Erm... I picked up my reserved one from Virgin today in Cheltenham who currently have 14 others for sale. As I walked into work with it I saw that Game had stock for sale, as did an independent retailer. And now I'm at work, my colleague wants one, and has just this moment bought one on the Dixons website so that he gets 5% cashback with his Egg card and guaranteed delivery tomorrow. Don't think they are really that hard to find!!!
#7
Oh, they are also not that hard to find on eBay either, there seem to be hundreds on their for some reason!!!!
#8
It hasn't sold out anywhere near me, nor have I heard of any shortages for the £425 monster.
#9
Lots of stock at lots of retailers.

Good move by Sony to give away HDTV sets at the London Launch, if they hadn't the news would have been about the non-event launch. Very small queue, and lots of media - oh dear!

I feel really sorry for those trying to off load them on ebay for £600. I can pick one up today at my local argos for the cost price.

This must be one of the most bizarre console releases ever!!

Or not - wasnt sold by seller. negative feedback to show this.

Surprise surprise they are not all sold out on the release date, thats me £20 better off now cos i had a bet with a mate that they would'nt sell out like the 360 did, does anyone else see another price drop coming for the 360? hope so. All the delayed releases have put me off the ps3 as they was bang upto date if theyd been released on the original timeline, now though tou are buying out of date specs and by some reports a lower spec than originally planned! I personally think sony have messed themselves up big time with this one!

I don't - Maybe the product is overpriced and I think they've made a mistake by including Blueray which bumped up the price. However for once a console company actually produced enough consoles to satisfy the demand on launch date (even if it is the wrong time of year). Nintendo messed up, MS messed up but Sony should be congratulated on getting the numbers right.
BTW I'm a happy owner of an Xbox 360....

Xbox360 had 50,000 available at launch near Xmas
PS3 has 220,000 - thats why it wont sell out till monday or later this week

Wii still sold out nationwide (nearly 4 months after release), PS3 collecting dust. i doubt that it will ever be out of stock. If Blu Ray fails to take off (which it will like all Sony media ever has done UMD, MiniDisc anyone??) Xbox will be reduced soon (and HDMI version realeased) i can't see Sony beating MS or Ninty this time around. the arrogance of them will be the undoing of the PS3.

Totally agree with U. Lets not forget that all conquering Sony format known as 'Betamax' too :-D Also all the multiformat releases are inferior on the PS3 compared to the 360 ;-) Lets not also forget that if U have a powercut then theres a strong possibilty your shiny new PS3 will die :w00t:
#20
you honestly believe that sony has 220,000 units to sell today?

hahaha funny :)
#21
You mean because Sony delayed their release all the shops have been given a much higher allocation than Microsoft did and due to the time of year it hasn't sold out yet still out sold the xbox 360 on launch apparantly.

Rumours are, plenty of PS3s readily available now, but Sony being a console dealer are going to **** it up just before Christmas as if the big boom happens as expected then, there wont be enough PS3s available compared to demand.

Will wait and see on that one though.
#22
Yep, loads available in Tunbridge Wells Argos branch by the look of it.

I also think Sony have mucked up bigtime on this one...especially by delaying the Europe release (and then downgrading the European version so it plays less PS2 games!)....I think I'll skip getting one until the price has come down (and until there is a clear winner in the HD-DVD/Blueray war!)

My 360 will do me fine for the moment.

I think Sony have got it wrong here. I was one of the millions who couldn't wait for details on Sony's new console last year. I waited with baited breath.
When their power hungry, overpriced machine was first promoted I was really dissapointed. In fact, I crossed it off my shopping list straight away.
Many will want one at all costs, but the majority will consider it too expensive. They should have put a DVD drive in it, and sold a blu-ray add-on as a seperate item. At the same price point as the premium 360, it would have flown off the shelves. At this price, you may as well get a laptop and enjoy the portable PC gaming experience. The games are quarter the price also.
Sorry, but the PS3 will be a damp squib unless they can eat humble pie and lower the price. Blu-ray or not, it is out of reach of the average consumer at £425.
#25
everyone forgets why the PS3 is so much, break down what it has compared to buying all the extras on an Xbox360 and u will see that the PS3 works out cheaper. end of the day they rekon its gona be around for some time (well over 5 years). so they not going to it by halfs. they are tryin to make it cheaper (which they will do over the next year) but for now the price is fair for what ur getting. if you cant afford it than its not their fault coz its a reasonable price for what ur actually buying. look how much a blue ray player alone is? look how much a core pack Xbox is and combine the cost? i think the PS3 is a bargain for now. but this will all change in the furture as PS3 comes down and Blueray becomes more in demand. the sales might not compete with the Wii or 360 and its down to the price. but people shouldnt be putting it down because it is in a league of its own at the moment. and in a years time when the games are fully developed and the (maybe) new 360 is out then we will see the winner!

They had to include Bluray in the machine, or the format would have died on its a*se (And they wouldn't want to see that happen bearing in mind its their format that they've staked a lot of money in). Standalone Bluray players are still way above their HD-DVD counterparts.

I predicted it would get a luke-warm recption over here just like it did in the US. Sony have taken the micky for too long, and things like saving a couple of quid by ripping the emotion chip out of the UK version just takes the biscuit.

Having had both the previous PS from neigh-on launch, Im steering clear, Im happy with my 360.

Im glad to see the Ebayer's are getting their a*ses stung too, theres always some satisfaction out of that, considering some of them are sitting on a pallet or two of them.

@n1, everything you said is true. Penny for penny, it probably is good value.
But good value or not it will not sell to people who don't have the money to spend.
If they want to sell it as a 'bargain blu-ray player', then it will sell as well as any bargain blu-ray player will sell ... ie. so-so. If they want a PS3 in every home in the UK, as a game console, then they will have to lower the price. If I wanted a blu-ray player, there are better options than the PS3.
But I don't want one, as I have no HD TV to utilise with it.

If you want a bargin by a PS3 from Ebay. Hundreds of preorders from people thinking they will make hundreds of pounds, like the 360 and Wii and they are all selling for less than the shops.
I bet they are all gutted now.:giggle:

I just had a look at past sales today on eBay and was supprised to see that some of the really expensive 'Buy it now' PS3's had sold! However if look thru them you realise that most, if not all, have sold to the same two bidders!! It has all the hallmarks of a scam, after all who spends over 2 grand on multiply PS3's on eBay when you could get them cheaper in the shops? I think there are going to be some very unhappy people when they find out they've been had.:-(

BTW - First post! yeah:-D
#35
I know a few people that waited and waited for the PS3 and eventually went for the xbox 360, of course there are always going to be the ones that have to have it but for me I am very happy with the 360.

p.s. I don't know a single person who now wants a ps3
#36
I for one hope that the console dives.

It's a shame as I used to be a great playstation fan and pre-ordered both playstation 1 & 2.

But unfortunately the whole way Sony have handled the release of this console into Europe (banning imports, driving companies out of business, pricing, reducing sepcification, etc...) makes me feel that they are taking to p***.

Everyone I know shares a simliar opinion.

For the record I bought an Xbox 360 6 months ago (despite disliking Mr Gates) and I must say I am very happy.

everywhere i have been today have them in stock
#38
Sounds like it was a bit of a flop launch in France too.

PS3 Launch Leaves Parisiens Cold

Also the SCEF President has said that they haven't secured final fantasy 13 for the ps3 yet, so there's a possibility that it may become multi platform. In which case I won't be too interested in getting a ps3 either.
