Playstation 3 Console 40gb HDD - £279.99 Delivered by Courier (No postal strike delays)
Playstation have made a new console with a 40GB hd.
It lacks the Backwards Compatibility (So no playing PS2 titles), the front USB ports are no longer there, along with the memory card readers, but the price is heading in the right direction!
It has two USB 2.0 ports, these are only at the rear of the console.
It comes with one sixaxis wireless controller
*Please note, there is no picture on the website so I borrowed this one from google images.

Pretty sure there is quidco with these aswell........
Which is obviously not a problem considering the VAST library of PS3 games currently available. Seriously can't see why anybody would buy this, unless they just wanted a Blu-ray player.
Does have 2 USB ports, reduced from 4.

well its not like your gonna buy a ps3 for ps2 games now are you?
Why not? The whole point of the ps3/360 is that they were backward compatible (to a point). The 360 gets cheaper but stays at the same spec, the ps3 gets cheaper and lobotomised. Seems like a bit of a rip to me considering the euro PS2 is emulated rather than having the chip so therefore it costs them NOTHING to leave the emulation intact.
Price drop has been confirmed!
New 40GB model does NOT have backwards compatibility after all, no memory card reader, and 2 USB ports instead of 4. Its been confirmed at £299.
The original 60GB model is now £349 and comes complete with 2 first party games. Christmas should be very interesting
So if thats true, anybody buying at £299 would be an idiot? Opinions. Seems much better value to get the 60GB now.
Confirmed release date is 10 Oct
i would have said the whole idea of them is to improve on the older system and play the games designed to take advantage of the newer, better technology. playing the older games is merely a bonus, i cant say i have found myself looking for xbox 1 games or ps2 games to play on the 360 or the ps3.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but I think the no backward compatibility means no H/W compatibility which the US machines originally had, since the UK/Europe machines only ever used software emulation it should still be the same for this machine. But I agree, why should we be ripped off in the first place.
Hopefully this new ps3 will mean a drop in the price for the 360 elite which i am more tempted to get than this. Voted hot though, good price for those who want one.
That mostly word games though. What if you had favourites on the old system that you wanted to keep playing? Take two bottles into the shower?
News Story on the new pricing structure etc.
Actually the EU BC is a combination of software and hardware. The EU units lack the Emotion Engine chip that some of the US versions have and this is emulated in software, but the unit still needs the GS chip which is hard to emulate due to the embedded DRAM on it.

i dont take 2 bottles into the shower, i do wii in there though.:?
i got rid of all my ps2 games when i got the ps3, saw no point in having them.
i take the point though, especially as at the moment, there are no good games for the ps3, i have found myself buying ( well getting from blockbusters for credit) games like heavenly sword and pirates of the carribean, just so i have something to play on it, my xbox elite has all the shiny new games while the ps3 is my hd player at the moment.
I'm just waiting to see Microsofts response:giggle:
By the way, come the 10th I think the PS3 has finally got the edge on the Elite (thanks to the blu-ray), lack of games no withstanding as they will eventually turn up.
