They don't ship PS3s to the EU ;)
#2
Ship to colleague/friend/relative in Singapore/else where and ask them to ship to uk.
Any differences between USA and Japanese model.

Any region coding?

Customs would be a problem, import tax and duty, levies. Unless they are coming to UK for christmas and can bring with them.

Surely easier to import from a company that ships to the UK. They are readily available if one is willing to pay.

Nothing major.

Any region coding?

For games, not currently. For movies, yes but the US and JPN are classed as the same territory for bluray movies.

Yesasia pre-pay customs taxes etc. Though most vendors don't.

Absurd prices, i don't want anythng to do with the PS3 till probably around the time when the PS4 comes out, and you can pick one up for £100

Till then, I'm very happy with an Xbox 360 and my PC
#5
I am going to wait for UK Version. I have a 360 as well at the moment and i am currently playing Gotham racing but GT5 is going to be the one next year.
#6
I don't think 469 is that bad, I probably would have bought one if they could ship to here, plus I bought my PSP when I was in HK and the build quality was far better than on my friend's Euro units.

It's a real shame that Sony are *******s.
#7
I'm a bit annoyed though because I posted a thread yesterday with a link where you could have them shipped to the uk and my thread was removed because apparently the mods wanted uk only deals on here (which is understandable) but this offer has made it to the front page and it doesn't even really work in the traditional sense.

Why is this ?
#8
Maybe YesAsia has a UK depot?
#9
Sorry, but when Sony's managing director replied to questions about the PS3 with comments such as:-

"It's a playstation, people will buy it even if it doesn't have any games" or "If you think it's too expensive, you'll just have to work harder", I decided it will be a long time before they get me to buy a new playstation again. :x

I'll stick with my Xbox360 & Nintendo Wii thanks.

people are so quick to say it's too expensive, but they forget it's got a blu-ray dvd player in... how much do you think you'll have to pay to get a hd-dvd drive for your xbox360?
under £200 difference in price for a high definition dvd player? yes please!

The HD DVD player is about £120 before you get some discounts!

who wants a blueray player anyway? you would go buy a dedicated player, just look at the dvd player on the first PS2s. it rarely worked, and was noisy as hell. buying a ps3 is just helping sony to try and dominate a film format so they can urinate on the film industry too.

The blueray player was put into it so people would say "people are so quick to say it's too expensive, but they forget it's got a blu-ray dvd player in..."

btw im not a nintendo/microsoft fanboy  was actually a sony one until they came out with comments like these

Perhaps it's a good idea to wait.........
http://www.redherring.com/Article.aspx?a=19740&hed=Sony+PS3+Won’t+Run+200+Games

..but I know that my son will want to buy the PS3 ASAP.
#13
I have an xbox 360, and will probably pick a PS3 up when they become available here in March, depends on the games that are available.

How much better than the xbox 360 is the Ps3, blu-ray aside?

You won't see that for general consumer use, only in businesses, universities and Governments in the near future.

We'll have to wait and see, 10 years from now, who knows what we'll have?

Nice to dream about the possibilities :)

Tom_rayner i think its about time you spent some money and updated rofl @ 64 :-D

In ten years from now we will prob have virtual games where the graphics are exactly like the real thing and pizzas will come in 1 inch sizes and can be enlarged in the Cook2010 oven and ony takes 2 secs to cook hehe
#24
In ten years? Hover boards of course :) (and HUKD permanently linked to our retinas).

the PS3 is more powerful than XBOX 360. This is becuase it has a more powerfull processor with 7 SPE's. But it is harder to develop for compared with XBOX 360 hence at the moment the games look the same. But within a yr PS will have games that look better than 360 games. Also the PS3 can handle more hence games will have better AI and pyhsics.

The Blue-ray drive/disc can hold 50 gb's compared to 360's 9gb. While many think blue-ray is unnecessary 360 games are already doing 7.5/8gb-just imagine how it'll be within 2 yrs or so!
#26
Less is known about the PS3 architecture (which does not abide to tradition) so of course it has the potential to exceed the 360s capabilities. However the system has several potential bottlenecks chiefly concerning the RAM which means it might have some problems. What's the point in all that media capacity if the machine doesn't have the memory to display it?

As lovely as 1080P is how many people can even display it? That's a lot of tied up system power - Granted things will change when these resolutions become common place within the HDTV market.
#27
I have a HD Sanyo PLV-Z3 projector and that doesn't even support 1080p, only 1080i or 720p, ok its a couple of years old, but its a top piece of tech with HDMI and an excellent picture. I doubt many of the budget LCD tv's out support 1080p
#28
Likewise, I use a high-def projector that maxes out at 1280x720 which looks brilliant. I don't even know anyone else who owns a HDTV, let alone anyone with a 1080P enabled screen. Seems like a jump too soon, though the PS3 will be around for a decade so maybe it is the right decision - who knows :)

aren't standalone blu-ray players like £800-1000? that's quite a saving to me, and i'd rather have one device do the job of two

so let's say it didn't come with a blu-ray drive... you'd save £200, which is nice...

let's take out the high powered graphics... down another £100

wireless controller system....no need for that...

etc etc

well now it's very cheap... but what can it do

Play have been taking pre-orders since September - so I wouldn't hold out much hope of getting a PS3 from them within a month of release.

well if i wanted to buy a blueray to watch movies like the ps3 is suposed to do, then I would buy a £1000 standalone player.

its like buying an 42" LCD tv with crap responce time. if your gonna do something, spend a bit more for some decent quality!

wasn't denying it wasn't cheaper, but as they say you get what you pay for

it doesn't really matter about the specs. it's about what the developers can do software wise!

i read somewhere both systems are actually very similar but have no solid proof. but the evidence is out there all over the place.

ps3 sounds more powerful, but the CPU doesn't have any cache i heard.

the xbox gpu runs a half breed of directx 9 and the future directx 10 which is not available at all yet.

go do a search on google you'll find loads of stuff. but try and stay away from dedicated fan sites, they'll tell you a rock is mroe powerful than their rival system!
#33
oh and the ps3 will prbably have like an emotion engine or something and that will make it great. ;)
