Excellent product, I think this is a bargain price!

- Two TV Tuners: Watch one programme while recording another.
- Electronic Programme Guide: A seven-day navigation interface that makes it easy to programme and watch PlayTV. It's lightning fast and simple to use with either PS3's Sixaxis controller or the Blu-ray Remote Control.
- Watch, pause and rewind live TV: TV programmes now operate at the viewers' convenience. Just hit the pause button to take a break without missing a thing - and rewind any bits to watch over and over again.
- Portable viewing with PSP: Seamless PSP connectivity allows you to set recordings remotely and to watch live TV streamed on your PSP wherever you are via a Wi-Fi connection (using Remote Play feature).

Yes it does have 2 freeview TV tuners, you can watch a channel whilst recording another channel.

csf
play tv 2 is coming out soon

I think Play TV 2 is just a software update, part of it is free, the other part of the software update you have to purchase via Playstation Store.

Pretty sure, that's what your talking about, in which case I don't think it affects this deal. The update is optional, I personally won't buy it.
If I'm wrong fair enough, but please provide a link to where you're getting your info from!

The new PlayTV is not a software update, but new hardware.

I had one of these when I had a PS3 and they were excellent, great reception, lovely UI. Not seen a better TV Tuner on PC, Mac or other systems

I remember reading about it months ago.
The new PlayTV will have HD freeview which the current model can not do with a software update.

The social network features are available in the new software update. As for HD, a few places mention this new hardware, but nowhere has any actually useful information, just speculation. I very much doubt it will make an appearance this year (25 days left!) or even the first 3 quarters of next year.
This deal is still a bargain in my opinion!
#15
Use mine all the time. Great bit of kit.
#16
PlayTV 2 will have freeview HD and maybe, MAYBE, GoogleTV (Sony are pushing it in their new TV sets!).
#17
Yeah there has been no official announcement of a new revision of hardware, in fact a Sony rep even commented in the firmware update thread that there was no plans for a new box. But that might just be that they don't know anything. I will be buying it though as soon as it does emerge. The new update I feel was well worth it, was just over £4 for PSN+ members and adds the series link and also quite a fun chat ability. Good when watching the football or X Factor.

Thanks for clearing that up! Yeah actually I probably will buy the update for the series link function, will come in pretty useful.

Not sure of the detail but Amazon seem to think something is happening, they don't know what or when by the site, but have a price for the PlayTV2!

PlayTV 2 was the software upgrade (latest SW Version is 2.01). The "new" hardware refered to in the product-reviews was new to some regions since PlayTV was not officially supported there. It was available towards the end of this year. HD is already supported for those countries using DVB-T for HD distribution.

T2 hardware seems unlikely in the medium term due to the limited territories rolling it out. Haven't any *official* evidence it is coming either.

I think PlayTV is great - use it all the time, and paid more than this for it. Not paying for the update though ...
#24
warning, this is hot BUT you have to connect it to a USB port on your PS3 - if you have a recent-ish to new PS3 this means you will have to have a permanent install on the front USB port as there are no rear ones in the later models so it's going to look naff on your tv unit... otherwise superb value for PS3 owners
#25
I'll definitely be waiting for the HD version, it must be coming out. If Sony release a 3D update for their console they aren't going to leave Play TV in standard definition.
#26
I think they will probably be equipping PS4 to deal with that upgrade?
#27
Does the vanilla version tell others on my friends list exactly what I'm watching...or do I have to buy the update for this stalkerish privelige....
#28
excellent product. I imagine playTV2 with freeviewHD must be getting closer... but then I've expected it for months!!
#29
Has this been around for £20 in the past?

No PS3 model has ever had USB ports on the rear, only the front.

The launch 60GB models had 4 on the front and all subsequent models have 2 but you can use USB hubs if you need more sockets.

RTE in Ireland are doing HD tests which can be viewed on PlayTV. I know it's different standard to what the UK HD is going to be but it's still sharp.
I've uploaded a 4min clip if anyone wants to see, the thing is it's bloody beefy! 225MB for 4mins! but all PlayTV recordings are ridiculously massive.

I haven't touched the video hence why it will look poo on your PC unless you futter about with the de-interlacing settings on VLC or something, best viewed using a PS3.

Yes.

Incredible Product. I use this with my Playstation 3 every time i watch TV. I set recordings for programmes alot of the time while im playing Black ops or watching another Programme.

With the new software update it really brings itself out (£6.29). With the Disk you also get a nice sticker to go with your Blu-Ray DVD remote.

Just need to find a bargain good price for the Blu-ray remote then I'm sorted!

I think it's worth it.

Series link is a great addition but should have been included for free.

The chat feature however is actually a lot of fun, watching a TV show and commenting on it as you go. In the past few weeks I've enjoyed chatting with others while watching I'm a Celeb, Strictly, Harry Hil and Come Dine With Me.

This price at Tesco as well, can pick up from store free in 2 days time.

Shall I edit the deal to include a link to this?
I'd rather buy from Amazon, and get it shipped for free. But I'm lazy!

I'd rather wait for PlayTV 2. This doesn't really seem like a hot deal in comparison to what Currys has sold it for previously but it's a decent deal
