A Google search doesn't find a retailer called Sonic Electrical, only Sonic Direct where the Play 5 is £429 - eg full price.

We had a big extension in our house and they sorted out the issues we had afterwards very quickly and in a friendly manner. My oldest Sonos S5 speaker from early 2010 developed a fault which they identified and they replaced it without any issues for a Play 5 (1st Gen) at no charge.
Can't fault them, we have their products all over our house and I recommend them to everyone.
Thanks for the phone number, and had a longish call to sort it out for me. It wasn't something I would have known to do as the guy at sonos did. But anyways it is now working as it should do.

Yes I know that, but have just tried it again, time wired to my network, and it did actually play music, but as soon as I disconnected the lan cable , the play1 just stopped.
I take it that it works for you by the app on your phone or tablet, but where is the music you play, on your phone etc. The music I want to play is streamed from my nas box down to kodi, and played from there.
The pair of cheapo wireless speakers Iv'e had for about a year work fine anywhere in or out of the house, which what I want. But the sonos seems that it has be connected to a lan socket as well as mains, which defeats the object of flexibilty.
