Rare to find these at a decent price
Missing the games but still £349.99 for the hard to find 60gb model
Just to confirm the 60gb model is has lots of extras over the 40gb. Mainly allows you to play your back catalogue of PS2 games.

Console features:
60GB HDD
4 USB Ports
Gloss finish
MemoryStick/SD/CompactFlash Card Slots
Backward compatible with many PS2 games

PS3 is the most advanced computer system that serves as a platform to enjoy next generation computer entertainment contents in the home, realised through the combination of Cell and RSX processors.

Having Giga-bit Ethernet and a pre-installed hard disk drive (HDD) as standard in PS3, users will be able to download a variety of contents as well as access on-line games and services over the network. Equipped with basic input/output ports, PS3 supports a broad range of displays from conventional NTSC/PAL standard TVs to the latest full HD (1080i/1080p) flat panel displays, offering the joy of the most advanced computer entertainment contents to homes around the world. For use in living rooms, maximum heat and noise reduction has been achieved with a noise level equivalent to that of the current slim-line PlayStation 2.

With the overwhelming computational power of the Cell processor, PS3 is capable of playing back content from Blu-ray (BD) disc at a bit rate of multiplex 48Mbps with ease, the maximum bit rate defined in BD standards.

40GB are reportedly more quieter and efficiently than the 60GB ones:

http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/833/833700p1.html

"US, November 8, 2007 - It seems that everywhere you go, someone has a different story about the technology that's inside the new 40 gigabyte PS3 model. There seems to be a bit of confusion over the current state of the Cell processor that powers the console. Is it the original chip that launched with the system, produced with a 90nm fabrication process, or is it a smaller, more efficient chip, produced using a 65nm process?

Today, Sony Computer Entertainment boss addressed the issue directly. In an interview posted at Japan's Impress Watch, Kaz Hirai confirmed that the new model uses a 65nm process for the Cell chip.

The system's RSX graphics chip, on the other hand, still uses a 90nm process. However, the shrinkage of the CPU alone was enough to cut the power usage of the system considerably.

Elsewhere in the interview, Hirai commented on the future of the backwards compatible 60 gigabyte and 20 gigabyte (still available in Japan) models. He confirmed that neither model is in production at the moment. However, he added that depending on how the market reacts, it's possible for Sony to produce them again."

Nice Heads Up! Rep Added

Amazon don't get their PS3 stock until 13 Jan, I wonder what are the chances of a new Amazon PS3 bundle deal appearing?

Personally I used Dixons on Monday for a 40GB PS3 for £269.99 with the jan10 discount code.

However I wish i'd have seen this now. I really did want the 60GB but nevermind, I bought my PS3 to play PS3 games, not PS2 so i'm happy.

i dont see why anyone would buy a 40GB if they can get the 60GB at this price, bargain! I think the built in card reader is worth it alone. its amazing how much i use it, transferring photo's from my camera, phone etc and more

Don’t kid yourself the 60GB version is far better than the featureless 40GB version and you know it!

these are selling for over £400 and near the £500 mark on ebay so some profit to be made....:whistling:

apart from being able to put an extra HD on the PS3, I would reccommend this version. Got one myself.
#25
can u attach a card reader to the 40GB model???

alot of people saying that the 40Gb is alot more quiet and better one to go for. u can always upgrade the HD so its only the card reader and the usb slots and PS2 playback ur loosing?
#26

I haven't seen a PS3 in person but doesn't it have several usb ports? so wouldn't it be cheaper if you just get a usb card reader for <£5?

I can't see why would anyone want a 60GB version unless they want to play ps2 games on it.
#28
just ordered one hope it comes
#29

Sony have said they won't release an 80GB in PAL regions [Europe and Australasia]. They may, but they've said they wont...

You mean backward compatability, a memory card slot and two USB ports?

Backward compatability... I sold my PS2 and games a long time ago.
Extra USB ports? Why bother?
And as for the memory stick slot, I dont need that either as I've got my PS3 networked with my PC.

In the coming months I'll be putting a ~200GB hard drive in my PS3 so I can download media to my hearts content.

I'm a playtrader and it wont let me buy one.

It also plays SACD which is important to some people.
And it is the unit to have really - especially for re-sale as it will remain more desirable should Sony not release the 80GB.
Face it - some people want the extra features

Im VERY tempted to buy and stick on ebay - use the profit to make a 40GB unit cheaper (helps ease the pain of spending money right after xmas)........

Duh - pluggin in additional USB devices such as memory stick, hard drives, charging additional controllers......
Why have one machine to do the memory stick slot, when you can have 2. Let's waste as much power as poss
Just because it's 60gb, doesn't stop anyone upgrading the drive - so we cam all do it - I'm going to put a 1tb drive in and then world domination mmmmwwwwhhhhhaaaaaaaaa:-D

Sorry Johno84, just jessing with you - all down to personel preference, all I know is it's a decent Blu Ray player, excellent hi def games console and hopefully the software people will start bringing out decent games.
Gamer tag is KPKILLER is anyone is online for some battles later, RFOM, COD4, Motorstorm, Fifa.

Question - using the direct link you get this offer...
however, if you try searching for this on their site, it unavailable? I'm starting to think this may be bogus!

Also, nobody answering the phone! Goes to an engaged tone
