plusnet broadband retention deal

just phoned up and got 3 months free very easily, simply because i requested my MAC code from them.

first the guy offered 2 months free, then 2 months and a wireless router, then 3 months. i went for 3 months free, the wireless router is probably worth more than the extra month free if you want to ebay.

Can I ask why you requested a MAC as I'm about to sign up to them?
#2
with plusnet now and would like to try this out however if they just give me the MAC code do you have to leave or can you stay on and just not use the code (if you get what i mean)?
#3
You can stay on after you have been provided a MAC.

Until you action a migration to another ISP by signing up and giving them your MAC code you will remain with Plusnet so no harm in trying for the free months!

I was a plusnet customer but found their customer service somewhat poor. Specifically, when I cancelled my account by requesting my PAC code they made a mistake which resulted in me having to pay another 2 months subs - it took a total of 4 months to get the money back and that was only because Barclaycard got it back

I can confidently say that I would never be a plus net customer again. I'm with Virgin Media now and it's fantastic.

You can stay if you dont use the code.

Request the code through the ticket system and they will call you with an offer.

biyitch - I left them a few weeks ago, there idea of broadband is browsing and email - anything else is slowed to a crawl during peak hours (12pm - 12am)

Precisely, I joined nildram about 18 months ago when they introduced this system and I've never looked back

So whats better requesting on phone or ticket system (as i have to do this on behalf of my mum, they may not discuss account details with me)

I'm with Virgin Media too. The service is great until you have to phone Customer Services and then it gets frustrating. Their billing dept. are also berks.

I'm actually signing my mum and dad up to PlusNet after a massive 3 month long palaver with Toucan (who's customer service is unbelievably SH!TE!). PlusNet have been very helpful so far and the features on their website put most other companies to shame.

That should be okay as that's all my mum and dad will do anyway. Cheers.

Been with PlusNet for years without any problems. I think practically every ISP has some horror stories for some people...
#11
Personally , I've been with PLusnet for 2 years now and they are BRILLIANT !!

no problems with speed, connection or customer service...
#12
Also been with Plusnet for ages (since dialup!) and always had excellent service, on the few occasions where they have had problems they have at least been very honest and said exactly what the problem was and then said how they hope to avoid it happening again.

I don't think that there is any ISP that somebody hasn't had a problem with. We have 2 networked pc's and a Wii connected and get very little slowdown. Don't do P2P but the kids do plenty of online gaming and no problems from us for 15 quid a month!
#13
pls note they r capping people !!!!!!!!!!!!!
#14
another vote FOR Plus.net - been with them 5 years, no problems (including moving house) - I also have them installed for all my remote-users and no complaints.

They have a Fair Usage policy (which I'm willing to bet all ISP's do) - and they don't count any of your downloads between 12am and 4pm - over the last few months I've been averaging about 60GB per month by scheduling Azureus to start at just after midnight and end after running for 16 hours.

My peak-time usage has been around 2GB per month.

I left Plusnet after a year of slow connections, very poor customer support.

I went to IDNet, brilliant ISP.

Just signed my old dears up with Plus.Net a week or so ago, and I must say that their customer service have been excellent and they use a UK call centre without an 0845 / 0870 number :)

There members area of the website is excellent and they answer queries very quickly.

Also they now do a 980 days trail so if you are not happy with the service or speed, just request your MAC and get a full refund of your first three months payments.

All ISP's cap bandwidth in some way. at least Plus are open about it.
#19
the guy on the phone practically was encouraging me to download in off peak times. you will only be throttled if you break the download limit which is 8gb during peak. i will still leave them after 3 months but at least it gives 3 months for virgin to increase their speeds up a bit in my area.

BT Voyager 2091 as far as I know. That's what they describe on their website.

Its also the one my folks use and is really easy to set up. Even comes configured with basic security - WEP I think, but does WPA
#25
As soon as I left Plusnet, my speeds went up dramatically.
#26
i have been with plusnet for 6 years i have two lines with them and i take pleasure in using them fully off peak, never had a problem but this might be worth it just for the freebies.
i have thought about the other offers though i can get 16meg i think thru be.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure that once you have been given your MAC code you have 30 days to switch ISP otherwise your current ISP will be terminated.
#28
I was with Plusnet and have migrated to another ISP. Dont forget that Plusnet charge your around £30 for the pleasure of giving you a MAC code, which is pretty shocking but now most ISP's (excluding BT) do this.

If your migration code isnt used within 30 days it becomes null and void, and your connection continues with them until a migration request is given (with a valid code).
#29
Just to note, on the current broadband options plusnet consider peak time to be 8am until 12am.. I will be leaving them soon, as I'm moving house and planning to get Be Unlimited.
#30
plusnet DONT charge you for your MAC, in fact i think its ilegal for any company to charge you for it now, If you have ben with them a while you may have deffered you modem and conection fees and if you havent stayed with them long enough you are laiable for this.

Also once you have ben given your MAC you have 30 days to use it, if you dont use it it simply expires and you stay with them or request another,

been with plusnet for couple of years and al though had some problems with disconections, they did loads to sort it out.

No caps or throttling here from them but then im on PAYG with free downloads from midnight till 8am (guess when i download most of my stuff)

Just out of interest did anyone else get any months free or a free router?

Shortly after this was first posted, gave them a call and didn;t get anything (they also said "your MAC code will be emailled to you" but never came LOL).

Just logged a ticket for the MAC code, shall see what happens next.

I was with PlusNet for 5+ years. Watched the service go down the toilet, bandwidth drop through the floor, email server outages, lack of response from tech support and finally have their email server hacked and all names stolen resulting in 50+ spam emails a day... and for this I was paying £21.99pm.
Now with Sky, paying £5pm for 40Gb p/m download (which is easliy 2x 3x the speed of PlusNet) and use the other £17 to pay for Sky itself.
If you have or are thinking of getting Sky - think twice about PlusNet. Do not listen to their stories of being one of the best ISPs in the country. They are living on old claims to glory. I'm sure the cynics will say "oh no" "I've heard etc" but for me it's rock solid and 3x the speed of +Net.

Oh, plus I got a free wireless router from Sky too

Just remembered.. after I left I received about 15 demands for payment over the next 3 months ending with various threats. Emailed them and put info on the forum about a dozen times threatening to send the junk mail to the press and they eventually stopped..

Just done a speed test on my link and am getting 7Mb where as I never got over 5Mb with PlusNet. Same hardware, link, PC etc. PlusNet do throttle no matter what they say.
