In the local rag for Watford they are selling the 80GB PS3 for £199.99 to the first 50 customers on Saturday and the first 50 customers on Sunday.
I don't know if it's nationwide or just a local deal.
Worth checking though at that price.

sounds like a store re-launch deal.
#2
feasible if its the console alone as mentioned before retailers are feeling the pinch in sales and sales will be coming before xmas for a change
#3
I'll reserve judgement until the morning I think
#4
can someone try and find out a little more about this

probably, queues of ****** buying 5 to sell on ebay

Good price, but can anyone really be bothered to queue for one of these. I can't imagine myself queueing through the early hours in this bitter cold for a ****** console to save what £30 to £40 on a single console.

Good luck to anyone who bothers chasing this, and take some gum-shields if the last currys opening sale was anything to go by.

:thumbsup:just wanted to add, they ran this deal a few weeks ago at my local currys in colchester, i was lucky enough to bag a £199 ps3. they don't adevertise it very much, but there were loads of other bargains on tv's, cameras, fridges, sat-navs etc. they are doing it to generate interest in the stores which have recently been refurbished/opened. apparantly, they loose about 90 quid on each ps3 sold!

be warned though, i arrived at 5 a.m. (sad, i know) and i wasn't the first there! i then had to que for nearly 5 hours so bring a paper and a hot drink if you go! also, the bloke there told me there was a full-on riot when they did this in swindon! i guess that means they are doing it up and down the country so keep a look out for a leaflet in your local paper!

This is a store re-launch. It was recently refurbished and these are the opening offers. Considering what Gordon's done to the economy, be prepared for looooong queues!

if you queue for 5 hours, as some have, it's £20 per hour to work in the freezing cold and the darkness in early hours of the weekend... it would be better to get a job as a night time security guard if that's your idea of fun

Can you show me where there are any security guards jobs going for that rate!!!!!! :whistling:
#20
Great price but for all the hassle of waiting & freezing in the queue i would rather just buy one of the great £299 ps3 bundles around, Hot if your not bothered about queueing for a long time.

Well some people go through the ridiculous hassle of buying and inevitably sending back a defective XBOX with red ring of death to save £100, and that takes days/weeks (on each occasion it happens), so this is comparatively more cost effective.

Yeah, but to put that into perspective, a 4 bed semi in the north doesnt cost £5m either so your £20+ p/hr in the South isnt really that good is it :whistling: TRUST me, up here £20 p/he is a good rate, Security guards would be lucky to be earning minimum wage as would most unskilled labour jobs too! You are highlighting the ridiculous cost of living in London not showing that this deal is cold.

they had this offer at the birmingham currys a while ago....

complete mayhem and im not sure the 50 people even got a ps3 or satnav, or tv's.....

i went for an acer laptop, and i didnt even know the sales was on, asked 3 different sales staff what they thought of the laptop and they all tried to sell me a sony one "we only have 10 left sir...there were 50 this morning"

i didnt buy it, went back next day to find about 50 sony laptops on a pallet and bought the acer (which was miles better and was abvious it was!)

so be warned you might que forever and not get what you want and then be directed towards goods the staff have been advised to push on you.....

If this was a geniune £199 for all customers then it's a good deal, but it's only for the first 50 each day who are inevitably prepared to queue to make sure they get one. Most online deals at the moment around the £299 price include extras, usually a game or two and a movie.

This is £199 for the console alone which I appreciate is £100 of the RRP, but not £100 off the current selling price when you look at the bundles on offer everywhere.

In my books, discounting the extra's you are missing in this deal against other online deals, the real savings to be made on this deal are around £30 to £40 (that's assuming you can get the games & a movie for £20 each in the other deals).

Recent example herehttp://www.hotukdeals.com/item/276331/ps3-80gb-little-big-planet-fifa-09-/

Not wanting to get into a bitching argument over this, but for me personally I couldnt be bothered with waiting a number of hours outside a store in the cold & dark on this weekend when it's forecast to be bitter cold, when the savings to be had are just not worth it.

Like I said, good luck to those that do, and I hope they get one.

A nice warm bed seems like a better idea to me.

Heat and rep added to first poster.

Got a friend to check the matrix system for the pricing of Currys in Barnsley & Meadowhall (South yorkshire)..and no price change expected..must be a local thing..but good find :)

Don't want to get into a North/South argument, most jobs will pay double for unsociable hours outside 9-5 wherever you are unless it's shift work. I stayed outside HMV Oxford Street for the HD DVD player and it wasn't worth it lol.

PS3's are "duty free" equivalent airside at airports, at gatwick you can get 17.5% off the price at Currys and HMV, so if you are flying out worth a go if you want to save a few quid. Wii's are £153 as well.

No argument dude, just highlighting the point thats all  our security guard hired via an agency gets £7p/hr even through the night, which it probably why stuff goes "missing" :-D
#33
the store looks pretty much the same anyway, all they have done is change the sign! Its a good deal though (especially as i live in watford)

Robbing Northern Monkeys.

Just kidding, the North is nothing special, its only the people that make it a nice place to visit

heat and repped :)

The staff will have bought these before the first customer walks in the door.
#38
Personally, i think you must be a mug to queue up for this, it's not a £100 saving, must be pretty obvious when there had been so many PS3 deals going for around £300, bundled with 2 games and a blue-ray remote control or blue-ray disc. Ofcourse unless you intend to just buy the console, and don't plan to buy any games. Voted COLD deal.
