Yes, yes, yes the PS2 is last century's news but before you dive in for the cold button and freeze this baby to death, Play's price of £69.99 (or indeed £64.99 if you can use one of the £5 off £50 vouchers) is the cheapest I've been able to find for the old black beauty. Next cheapest appears to be Amazon which is £10 (or indeed £15) more expensive. Sadly no Quidco on consoles from Play.

First time posting a deal so forgive any mistakes.

Congratz where at?
#3
At least he's not trying to get shot of a Gamecube :)

Yeah well done on winning the PS3.

Southend-on-Sea Christmas light switch on. They had an Elvis dress up competition. He's 8 and will enter any fancy dress competition advertised. 1st prize was the ps3, 2nd an ipod. It's definately the best prize he's won so far. Normally he only wins t-shirts, sweets, dvds etc We have some great troffeys from the carnivals though. My baby's already has won 2 1st places and he's 10 months :) Does that make me one of those dodgy mothers?!

You'll be regretting it once he's become one of those Elvis tribute singers, spending the majority of his life travelling up and down the country entertaining the elderly and annoying everybody else.

Tell you what, buy him the most violent and nasty game you can and instead of becoming an Elvis tribute, he'll be killing them.
#6
Not sing star then? Or that one with the guitar? :)

He's due to take his brown belt in karate soon, he trains with wooden swords and rubber knives, he finds gore amusing!

Not sure about this but I've heard the latest PS3s won't play some/all PS2 games so if he sold his PS2 all his games might have to go with it!

Hopefully someone else will be able to clear up the backwards compatibility issue...

Depends on which PS3 he has. 60Gb is ok but new 40GB is the problem:thumbsup:
#9

#10
play.com needs to be included in the title...
#11

Admittedly that was a better deal at about £50 - but that has long vanished into the ether.

Actually, when I was looking around for a friend, I was surprised at how much they were still going for new and a couple of weeks ago there was only Amazon doing any sort of deal on the price and that was only £10 off.
#17
The PS2 is still a good console, as is the original Xbox.
#18
you can pick one up with games on ebay for next to nothing - I would be reluctant to buy new now.
#19
I'm surprised that a PS2 still costs this much. I wouldn't spend more than £50 on a previous gen console. I vote buy second hand if you are desperate for a PS2.

I would rather pay £65 for a brand new console than £50 for one that is years old with no warranty.

£15 Extra with a year warranty and brand new. how can somebody say its not GOOD
#22
I have 5 kids, and don't see anything wrong with buying second generation 'new' consoles! My 8 year old had an Xbox for £50 last year and we were able to buy him loads of games! He was really happy.
We have a Playstation 2 that is well dodgy, about 4 years old and very selective about which games it will play. We have loads of games and a rubbish console. I have just ordered this deal for my daughter, there is no way I could afford a PS3, and for younger kids, it is ridiculous. Given the problems our PS2 has, why on earth buy second hand with no warranty?
Thankyou for the deal, there are a huge amount of games for kids to play on, and if we bought the latest generation they would have no games as we couldn't afford them!
#23
Ahhh im tempted but not that much now think i will hold out for the new one

This is the problem with Next Gen; classic, quality consoles like this get relegated to some sort of poor cousin status. I have a Wii, played a lot on an Xbox 360 and have a friend with a PS3, but at this price you can get into some great classic games such as God of War, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Okami etc. etc. and they will all be going cheap now too.
Next gen graphics are all well and good but the quality of game has to be there. Compare the Final Fantasy movies to Pixar movies. Which have the more 'advanced' graphics and which are the most fun??

Well if your talking about advent children which although graphically great was boring as i didnt play the games - you cant beat pixar films

But if your talking about films like spirites within (which god knows why its called final fantasy) is an amazing film on both fun and graphics

Id choose gamepaly over graphics

I really only want to rebuy the ps2 for

Shadow of the collosus
Firefighter fd18
Sos final escape
okami
athens 2004
matrix path of neo
enter the matrix....what i liked it

Games i havent played and games i loved
#26
With my PS2 on the way out and the PS3's that play PS1/PS2 games going the same way, this is quite tempting. I think I'll wait for it to drop to nearer £50 before getting a replacement.

I worked in an indie game shop part time through uni and this game has got to be in the top 5 of most returned list. Right to the makers of teh game, I'm sure they will be suprised to hear that somebody actually liked it, you might get free stuff!!

PS2's are fantastic for value I have a PS3 and a 360 and still have my 6 year old PS2 (the ps3 emulation of a fair few ps2 games is awful). Best £200 ever spent was that console, no problems either.

But the second hand one will be less than £50! I meant I wouldn't pay more than £50 new.

they are so reliable I doubt if you would need a warranty

Mine wasn't reliable! And I'd rather have a gurantee than someone else's cast off. Especially when I know some people who put their utter worn out rubbish on Ebay.

One point. Sony are about to bring out a newer version of the PS2 - this will incorporate the power supply inside the PS2 unit as opposed to this slimline one where the power supply is external like you have with a laptop.

I am sure that when the newer version of PS2 comes out then the price will drop further. I recommend getting a PS2 if for nothing else that PS3 wont be backcompatible by the time it becomes affordable to buy.
#33
Does anyone wknows when they will get the new PS2 out. Apparently there should be a new version of it.
#34
This is showing up on the play site as £69.99, but add to your cart and it says £89.99

anyone know what's wrong with that?
#35
Price is now showing £89.99 on the website. Well that was short lived - I hope my friend I was looking for it for got an order in :(

Slap on the expired! :santa:

It has been confirmed for about 6 weeks that it comes next year in March/April in Japan, we need it confirming for the UK/Europe and then the usual 3/4 month wait period. So we'll be looking at May next year most probably.

£49 , this is the price it should be , NOT £69.99 & definitely NOT £89.99 .
#38
In fact if anyone wants one then they can have mine for £55 plus delivery . It was opened once , tried once , put back in its box where it has been for the last 4 months or so . For £55 you would get a remote control & 2 Sony official controllers in black , all mint condition of course .

SOLD
#39
Picked up mine about 5-6 months ago when Asda put an ad in the national press they were selling them for one day only for £50! At that price couldn't refuse. They also had original xboxes with about 3 games for that price too! Wish I'd have got one of them also now.
