Please remember this is NOT a USB hard drive, its so much more. It plugs into your router.

Looking for an external USB drive at 1TB; THEN WAIT!

Read up on this unit first. For around £30 more you can get this unit that sits on your network and works in the same way, plus remote access, automatic backups of your computer(s) data in the house. Allows 3 remote user accounts.

Looks like Netgear are pushing this unit at a low price now, as I have just found it at other suppliers for a similar price. A collegue recently bought the 500MB unit for over £150!

Pay the £15 per year (optional) upgrades to unlimited remote accounts, and will allow automatic backups of computers data not on your own network (kids at university as a good example)

Even without the £15 per year, remote users can drop files on the STORA for safe keeping.

Add a second hard drive (very easy to do) and the unit will copy your data onto the second drive as a backup incase first one fails.

Absolute steal at this price.

Heres a link to the product page at Netgear.

Been looking at one of these for a while. I was looking at dabs myself yesterday until I saw this.

Other good combinations @ dabs

No hard drive version 72.99 then you can claim a FREE 500GB drive back from Netgear. (Good option if you have a spare drive or two).
With 500GB hard drive 79.99 (don't have to wait for drive coming then post offer to Netgear and wait for drive to arrive) worth extra 7 pounds.

I decided to go for play 1TB already installed version and then purchase a separate 1TB second drive these are around 50 pounds now.

ps Timbo_UK was not trying to be smart, just trying to help someone in these hard times.

Does that HAVE to mirror backup or can I put 2 x 1TB drives in this and use both totalling 2TB?

The review below says

" It has two drive bays and the second will accept another 1TB hard drive, which once installed will automatically be configured to mirror the first."

Good price for the model. Can I ask if there is a Torrent client available for this NAS?

I'm interested in buying a NAS with DLNA and Torrent support.

macst808 - No worries (_;)

torybarsteward - Not that I am aware of; Netgear do a better range called the ReadyNAS, a lot more money though. Link below as an example:

To be honest for it to be a good unit you'd need to be able to remove that mirroring, but as a 1gb Stora it's a good unit. Still voted hot :)

Easily connects to my ps3. You can't connect to it via usb tho which is a pain

Great price. The 500gb is available from ebuyer for £69.99 too http://www.ebuyer.com/product/190925!

I think I read that the latest firmware makes the mirroring optional.

I'm tempted.

Deffinitley tempted by this nice find.
#12
Just another thought, does anyone know how noisy this is?
#13
Never mind found this

"Duo is pretty loud when under load for a while (so the disks get hot).
4 bay units (NV+ and NVX) are a fair bit louder.
Stora is almost silent providing you can keep the fluff at bay and out of the fan!
I sometimes kip in my study. The NVX gets switched off, the Stora gets left on. Enough said."

Very tempted by this also.

Very good deal. Not that long ago similar (or the same one) was for 149.99 without drive (you could get HDD for free from NETGEAR but only 500 GB).
Hot, good deal.

Looks like there is, have a look around http://hardwarehackersunite.com/forum?id=4

The hacking community seems to be smaller around this nas though, so if your looking at putting a load of other mods on there are better ones around.

Does anyone know if this can stream video to PS3s? IE- Can it be used as a media server?

Although I have the Duo and not the Stora, as it's DLNA certified, yes it can be used as a media server on a PS3 and an XBOX 360.

Good piece of kit, worth having, and if on your home network and have an Ipod Touch/Iphone, you can stream to them to but you need something like ML Player Lite, well worth a punt in my view!

Does anyone know if this can be used as an email server? (sorry if I'm totally missing the point)

Plan would be for us to have this NAS drive on 24/7 to download mail so that it can be accessed equally by all PCs and laptops in the house, act as a print server for our USB printer, backup PCs and laptops whenever they're switched on and to store and stream all media to our Philips streamium. Is this feasible?

Simple answer (for this anyway) no

Gone up to £130 now. Not bad for the price but there's plenty to chose from for £130.

Still 99.99 at Amazon...
