Well I can't really afford a new system, so I thought I'd look for the best 'old school' AGP card.
Alright, it won't run Crysis and the like, but it's Pixel Shader 3.0 and has 512MB memory, so it'll at least run the newer games (albeit on low settings!).
Would be fine for things like Left 4 Dead, etc :]

I expect this'll be voted cold because it's not good enough for the trolls quad core PC's. Oh well..

I'm not knocking the price (which is excellent) but can't you get x1950 AGP cards too if you're after the 'best'? I think they're a fair bit more expensive though (and I don't know what the performance benefits are).

I do not vote but IMO, investing any money in AGP is just pointless.

For £50 you can buy new, faster mobo + cpu with integrated graphic not much slower than that one.

whilst it's advisable to go PCI-E, integrated graphics no matter what model currently are going to do pretty poorly against this card

x1650 with DDR2 will not let you play too.

I did exaggerrate a little :), but ...
mobo - £35 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/151054
cpu - from £20 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/149017 , much better for £33 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/136868

ok for general user but no good for proper gaming this card is past its day :)

can you sell your current system ?

for £150 delivered , you can get Vostro MT from Dell Outlet (I hate them but they are bloody cheap). It has integrated graphic but you will get much newer base with dual core cpu. Also future upgrade would be much cheaper.

Pentium Dual Core E2200 (2x2000mhz).Do not worry about the Pentium Dual Core, is only slightly slower than Core 2 Duo (unnoticeable difference)
2GB ram
160GB HDD
DVDRW
Keyboard+optical mouse
+ Vista basic

be better off buying an xbox 360 for gaming unless you can afford the high price of pc gaming!!!!!
#8
difficult situation many times have I thought about just buying a console as you used to do in the good
old days for gaming, but having been a pc gamer for 15+ years I seem to stick with it , for £35 just try it will proberly give you a better frame rate but my personal experiance with ATI gear has always been the unstable drivers, I have always stuck with nvidia. any way if it dont work sell it on ebay!!!

6600gt is not much slower than x1650pro with DDR2.I do not think you would notice any difference and in some games the ATI can be even slower.

You may sell your old cpu quite well . The 3200+ on Socket A (Barton) can go expensive - you should get for it on feebay around £40-50 -just sell it separately and asap.

true but a pc with no cpu is not much good, the mobo will be worthless, ram may be worth a few quid with it being an older type but not that much, he will have to replace all the the afore mentioned and it will end up costing over £150 quid + ,not the objective he is trying to achieve

I could probably take it apart and sell the parts on ebay

Athlon 3200+
Gigabyte GA-7N400 PRO 2 MB
1GB Ram
6600GT with a zalman cooler

My current GPU handles Left 4 Dead, but it gets a little messy when a ton of enemies come on screen. I just figured this would cope better with the extra 384Mb memory.
I'm not really bothered with the big new titles as I have a 360 and good PC games are few and far between (and usually full of DRM ****).
That's why a figured a small graphics upgrade would be sufficient for me (and others) :)

eBay item 200284086936, watch it, see how much it goes for, will give you a rough guide

Yeah but IMO selling the bundle as a whole is a mistake. The lot may go for the same price as the Barton alone.

The CPU is auctioned so expensive not because of incredibly high speed, but due to a fact of being the fastest processor on socket A .Many people might want to upgrade their older bases without much changes, thus bid relatively high.If you include the memory and mobo into the selling bundle, you will actually loose their interest ...

Cold I'm afraid, I've just replaced a Athlon 2700+, 1GB DDR & X1650 pro system that was very slow in those games that it would run (like NWN2 and Gothic 3). TF2 was only just playable at absolute minimum settings, I didn't try L4D on it, but I wouldn't have expected very good results.

If £100 for a X1950 or £80 for a 3850 is too much then you could look at the 3650 which can be had for £50.

I didn't realise old AGP graphics cards were still so valuable. Makes me think I should really get around to putting my Asus 6800 GT up in FS/Trade. £35 delivered for it should be reasonable enough, I reckons.
#15
Would this be faster than my old slightly overclocked TI4200 ?

Cold....,

AGP, enough said.

6100 gfx is alot slower than this card

A quick google threw up this if you definitley want to stay AGP, may play some of the current games depending on how much of a bottleneck your other hardware is.

not bad for a new card for that price. but if people are looking to get the last bit of juice out fo an ageing AGp system, id recomend ebay for an AGP card. plenty going at cheap prices.

i know its not a deal, but its just a little advice.

The CPU was the bottleneck there mate. I run TF2 just fine and my graphics card is worse spec'd. It's laggy during the first 10 seconds and then it's fine :)

I wouldn't have thought it'd have made that much difference, 5-10fps maybe.

Anyone here who bought one of these last year looking to sell? lol
