You can now pre-order the Playstation 3 from PC World. They have similar bundles to Currys and Dixons, but offer a better Quidco cashback of 6%.

The basic bundle includes the PS3 plus either "Ridge Racer 7" or "Resistance: Fall of Man" for £464.98 + £4.95 shipping, totalling £469.93.

Quidco at 6% of this makes £28.19, so the resulting cost would be £441.73. Note: If you have an NHS 5% discount the final cost after Quidco is £419.88, inc. a game. Thanks, CJ.
- BigFish

Seem to have had an update removed - so see thread for a further code you may be allowed to use to get 5% discount if not an NHS employee.
- BigFish

Postage is now free, so with the 5% code it is now £441.73. 6% Quidco should bring this down to £415.23
- BigFish

Currently (23/2/06) PC World is not listed in Quidco, so the price is now £441.73 after using a 5% discount code.
- BigFish

Obviously, I mean 23/2/07 above
- BigFish

Just had an update from Quidco (23/6/07) when I asked about PC World no longer being there. They say:

"PC World have decided to withdraw from cashback sites as they review their online marketing strategies. Hopefully they will reappear on Quidco at some point in the future."
- BigFish

I'll get these dates write sometime - pity you cannot edit your initial posts - last one should say 23/2/07!!

This is a great deal when you combine it with the NHS 5% code for employees.

Heat and Rep added.

EDIT: I just bought one of these for £446.68 delivered, then the 6% Quidco should bring the final cost down to £419.88. Not bad for the console plus Resistance: Fall of Man.

In America be aware that PS3's are hanging around on shelves, where as you still can't get yourself a Wii anywhere.

The same will happen in the UK (well if we have any sense).
banned#3
Be aware that there are plenty of people saying that there is loads on the shelves in the US. There are also others saying you can't get them in the US.

We know why you can't get a Wii, it was a tactic by nintendo - a clever one - that worked!

I haven't been to america since the launch of either of these consoles, so can't say. I bet atleast half of the people that have been posting saying they are sitting on the shelves haven't either.

I would also like to add that I have seen plenty of posts about people saying they walked into 'such 'n' such' shop and they had 8 Wii's on the shelf - that is luck. Could luck be the same case in america regarding the PS3's?

Sorry Stu, if you, or a relative worked for the NHS you'd know the link.

I wouldn't want to jeapordise the discount for other NHS employees.

Uhm Im NHS so how do I get hold of one of these codes? checked redguava and nada there..

Help?!

It is not just the US where they are sat on the shelves.

Saw plenty for sale in Japan the last time I visited. They are also much cheaper there as well.

Which is why I will be avoiding the PS3, its another Sony product that will be substandard and overpriced.

Saying that, if you want one, this deal is good.

Still getting mine from woolies at the mo, BUT 11% is tempting!

Is it just me that thinks over £400 for a PS3 is a complete rip-off? I would like one but I am not gonna spend that much on one. In a few months time they will have cut the price of them. They always do!

As substandard as all the XBox360's that keep breaking down? For a games console and Blu Ray player combined it's fantastic value for money. If it was, as you suggest substandard, then the internet would already be flooded with PS3 owners complaining about them breaking down which hasn't happened.

No don't worry it's not just you believe me, it's Sony too.

Here's an article from the associated press in the US last week:-

Sony executives think the PS3 will break even in the next fiscal year, which begins in April - and part of the company's strategy may be an early price cut for the new console.

"We may look at the price as part of our strategy to expand the market when the timing is right," Senior Vice President Takao Yuhara told reporters in Tokyo. "Such factors, including price cuts to some extent, are factored in" under the plan to break even in fiscal 2007.

Of course, every console gets less expensive over its lifetime; the surprise is that Sony is thinking about it so soon after the PS3's launch.

I'd love all three consoles, but right now it seems that my £400 would be better spent on my Xbox360 & Wii, followed by a price drop on the PS3 in the Summer.

Well i'd say Microsoft releasing another version of the 360 with a HDMI and larger HDD is a rip off, what about all the people that have already bought one?

Someone care to tell me what's such a hot deal with a games console costing £470?

Sorry, but voted cold.

Voted HOT to counteract your cold = 51% HOT! HOT! HOT! and it IS hot due to you being able to get 6% Quidco off and another 5% with the code supplied, doesn't matter what the product is, it's the savings you can get off the product!
#26
With there likely to be a lot of them on shelves (as I'd expect what happens in America to be mirrored here) what is the point in pre-ordering them? I'd expect the price to be less about two weeks after they are released anyway.

I have been to America since launch and can tell you they were very easy to get after Christmas and even before Christmas in some places. It wasn't unusual to go into a store and see a cabinet full of them, but of course, no Wiis. A lot of them were also returned before Christmas as people bought the console to resell and then quickly found out there was no market for them on ebay (would sell below cost) and had to return them.

Is the NHS discount still valid? I get this at checkout.......

# This 5% discount offer is only available on orders made by NHS employees.
# The discount codes are valid until 30th January 2007, however DSG Retail Limited reserve the right to end the promotion prior to such date without notice.

The price cut take effect in UK within the 12 month from launch. So you will most likely have to wait till next year.

reason there on plenty on the shelves are that there are no decent games available for it yet...has anyone seen the games available on laumch date (world championship snooker 2007 /ridgeracer 7/ sonic etc...)
#32
well if you see a cheaper deal for ps3 elsewhere you can always cancel 14 days after delivery or before 23.03.07, so if your after a ps3 but are waiting for the best pre release deal then ..this is no risk at all no deposit either unlike game and hmv stores .they will only charge your card upto 5days before 23.03.07 (thats if they have stock and have sent out their 3rd email to you) :)

Blu Ray is all just pure marketing. There is no need for a new DVD format from the consumers point of view, its just about the studios and co increasing their revenue. Most HD movies will easily fit on a single DVD. Reject next gen formats.

Its been said a thousand times already, but if you add up all the stuff that you have to buy to make it the same spec (well not quite, no HDMI) wireless bridge £60, plus HD-DVD etc, there pretty evenly priced. Theyre also pretty evenly matched in most ways, except the Xbox is the only one that has the capacity to drown out Henry The Hoover with its DVD Rom :giggle:

You've obviously not seen the 10x quality HD formats bring compared to DVD. The difference is clear to see and will certainly take over from DVD when HD prices come down to current DVD prices.

Also agree with Russ, price-wise for what you get with the PS3 compared to the 360 it's a no brainer. The PS3 is well worth it - maybe not to those who dont care about better quality movies in the home.

Thanks to the poster of this deal. Well done.

Excellent price, best I've seen with both discounts :)

Obviously some people like to use these bargain Forums to Shoot down peoples excellent bargain posts, half the time its to Complain that the item is massively over-priced in the 1st place (well guess what the bargain posts are about... to lower that price!!).

Why can't moaners or people with nothing to add just KEEP QUIET!?!

Bring back Negative Rep (although not for the kids that can't be trusted!)

Anyway rant over!
#38
People make me laugh saying that they will not sell out on launch, they WILL sell out they ALWAYS do and as always people will make £100s on ebay by selling them and people will pay it to get one ASAP.

This is a great price hopefully we will see some good discounts soon because the PS3 is so expensive id expect we may see some 20% off codes for Currys etc
