Wasn't sure whether to post this in here or in student moneysaving, but as most other ps3 offers are in this forum I thought I'd put it here.

Virgin are currently selling a PS3 bundle of console, 2 controllers and 3 games (from a selection of 6) for £425 (in store, not online).

Each item is individually priced, so they scan in each item opposed to one £425 item. This comes to rougly around £580.

With a virgin student card you get 10% off, but this is taken off the ORIGINAL selling price - so a £58 discount!!!

Bringing the grand total to £366 (give or take a few pence!)

I'm not sure if the discount us supposed to be that big, or if it is a mistake, but I was one happy bunny when i went in to buy a PS3!!! Had enough left over for a couple of Blu-Ray DVDs too!!!!

A friend of mines said" He got one of the Virgin cards without an NUS card. The staff didn't seem too fussed as long as he had something university looking."

ANY VIRGIN CARD THAT ALLOWS 10% DIACOUNT SHOULD WORK FINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Duh, if they discount the 10% before the £160 off ... as stated in the very first post...

    £585 - 10% = £526.50 then minus the £160 = £366.50

wow that could turn out as 270 if you sell the games and maybe even 250 if you sell the controller voted hot excellent deal!!

maybe the idea is that people are furthering their education for their own good and ultimately the country's good and receive f&** all money for choosing that route. Therefore, big companies offer Student discounts in order to increase their rep and gain a relationship of sorts with the penny pinchers over their products. Not too hard to work out? Or was it just a cheap dig at the thousands of youngsters trying to further their education? I suspect the latter:whistling:

Can anyone else confirm this price? The OP stated that each item was scanned through individually, yet is this going to be the case in EVERY store? Also, won't a more alert employee realise that the items should come to £425 in the first instance and simply discount £42?

Either way it's still probably the best deal going, as most offers force you to take at least one game that's dire.
  18. deleted50699's avatar
i bought this without discount they scan all the iteams then scan a bar code for £160 off. i guess then they would so the student discount.
  19. StolenDiagram's avatar
Surely the members of staff would have been briefed on the price of the package deal though and would realise to apply the correct discount?

This all seems like the OP's personal case of luck to me (if indeed his story is accurate and not a fabrication)

    It's not a 10% discount for students AND credit card holders - it's either/or.

You'd have to be pretty moronic to apply both.

£382.50 if 10% added after the discount of the games/pad

£366 if done before, either wasy it's still the best and cheapest deal on the high street.

    now now don't be rude.

don't know how virgin tills work, but in supermarkets you can get them to swipe your card through first before they scan any products through.

    Just a thought.

not after a PS3, happy with my unreliable 360

Better value... that's debateable. Add £39.99 for XBoxLIVE, £50 for the wireless kit, the HDD is only 20GB and add another £100 for the HD DVD add on. Yes i know it depends if you want HD but i'm sure the majority of us buying HDTVs and new consoles would also like HD movies. Considering the 360 has been out much longer it's hardly surprising there's more games.

£366 is a cracking deal.. it's about £25 for a controller and an average of £30 a game so the PS3 comes in at £251 which is fantastic for what you get included, standalone Blu Ray players are more than that.

    - Most supermarket and large store tills take off discount automatically using the backoffice system, so it is not due to the cashier being "moronic"

    - Why do students get discount - look up "price discrimination" - an economic term, as said above, basically charge people what they can afford. Very little to do with companies helping out students I'm afraid!

As for student bashing, just bear in mind that many many students(myself included when I was one!) basically "work" full time, due to lectures, and then work both days on the weekend as well just to get by(on both assignments, and part time jobs), whilst the government charges you for the privilege of trying to better yourself, and with little or no financial help(ooo 12 grand student loan, which we will charge interest on - thanks!).
