That's rubbish.... they can't do that.

As above, that is utter tosh. You could pay £1 for it, you're still entitled to a full warranty.

As long as you still have the receipt (be it bought second hand or not) and it shows that it is within the standard 12 month warranty then you should be covered (assuming that you haven't done anything to the console that may void the warranty such as opening it up) - try contact them again and if they say the same thing ask for an explanation to such a policy condition or to speak to a supervisor/person of higher authority.

Heat added.

As I've said in another PS3 deal thread, for those who choose to get this from Best Buy (or even Morrisons) if possible, look for the revised model of the PS3 Slim.

These should have the smaller RSX chip which would mean less power required and heat generated.

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/sony-ps3-slim-250gb-with-2-x-offici/742916?p=9239697

[Re-worded]

Upon purchase, ask the store employee for him/her/you to look on the box for either the following codes, "CECH-2101A" or "CECH-2101B"

"CECH-2101A" or "CECH-2101B" will indicate whether or not it has the revised RSX chip which is smaller thus requiring less power and generating less heat - this revision was intended to save additional costs when manufacturing each unit.

I assume the codes are for the 120GB and 250GB SKU respectively - any other code on the box would indicate the first line of PS3 Slim consoles.

I would imagine that Sony are manufacturing all PS3 Slims with the revised 40nm RSX chip as standard so looking for the revised chip only applies for the 120GB and 250GB models.

Hope this information helps when/if you fellow members purchase a PS3 Slim and happy gaming,

It's got nothing to do with Sony, as you didn't buy it from them.

Eh? It has everything to do with Sony. If you buy a PS3 from Argos and it goes faulty after 1 month (or the period that Argos allows returns) then for the next two years Sony are responsible. If it goes faulty before 2 years Sony have to replace unless you have voided the warranty. I am surprised buying it at a discount voids the warranty. If you bought it from ebay/private seller etc then that is another story.

My playstation slim went down after 8 months (my third blue ray disc problem - I thought the slim was meant to have cured this). I didn't want a refurb from sony so i took it back to Sainsburys - they took it back no problem replacing it with a brand new system of the shelf. The guy said they normally tell people to contact sony but as I was there with my ps3 fully boxed he didn't have a problem. It is completely within your rights to take it back to the vendor, so long as you have a reciept. Expected lifespan is 4 years for a product in this price bracket - within that you can return it. If you come up against any problem argue your case - and make sure you keep hold of your receipt!

Will try and grab one tonight. Stick a 500gb HDD and it'll be sorted.

Can you show me this law that holds Sony responsible? No? Thought not.
#21
Best Buy only have new stock so it will be the latest model. Not much difference though IMO.
#22
Someone on the GOW3 thread claims its the older model.
#23
I bought the GOW3 version instead, and the model number is CECH2003B

Surely any electronic product nowadays is covered by a manufacturer's warranty - not the retailer. It's not about law, it's about the agreement made at the time of purchase. Every product I've ever bought comes with written information about the manufacturer's warranty. If Sony aren't backing their product with a warranty (which I'm sure they are) then it wouldn't be any wonder it's the worst selling console of its generation.

I think the 250 gb is a better offer. I bought the 250 gb version today and then got £17.50 back for GOW3 instore so the 250gb worked out just over £200 but with the 250gb HDD.

Damn, didn't think about trading it in in there. GOW3 is not really for me, but I just saw the better deal. Might go back tomorrow to trade it in, its only round the corner for me.
Thanks for the idea.

Went back in there today, to trade in GOW3. They offered me 12 quid, for a brand new un-opened one! So I left.
Must be the way I look.
