This is available for £379.99 from dvd.co.uk. With 5% Quidco cashback you can potentially get it for £364.32. The cashback only applies to the amount before VAT.

I personally wouldn't pay that for any console but it may be useful to someone.

I would recommend waiting for the unavoidable price cut - even Sony themselves have admitted that one is on the cards. That strategy makes sense also when you think about the limited selection of games currently available.

I'm not sure I'd even buy one if they cut the price to £300. I know a lot of people would though. I thought this price was pretty good for someone who was willing to pay silly money for one.

Just rather pay less for a Xbox 360 or a Wii  Price is going down though

Do you have a source for that? Not criticising just interested.

When you add in the HD-DVD player and wireless bridge for the xbox 360, is it so over priced though?

I have not heard of any reliability problems with the PS3, or issues with the noise when its playing games/DVDs.

I'm currently sitting on the fence as to what way to go with a next gen console for the kids (and the big kid in the family). The xbox appeals because we currently have an original xbox so have could play some of the old (but good) games. As it has been out for longer there are also more games available (and I like, sorry the kids like driving games so Forza 2/DiRT appeals). Would also like to take advantage of the media player options these next gen devices have, and from my limited knowledge the PS3 seems to come out on top there.

It's quite surprising (even in this situation) that they are openly admitting this, but I guess it's quite obvious for anyone observing that something must be done and quickly. Having sales figures worse than Gameboy simply cannot continue for long if Sony wants to stay in business.

I haven't heard of Sony officially stating that a price cut is imminent but to be honest, this is inevitable with the lack of worldwide sales, especially in their homeland.

Even Famitsu Magazine (Japans legendary multi format gaming mag) has critised the PS3's poor sales records, stating that it's selling below the minimum of 10,000 consoles sold per week not to be considered as a flop (only a little over 8000 consoles are sold on a weekly basis, which is disgraceful for the newest console on the market) and it's also being outsold by the Nintendo Wii by 11 folds.

Japan is the country that makes the PS3 and despite it's small terrortory size compared to America and Europe, it is one of the biggest gaming markets in the world, so Japans influence effects the companies decisions for the rest of us.

Forza 2's rubbish so.....

I agree, the console is not worth more then £300 in my eyes, so I got one of Ebay from HK, £295 lol. If your really fussy with money, then do that, if not then stfu :)

I don't think the price cut will come until Christmas though. So you still have quite a wait. But by then they'll be a load of new games that should see it become the dominant console in 2008 (when based on games sales).

Have you played the final release then?

TBH I didn't rate the first Forza, it just didn't live up to all the hype surrounding it.

I don't think Sony will stall that long before a price cut, as Sony's sales have been dire and considering they have a strong and recognised brandname in this sector, they've performed appallingly.

In my opinion, the price cut for the console will come weeks prior to Halo 3's launch due for september now, in order to get the attention away from the Xbox 360, as it's the console they're directly competing with and the Wii is considered as a different type of gaming completely, which is why they've expanded the market and really and truly, they don't have competition.
Even market experts state that in order to be upto date with the gaming scene, they recommend you purchase a Wii and then decide between either an xbox 360 or a PS3 but they still recommend the 360 above the clearly technically superior PS3.

Anyway, Sony have no choice but to reduce the price very soon, otherwise developers are going to reduce the amount of support they offer with exclusive titles, due to reduced marketshare.
At the end of the day, developers potential sales depend on the amount of consoles available, which is why console manufacturers such as Microsoft and Sony make a loss on every console sold but they more than make this back by the percentage they receive for every game sold on their machine but if they don't have a market available, then they lose out all round.

So as i mentioned, with the weak sales reported throughout the world, Sony has no choice but to reduce the price in the near future and stores are already reported to be unhappy with the mistakes Sony have made, which means they've sold appalling for a rather large investment of stock that they've struggled to shift.
