.

It was an independant survey, dont believe it myself, however they are the fiqures and seem to be a lot better than HP and dells.........

I bought the ACER 5920 when it was on hot deals a couple of years back and it's still going strong. Spec is great for average use. voted hot
#24
iv had a Acer 6920 similar to this for 18 months, no problems at all, top machine. Great BR playback via HDMI.

I wiped the HD and installed my own version of windows tho Acer does ship with a lot of duff software.

HOT DEAL IMO
#25
So how do u get W7 with this?
#26
Why expired? - still able to order.

True, but the 9300 is comparable to the integrated graphics available on the new core i family of processors.
#28
not expired....
and Acer is good brand I have had one since the summer when my Vaio packed it up (after a new mother board 8 months earlier) touch wood this is goin good and better than the vaio was!

My acer is really similar to this, just with the 512mb dedicated graphics :)

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Graphics-Media-Accelerator-4500MHD-GMA-X4500MHD.9883.0.html

Would seem there is a significant jump from the 4500MHD on the iCores to the 9300.

I totally disagree, build quality on current Acer laptops is very good.

I think this DELL latpop is a better deal with its new Intel i3 m 330 chipset (twice the processing power of the RM-75 cpu) and 1600x900 17" display is well priced:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/61941...tel-core-i3-2-
Its not got bluray and the gfx card isnt up to gaming, but with 6% cashback, the price is down to under £410 delivered!

That hotukdeals link don't work.

Just remember that with Play.com you're stuffed if anything goes wrong outside 30 days. It's not covered by UK consumer protection laws.

It's a great site, but for anything really expensive (like a £400 laptop) I feel that this is too risky.
#35
still get the 12 month acer collect and return warranty, so hot from me, ordered, rep and heat added!

Bought one of these this morning after Amazon cancelled another deal.

How have people gotten on with their machines?

Does it have Bluetooth? There seems to be at least 5 sub models in this range

The exact model seems to be: LX.ARG0X.010
http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/1674/photo1fp.th.jpg

Who was the Play.com courier and did it come 24hrs from a UK hub?

Acer's FTP driver site for those interested: ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_7530/

Thanks :)

If you want to spend the £500 for something similar then go for www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B002ZNDXY0 It's much newer, got Windows 7 and is 64bit.

All depends what you want/need/fancy. The £400 Play Acer has a bigger screen but if you want that and have £400 then that's the way to go. Very crowded market so work out exactly what you'd like = budget.

I like Acer cos they cram a lot in for the cash but if you ain't wanting extras (like Bluray -it's still a luxury in laptops I'd say) you should look at other brands and take a looksee at Argos online as they've had a couple of nice Samsungs lately. Sainsubury's instore have had a really nice Compaq.

Shop around and take your time http://www.hotukdeals.com/computers/all/hot
