Apparently the Pro has an extra 1GB of memory than the base model.

I asked them to price match yesterday and they said they wouldn't. :|

The "slow" xbox one type of RAM though for that extra GB 8)

Wasn't aware of this, reports i had seen suggested that it leverages more ram by reducing the amount allocated to the os but could be wrong.

I really think they should have stuck an extra 4gb in there and made it 12gb like the new xbox will most likely do. Available ram is probably going to become an issue within its lifetime.

Much as the ps4 pro interests me as a gamer i feel for an upgrade it is a console of too many compromises, no doubt for financial reasons, to offer the kind of step up people really want...

I don't think this will sell too well to be honest. I think people would rather spend money on the VR headset - at least you're getting something new rather than a slight graphical tweak on selected games.

Still, I'm hoping the lack of a 4k drive will help kill off 4k quickly so studios can go back to supporting the vastly superior 3D format :{

No need to hate on the 4K format just because you can't afford it. 3D is slowly dying out due to the latest TV's no longer supporting it, like the Samsung 2016 range.

4K is here to stay and it is pretty evident that it is.

Looking at the comparisons between a Nvidia 1060 (6GB) and an AMD RX480 (8GB) (which looks similar spec to the PS4Pro) running Battlefield 1 at 4K both did not use more than ~4.5GB of video memory, the existing PS4 already gives developers about 6GB and the extra 1GB will push that to 7GB so I very much doubt the RAM will be any issue for the type of graphics card in the Pro.
I'm excited for the new Xbox which I will most likely but it is also a) it's a year away b) if the specs are anything to go by it wont be £300 and c) it's no actually a thing, the hardware it's supposedly based does not actually exist, AMD still hasn't finalised their next gen CPU/GPU so atm it's just a nice CG trailer.

I think people need to set their expectations right, I mean a £600 Nvidia 1080 (+another £1000 for the rest of the hardware) can barely do 4K at reasonable speeds and you expect a £300 complete system do it in 60FPS? C'mon get real now. However I blame Sony for this for marketing it that way.

I look at the Pro as the console that both Sony and Xbox should have launched this generation to begin with and already invested in it and wan't to play those exclusives in better detail so will buy it but if you're happy with your existing PS4 then enjoy it and wait for the PS5/Next Xbox.

That's because later on they will try to sell you their 4K HDR 3D TV sets.

So what are the pros of the ps4 pro over the ps4?

Will online players be at an advantage if they're playing on the ps4 pro compared to ps4 users, etc?

I'm interested to see what Scorpio is like, but I have a feeling it's either going to be massively expensive or somewhat underwhelming.
As mentioned before we have no idea about it apart from the fabled 6 teraflops.
I believe Sony has incorporated some clever software to get 4k output, which from what independent online sources say is indistinguishable from native 4k at 1ft away from a 65'' screen!
I worry Scorpio will just contain standard direct X software and not be so optimised (I guess you keep it in line with the play anywhere PC cross play). So will give similar performance for probably twice the price of the Pro.
Also it's going to be a year behind, and I think many people will just probably buy a PC instead if it's over £500 (which might be the case).
Still, we shall see!

Check this out, everything you need to know on how the ps4 pro works and why sony made it that way (easier for devs): http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/283611/Inside_the_PlayStation_4_Pro_with_Mark_Cerny.php

3DTVs never really picked up the pace. They were pretty much DOA.

With 720p and 1080p most people that aren't techy won't upgrade to 4K just to have a TV in 4K.

Back at £349.99 now. Hoping we'll see some bundles soon.

There will be no advantage to users playing on either console. Can't find the link to the article i read but half of the gpu is shut down and downclocked slightly and the processor is downclocked to the base speeds when playing standard games to give the same performance. Games will just look prettier, either though bumping up the resolution or by turning on more bells and whistles. Apparently it does not require a lot of work to make a make this happen so hopefully a lot of the old games will allow for this and i would imagine all newer games will have a 'pro' version. The pro also has the newer revision controllers but im not sure how much difference there will be there other than lighting, a larger hard drive which will in all likelihood be faster and 5ghz wifi.

No 4k bluray drive though, which is a bit of a dissapointment. This console is more for people who want to get a better VR experience, the people who have to have the newest thing or newcomers. Theres really no point in buying the slim when you can spend a bit more and get this if you're new to PS4.

No optical digital out on the slim is a killer for me.
Extra USB on the back of the pro also, handy for VR

I dont understand all the tech but not only have Sony confirmed the extra 1GB of memory but also that the pro is capable of 8.4 teraflops...(and not the 4.2 which was originally reported)

Not sure why this didnt come out earlier but if nothing else, this can only help and improve gaming on this system...

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/283611/Inside_the_PlayStation_4_Pro_with_Mark_Cerny.php#tophead

With the PS4 Pro, said Cerny, “it's possible to perform two 16-bit operations at the same time, instead of one 32-bit operation. In other words, with full floats, PS4 Pro has 4.2 teraflops of computational power. With half floats, it now has double that -- which is to say, 8.4 teraflops of computational power. As I'm sure you understand, this has the potential to radically increase the performance of games.”

Bargain at Brexit prices. Sony must be cursing the currency changes.

This has expired, it's been back at £350 for some time. At this stage I'm waiting till black Friday and even then it would have to be a amazing discount (under £300) as I don't think anything this year is really going to show it off and I'm a little dissapointed that so few existing games are going to get patched. With it's large open worlds I thought the Witcher 3 would have been a perfect game to be patched to benefit but turns out they aren't going to bother.

Real missed opportunity as buying it with the prospect of it enhancing your existing collection is a big motivator IMHO, having to buy a load of new expensive games to see any difference is not....
