Apologies in advance if this doesn't work, as I havn't tried it myself yet, but the theory seems good.

HMV are selling the PS3 for £424.99.
If you are a student and a Barclays customer you can buy Waterstones vouchers at a 15% discount using your connect card or barclaycard, these vouchers are also redeemable at HMV. So £425 of Waterstones gift vouchers should only cost you £361.25!

I think this only works for students - but they'll do anything for a pint, get one to buy the vouchers for you.

Apparently you can get it even cheaper:

If you can get 10% off instore at HMV with an NUS card (if it can be used on consoles) or by opening a storecard account, that will bring the initial HMV price down to £382.50 - Meaning it will only cost £325.13 for the Waterstone gift vouchers!

Thanks to jayhab and superthomo for the info on the extra discount.
- bod emrys

I think you should change that last line to 'possible extra discount'
- jayhab

Edit - "simply call free on 0800 028 6239, provide us with your Student Barclaycard details, the amount of vouchers you wish to order (in multiples of £10) and we will debit your account with 15% off!"
-Thanks to Firespire for that

yup, waterstones are affiliated with HMV and vouchers are applicable for both - incedently though, HMV voucher cards may not be redeemable at waterstones as their computers system (last time I checked) is not up to date, although they will take HMV paper vouchers.

LOL... but doesnt sound right bod emrys

hmm, not as much interest as I thought, guess it's still pretty pricey. Think I might go for this though as it brings it almost inline with the price of the 360 elite that I was going to wait for

It does work. You're not getting a student discount at HMV, your using gift vouchers already bought with 15% discount.

I got student discount on my Wii hardware at HMV........

I think you may have the wrong end of the stick!

The OP states to buy Waterstones vouchers at a discount, then use the vouchers in HMV.

The only problem you might face is if Waterstones don't give a student discount when buying vouchers - some stores that participate in student discounts etc will only give the discount when buying actual goods - not on vouchers that can be used to buy goods and apply another discount!!:whistling:

Lol - beaten to it!!!

Waterstones have a deal with Barclays - If you are a student and buy gift vouchers with your Barclaycard or barclay connect card, you will get 15% off. - It is specifically for vouchers.

it's a top deal then!- so I wonder if when buying from HMV - students could acquire an NUS discount again??

can't you get 10% off by opening an hmv storecard too ?
#15
Yes. You can use your student card to get 10% off instore, but on the website it doesnt allow you.
#16
Ok, so if you can get 10% off instore at HMV with an NUS card (if it can be used on consoles) or by opening a storecard account, that will bring the initial HMV price down to £382.50 - Meaning it will only cost £325.13 for the Waterstone gift vouchers!

Have added that to original post.
#18
I thought you had to order the Waterstone vouchers in question over the phone only from Barclays themselves?

Or this is only way I was told you can get them:thinking:
#19
If that is the case, do you know the number to call?

I did but was about 3 years ago I used to order them.

But it was definitely Barclays who despatched the vouchers in the post not Waterstones/Hmv.
#21
Need to find out if they are also accepted in HMV then.

I've not been a student for a while so it could all have changed but when I had a Student Barclaycard this is what they sent me -

simply call free on 0800 028 6239, provide us with your Student Barclaycard details, the amount of vouchers you wish to order (in multiples of £10) and we will debit your account with 15% off!

HMV don't give you Student Discount on hardware.

The HMV Student Card offer excludes purchases of electronic gift cards, gift vouchers, e-gift vouchers, event tickets, games bundles, games hardware (all formats), all other non-games electronic hardware (e.g. digital music players), digital downloads (except from pre-paid digital subscription cards bought in-store) and excludes postage and packing and gift wrapping where applicable.

Terms and conditions near bottom of page.

Still a good deal tho if you get the 15% off the vouchers and can use them in HMV.

I dont know about the 15% off the vouchers but you CAN get 10% off hardware with the hmv student card. I did it online, I have the card affiliated with my online account, and received 10% off my ps3 bundle order, however I dont think it works on just the console, so try a few different packages and you should be able to get the 10% off, online
#34
Can you get the student cards in store at HMV? Because I only have an NUS symbol on my uni card, not an NUS number?

Yup youll need to get their own card (or buy an NUSextra card). Just ask at counter.

Good work spotting this, you might want to do another post with how cheap it means you can get a 360 - as I'm sure a fair few peopel woudl be interested in that too!

Nice one,
Ant

I've had my order for Games consoles being rejected by HMV online with my NUS Card! A customer service member just emailed me on those ocasions to let me know it can only continue the order if i accept it at the full price.
So beaware!
