I found this out yesterday, and now my PS3 is on its way to my doorstep!
Usually, student discounts don't apply to game consoles, but either there is a bug at HMV, or they are being very generous!

Basically, all that you do is use your HMV Student Card as usual to buy this item, and you will get a 10% discount from the £299.99 price tag. You can also get Quidco on it as well, to add an extra £2.69 to the discount.

It does not work with the PS3 on its own, only with the PS3 bundled with GT5:Prologue.

I believe it's good value considering the PS3 is bundled with a £20 game! This might not last long if HMV catch on, so get it while you can, perfect if you are waiting for GTA 4 without a next-gen console (like myself)!

I can see why the discount works. The checkout system thinks your buying GT:Prologue (Game). It doesnt realize that a PS3 is also bundled.

Love these kind of deals voted hot.

or you could work your b*llocks off and do a day's release and work the other 4 days like some of us.
dont think that you should put every student in the same boat! :x

buy at dixons with the current save 10 pound voucher for 279.99. 10 pound more but useful if you do not have a student card

Did anyone manage to get this deal to work?

Chill your beans, he is clearly joking.

Anyway, to get a HMV card you need to go to a HMV store and ask for one showing a valid student card. Although they often have none left which is pretty annoying.

Peh most students are hardly poor, if that was the case then why do they go round in big brand clothes with designer sunglasses and aftershaves/perfumes and drink 3 or 4 nights a week and can afford to go to festivals, weekends at the beach etc.

Wish I could afford that and im a student too, but EVERY student I know whinges about cash but seems to have loads of it.
#17
It is odd bit if you add any console with a game such as the Ds/brain training deal the discount also goes through! :P
#18
Hot.

I got Student discount on my PS3 from PC world the other week. Don't know if they were supposed to do it though! - but anyway, this is another place worth trying.

And then I paid with vouchers I got through my work bonus scheme for 10% less than their face value (i.e. £300 vouchers for £270) =

PS3 GT bundle + Unreal Tournament 3 + Burnout Paradise + Play and Charge Cable = £267 :-D

Oh also, I read on the HMV site that they stopped issunig student cards for this Academic Year now as it is pretty much over. You'll probably have to wait until Sept now!

Its because they get into so much debt and pay for it the rest of there lives. You can go out and splash on a credit card too if you want, but im sure your smarter than that ;)

hahaha! Very funny that.

does this mean that quidco thinks it's a game as well? anyone have any insight on this? cos 5% vs 1% would be a nice bonus...
#22
I can't remember if I have a card, I got some kind of HMV card given on fresher's week and I don't know if that was just telling me to get a card or is the student card required here. Sadly I'm not back at uni until the 3rd and that's where my card is! Hence why I'm wondering if this deal works. If not I'll buy elsewhere. There's a store called TheGameCollection doing a PS3 for £280 and NUS 10% off but I don't know the reliability of the store for consoles. Some people have bad experiences with games.
#23
i have a student card and my first purchase online would be not 10% off but 15% off. even more of a bargain now

too bad i already have a ps3 :p

have to use it on somewhere else

i know a shop in east london that were selling these brand new £250 and £230 with ps3 on its own

so not that hot IMO

I don't know about consoles but I was very pleased with the service I got from them ordering a game. It arrived 2 days after I ordered. I used my Cahoot Webcard to avoid security risks though.

Also, I did email them about DS3 controllers and they never replied so I don't know how good they would be if you had a problem.

Top deal, was looking for one... cheers, ordered one for £269.99 with quidco.
#26
I've just checked my order status... and its showing as...

Item to be ordered from supplier
#27
I wish they would just let people use their NUS Extra cards.

I'm not sure what that could mean Scotty. Their website usually stops you ordering if it is out of stock.

Bleh sorely tempted, coz not yet made the foray into the current gen consoles and the blue-ray will be useful. Only prob is with the controller, eww back when I was 11, the PS1 controller was perfect, now my hands are quite big and the design just is too uncomfortable. My old XBOX controller S fits much better, argh what to do ?!
#30
I don't know if this has been mentioned before but Zavvi do student discount on the PS3 instore so you can get a PS3, GT5 and a Blu-Ray for £270.
#31
From what I've read Zavvi won't give the discount on bundles, only unbundled consoles.

see, i find the ps3 controller fine, but the x-box s controllers send my hands into spasms cos they're so small. I have one of the old Man-Sized X-Brick controllers for my PC which i love though. i guess it's just down to individual hands.

Update:

Mines shipped today via ROYAL MAIL SPECIAL DELIVERY.

Thank you for posting this deal! Top notch ;)

I ordered one today and I got an e-mail a couple hours later saying it couldn't verify my payment card details or something. It wanted me to call some 0845 number but I know they're expensive so I decided to cancel my order and place another.

Why could they not verify my card? I'm sure I typed it in correctly. And am I right thinking the cancelled order won't be charged and refunded, just not taken at all since it was cancelled so quick?

Oh and if it happens again and I have to phone them, I'm worried they may say I'm not supposed to use my student card on that purchase. Even though it has been possible for months and the discount is applied automatically if your card is saved to your account.

Seems I also forgot to order though Quidco. :(

Edit: Turns out the cost of the order triggered a security alert on my debit card. Problem solved I hope.

Does this still work? Cant seem to find the bundle on HMV - is it with any console that is bundled with a game or just the PS3?

Really after a cheap PS3 though...

Thanks
