Noise from Sony suggests price cuts in April. If you're not desperate why not wait 6 weeks?
360 will probably drop too if/when it happens.

#12
Warm...no vote submitted. £269.99 @ Amazon as well with a free HDMI cable so better value. Obviously some might prefer argos as they can pick up from store.
#13
guys im looking to buy one of these as a birthday present....

something was said to me along the lines of the older ps3's are better because they support ps2 games properly, which has been removed from later ps3's and also something else i can't remember maybe about usb ports i'm not sure. Can anyone educate me please about this?

Markeh:
60gb PS3s stopped being sold about a year ago, but had 4 usb ports, a media card slot and could play most PS2 games.
40gb PS3s came out around the same time and were cheaper but only had 2 usb ports, no media card and can't play PS2 games.
All later versions of the PS3 are the same as the 40gb, but with bigger hard disks - 80gb and now 160gb.

Personnally, I'd like to be able to flog my PS2 to help pay for the PS3, so backwards compatibility would have been good. But the 60gb ones are still going on ebay for £300+ - and for kit that's that old, it's no longer making any sense for me to get one.
If it's true that the price will come down in April, then I'll wait till then - all I want is a media centre that can play the odd game, a perfect deal for me would be the console, 2 controllers and a blue-ray remote - leave the games and films out of it.

presumably you've just typed that from the best media player available, PC/Laptop.

It's a pretty good deal but Argos were doing the same deal before Christmas but you could have all 3 of the above games, for £287 all included.

£314.87 here? :?

HMV in York are still doing Playstation plus any three games (£39.99 each) for £293.61 which is a way better deal. They let me swap one of the games for blu ray remote/sony hdmi cable and hellboy bluray pack. In the end (last week) i got

80GB plus dual shock
GTA IV
Buzz Speacial Edition (normally £50)
Bluray remote
Sony HDMI
Hellboy DVD

This was £303 (I paid an extra £10 as Buzz was £49.99)

I've looked down that route, but HTPC cases are expensive, throw in a HDMI motherboard and a blueray drive, and before you've even got started you've spent over £200, add in decent tuner cards and you've blown the PS3 budget. And all for a computer that you can't use much as a computer because you're watching telly through it - and isn't much cop when you fancy a race or a footy match against your mates. I think I'd having a PS3, Sky HD and a DVD recorder would be more convenient and easy to use....although if anyone that does all that through a HTPC knows otherwise, I'd genuinely be interested in hearing about it.

Unless you really want a Blu Ray player, you are better off with an Xbox 360. Much better and more powerful graphics for a start due to a more powerful graphics chip and a hardware scaler. And Xbox live. Sony doesnt have anything like it. Playstation network sucks in comparison. HD movies downloadable from Netflix too on the Xbox 360.

The Xbox 360 is also much cheaper with more games and more exclusives. This gap is only likely to get bigger as the Xbox 360 is currently outselling the PS3 by 2:1.

From reviews of GTA IV, one of the PlayStations historical 'must have' games:

" Xbox 360 runs at full 720p (1280x720), whereas the PlayStation 3 code takes a 20 per cent hit, being natively rendered at 1152x640 before being software-upscaled."

"the results clearly show that over the course of the entire clip, 360 out-performs PlayStation 3 in every one of the six scenarios presented here"

"After almost two thousands words of technical discussion, the bottom line is that it's clear that Rockstar had some issues matching the basic performance of the Xbox 360 game on the PS3 hardware. Lower resolution, zero anti-aliasing support and a more variable frame-rate are the bottom line"

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/gr...article?page=4

Similar is true for pretty much any other game that has a version on both platforms.

So think carefully before you spend twice as much...

Best deal around also argos accept quidco if you order online not to sure if they accept it with reserve and collect online. All 3 are great games so there is not bad choice imo.

Nope, mine is fine, thanks. Did have a PS3 too, but sold that. Having used both I have to say that there is zero point in spending extra on a PS3 unles you want a BluRay player.

Bluray seems to be a very limited life format that is just a stop gap until HD downoads become common place. I note that there are already over 1 million subscribers to Netflix HD via the Xbox 360...

You can find complete Blu Ray rips on the internet before the disc is even in the shops with all the copy protection removed - that they wasted so much time and money on - and that massively inconveniences consumers having to have HDCP compliant monitors, HDCP compliant PC OS, HDCP compliant graphics cards etc. to even be able to play the things back!

So those that want to copy the discs easily can - and those that just want to watch them cant! Typical Sony rubbish just like the copy protection on their digital Walkmans lost them that market too...

You have a 3 year warranty with Post Paid return on your xbox 360, so use it if you have a problem!

Jeez richto, take a deep breath...

I own a 360 (used daily) and a Wii (battling for cupboard space with the iron). I'm not fussed about Blu-Ray. BUT! The PS3 is finally looking worth a purchase. Motorstorm 2, LIttle Big Planet, Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4... some nifty exclusives there. It certainly wouldn't replace the 360, and it wouldn't see as much use, but for the serious gamer, those exclusives (with more to follow) make it an attractive propsition.

And this deal? Hot!

Yes the Wii is horrible junk, only usefull for young children and parties.

The games you mention are not really much competition when you consider exclusive releases like Halo3 ODST, Mass Effect 3, Fall Out 3, Gears Of War 2, Fable II, Left For Dead, Splinter Cell, Alan Wake, Ninety Nine Nights 2, Ninja Blade, 2 Days to Vegas, Project Forza 3, Too Human 2, etc, etc.

Metal Gear Solid 5 is already in development for the Xbox 360, so not that much of an exclusive...

If you already have a console and are fanantic enough to want another then you may be right. However as a sole purchase the PS3 is a thumbs down from someone who has used both...

Yes, I am sure you are the authority on all things game related, please tell us what all people enjoy. Please leave the 360/PS3 retreaded handbag waving at the door.
