has the 60GB been discontinued or something?
#2
Yes. no more are being made and the 60gb is back compatable (plays PS2 games) the new 40gb is not.
#3
yh 60gb is discontinued now thats why many shops are starting to raise prices.

Just picked up two PS3 60GB consoles + 2 free games per console from Argos for £310 each using their current £10 voucher for £100 spend offer. Buy 6 £100 vouchers on individual transactions and get 6 £10 vouchers. Then buy the PS3s on separate transactions pay the difference and get 2 more £10 vouchers. The assistant was "very" patient.

A small games shop chain has a few at £309.99 for the console only 60gb and there are games bundles too.

http://www.ninjagames.co.uk (not advertised on their website)

Stores are at brighouse, Wakefield and Castleford.

if you got the vouchers your lucky as they have stopped giving the extra voucher when buying vouchers because they have changed their t&c`s now.

Its gone now :-( keep searching, they are still available!

these are going for 400 on ebay alone will be very hard to find one.

Like i said it's a great deal no where has them... at least if you buy them from choices if there is a problem you can take them back, might be a little harder if purchased from an individual off ebay.

Does anyone here see the point of them going for that much? I mean, it doesnt cost much to get a PS2 now right? I mean, you can get the 40 gig PS3 with games for £300 or less, then a PS2 for what, £80....

Im not seeing the value.

Here here... I also bet a lot of people who are chasing after the 60GB version won't use them for PS2 games all that much (if at all)...

I also bet that Sony (or the gaming community) will mysteriously release PS2 software emulation on the 40GB version as well... From what I understand the 60GB European version only contains software emulation, so the 40GB should be equally capable of running the same emulation. Shifting lots of stock due to panic buying 60GB versions, very clever of Sony!

Rather than pay silly prices on ebay people you can get them from CEX for £350 boxed.

They are used but you get 12 months warranty from them and they seem to have them available with free delivery online in case you don't have a store near you

Im not a PS3 fan so dont know if this is a good price, but it might assist anyone who is chasing one?

The 60GB does not have the emotion engine chip however it does have the graphics transisters out of the PS2 so only the processor behavior has to be emulated. The 40GB version has neither the processor or the graphics transisters making it more difficult to emulator. It would still be possible to emulate the entire machine because a decent PC can manage it but I can't see Sony pumping loads of money into emulation.
