I have been searching everywhere for a cheap PLAYTV. I have tried ALL the deals that have already been posted, but none of them are available currently cheaper than this.
Most retailers that I tried instore had not had any units in stock since Christmas, and most online retailers have INCREASED their prices. So I hope this deal helps someone...

(Yes I have bought one)

Oh yes, dont forget Quidco is 3% if you buy online!!!

Got this from them at this price as i was hunting too . definately best price around apart from the odd game/gamestation that may have it at £29.99. For all you who dunno if you should get this i can say its definately worth buying if you need freeview until freeview HD comes. After u do the online update the picture is the best standard def pic i have seen.

:?Please can I ask that if you decide to vote this deal cold, that you please tell me where I can get one cheaper??? (as I would be very interested to hear where, having spent all day looking).

As I have mentioned, I tried ALL the other deals that have been posted on HotDeals for this item and they were all either out of stock or more expensive than £39.99.

Thank you.

P.S. Only copy in Gamestation was £34.99 PRE-OWNED, none at all at Game, Tesco or Toys-r-us (yes I did ask).

Hope that covers it :)

Isn't this the standard price? I've seen it cheaper so many times in the last 3 months that I'd just wait for the next offer to pop up.

Normally I would agree, but everywhere appears to have put prices up... thats if they even have any... no idea why... but this is definitely cheaper than anywhere else at the moment.... I challenge anyone to prove otherwise.

True, I too saw that it was £32 at Cex online, but as you say it is probably used and if that is the case then there is no guarantee what condition the box and its contents will be in.

But for anyone willing to take the chance on a used one, I agree £32 is quite good at the moment and even better if you have a Cex store near you where you can check the item out before you buy it (thats if they have any in stock instore of course).

weren't there several £29.99 price points posted a few weeks ago? just saying in case someone thinks this is the cheapest it has been.

If it's used you'll probably not get the sticky overlay that goes on the PS3 remote to show the extra functions

Great bit of kit! Great interface. Love it.

These are really good... BUT i expect a new version is around the corner as Freeview HD launches in March and needs new hardware for DVB-T2
#12
Sainsburys were selling this £29.99 a few weeks ago. Not sure if its still that price.

I could never understand that, its like the most requested, wanted feature, it should have been the first thing to work on as an update, if they couldn't be bothered before release.

I wouldn't bet on it being around the corner. I'd imagine the DVB-T2 required are very expensive at the moment so it will either be released at an expensive price (and as the standard play tv is overpriced for what it is, that could be VERY expensive) or not for a while yet.

I managed to get a "preowned" one from Gamestation in Paisley, Scotland for the £29.99 price, so it's still worth a try to check in their branches.

When I say preowned it looked like the box had been opened but the disc hadn't been unwrapped so I'm guessing it was never actually used.

given that Sony are one of the only DVB-T2 chipset suppliers out there, then I would hope playtvHD will be coming soon, and perhaps if it weren't for some unusual problem would have already been announced.

dvb-t2 isn't just a different radio modulation scheme, as I understand it the EPG is different too so I imagine there would be a fair amount of work to re-work playTV so it understands the new EPG data.

Exactly.

I'm waiting for the HD version

The HD version will cost £80+ I imagine, so this product is worth buying in my opinion, unless they stop bothering with the series link and use that as a new feature of the HD version.

I am with tungsten on this one... though I am not saying it wasnt £29.99 in your store, it certainly wasn`t £29.99 in mine!!!... you might consider clearing the shelves for me because I will buy the lot off you at £29.99 each (and obviously I will pay postage costs)... let me know how many you manage to get.... and I will write you a cheque......but I wont be holding my breath!

just to update this thread - after reading replies to my "local find" I thought I had imagined it or looked at an Eye Toy by accident

so went back to store today - and it was still there "PlayTV" all boxed, priced up £29.99

a few colleagues showed some half interest - if they don't say they've bought it I'll ping up details of store tomorrow
