Play TV for PS3 £26.16 delivered @ Amazon!!!

Amazon price dropped to match the tesco price. Great for those without a store nearby as it avoids the hideous tesco £5 delivery charge!

Thanks to evapor8 who pointed this out in the tesco thread.

Good product if you have a good Freeview signal. Handy to be able to record TV whilst playing a game or watching a movie etc.

Nice product and price, shame theirs not enough worth watching on the TV to warrant buying it.

Ooooohhhhhhhhhhh, so want one of these, just not sure about idea of leaving ps3 on all time? Or does it still do the biz in standby mode????? Anyone?
#4
You don't have to leave the ps3 on you can leave it on standby and it'll turn on for recordings. Haven't got one yet but I read that this feature was added in a software update.

just bought the ps3 offer, now this hmmm! can you watch hd free view channels?

The recording can be set and then the PS3 can be left in standby. It will power on, record, then power off. Handy for early morning F1 Grand Prixs. ;)

You can record in the background of games playing or infact most stuff you do on the PS3. Can record one channel whilst watching another and pause live TV.

I wouldn't use it just to watch Freeview as the PS3's power consumption is about 200% that of a Freeview box anyway.

Just don't update to the latest software or you risk the PlayTV application crashing along with all your recorded programs.

Voted cold, until they fix the bug this thing is ****.

No just SD channels and only the Free-To-Air's. UK uses different encoders to the rest of Europe for HD otherwise it would be HD compatible.

I have heard of that issue but everything was fine for me. I think it was more an issue for people that bought the unlock for the new features. The update adds them but you have to pay to use them and so I think that was where the issue lies.

All the updates have been free. The latest one is an *optional* upgrade that gives some extra features for those who want them.

PlayTV is amazing, by far the best picture quality for SD channels. User Interface, channel changing and channel guide all look great and works really fast and smooth.

Only downside is no Freeview HD.

I do not have a roof aerial at my home but have sky tv in the living room .... If i get rid of sky in future can i use the sky dish to get tv through this???
#12

How is it a crap product? It was one update that they charged for, all others have been free. Being honest the price of the update wasn't that much anyway considering the amount of use the unit gets.
#14
Yes the new update make's the ps3 come on in the middle of the night for no reason. I always turn it off from the plug now. But its still a great bit of kit to have and you can get all the recordings onto a usb drive or stick and .avi them on your pc.

Do ya get a remote with it or all done through the controller? And does switching off the ps3 at the mains affect it's memory for planned recordings?
#16
I've a phat ps3. Will this eat up electricity watching telly through it every day like its really designed for?

No remote, I bought a Blu-ray one and use that...and I can't answer your second question cos I never switch the PS3 off at the mains.

Depends which generation it is but the old ones range from 180W (1st Gen) to 110W(3rd Gen). The newest generation use about 70W so it's not too bad on them but the older ones are power hungry.

No. You'd need a freesat box for that.

Mine's an 80GB one bought just before the original 120GB slims came out (bought it for Other OS lol)
Is that 3rd gen?

I'm guessing so if:
60GB - 1st gen
40GB - 2nd gen
80/160GB - 3rd gen

Then came the slims
#22
Awesome, good selling everyone, just ordered mine! Thanks for the help

I was pleased when I saw this price because I thought the postage charge for tesco was ridiculous.

Not quite (the processor was revised a few times and made smaller) but if it's an 80gb then it's either 2nd or 3rd gen and iirc the 2nd gen 80gb was released only in the US so it must be 3rd gen.

Ok, im going to risk being a complete fool... my son has a tv in his room and ps3, tried to connect tv to the main aerial but am only picking up 2 channels and they are fuzzy. With the Play tv, do you still need to have to be able to have a decent enough signal from the aerial to be able to pick up the channels? Have sky downstairs and would really like to be able to NOT pay for sky multi room!!

It does require a good signal yes.

If you're considering multiroom another option would be to just buy him an xbox as you can watch sky through that when you put your login details in. Multiroom costs £10 a month so £120 for a year. I'm pretty sure you can get an xbox for that amount. I'm sure someone with an xbox could shed a little more light on this workaround.

I presume this wouldn't be of much use for those with Sky+?

Can you export recorded tv shows/films to a PC or external hard drive or whatever using Sky+?
I think you can do that with this by using a USB stick. Correct me if I'm wrong

Think you have to copy the program onto DVD, as opposed to USB

You can transfer them to external USB or external hard drive with no pesky DRM!

How do you do that please?!
banned#32
You can transfer anything you have recorded.

When the program has been recorded, go to it in your recording Library, press X and select "Move to Home Menu"

This will move it to the Video section in the XMB.

Plug in a Hard Drive or USB Stick and navigate to the file in the XMB, press Triangle and select copy.

Voila!

Yet annoyingly the PlayTV format doesn't work on the PSP! Silly move on Sonys part there.

It would take too much battery power to decode and downscale such high quality MP4 files. And also the filesizes would be too big.

Should this be expired? On the right hand side you can still click for the original price direct from Amazon but it says "usually dispatched within 1-3 weeks".

If you can find a Gamestation with stock still it should scan at £19.99 still! Same price still on their website but sold out a while ago

Ditto for GAME of course as the same group....
