PNY 16GB Micro SD Memory Card - Class 10 - £16.99 @ Play (See Note)

£16.99 @ Play.Com
Cheapest I've seen for a Class 10 Micro SD card, I think it is even cheaper than the cheapest Class 10 SD card at the moment. (Members are reporting these coming unbranded and slower so beware)

hi mate, i tried to post this the other night, but was taken off straight away by the mod, she has explained that this was posted before (i'll dig out the link in a mo) and ppl who ordered has received non branded sdhc cards, and not sure if they are genuine.
#3
Well i have just ordered one this morning seeing that it will be dispatched within 24 hours (it was a couple weeks before) so I'm hoping they received the correct branded stock.

I got one of these from Play. But is does not even say PNY on the card just has 10 on it also no branding at all on the packaging. To be fair this was the type of thing i would have expected from deal extreme and not Play.com

update: I was going to use a HEX editor to have a look at the card to see who made it. But the card has died anyway.
phone play and told them its a counterfeit card. now going to send back and await a refund

When it comes to memory cards and usb sticks I find that in 6 - 9 months you could have got double the memory for the same price. :(

Repost for the 3rd time.

I got one last time which arrived unbranded, when I tested it I only achieved 6mbps write speeds. Sent it back for a refund.

SHI*! I was just told that item has been despatched, if I get it unbranded I'll ask for refund straight away
#11

#12
Isn't it illegal for them to do this?

I would hold on as many unbradned are actually BETTER than PNY. The only TWO Memory cards (4Gb CF card) that I had stop working were PNY cards and that was only after a few months.

Got diddled with this one - received unbranded card and they hadn't even bothered to scrape off the "made in China" label. Works with Samsung Wave but 720p movies skip because of slow performance from this class 2 memory card. Not happy.

Their email says great deals on class 10 cards!

I'm seriously tempted though. But sending back is a PITA!

I think their warehouses staff are incompetent idiots... I've received the wrong printer cartridge 4 times from them before, and the wrong model mouse.

It's just not on.

I emailed Play.com asking whether or not their Sandisk 8gb cards are actually class 4 or not and this was their response:

I ordered this 10 days ago when it was showing "Dispatched in 4-5 days"...3 days later, it had changed to "Dispatched in 1-2 weeks". I took that as an omen and cancelled the order...ended up buying a 16Gb Sandisk class4 instead.
#18
I ordered one of these over a week ago at this price, came with no brand so sent it back. :( was worried it would be one of those cheap copies.

Ordered a sandisk 16gig at £14.99 class 4 instead. That came today and I can confirm it is an original.

Watch out for Play sending you cheap unbranded rubbish. I never thought I would say that about Play but have now had 2 problems with orders with them in the last week. And this isn't even a seller account it's direct from Play...not good.

They also cancelled my Xoom order this week after having taken the money for it 3 weeks ago.

after this has happened i have lost faith in play.com. Playtrade was giving them a bad name in my opinion. But for play to sell counterfeit item is BAD. Someone who i work with told me that they had counterfeit sennheiser headphones from Play too he did get his money back but still not good.

Well I ordered this card a few weeks back and although it doesn't have the PNY logo it certainly runs fine and way above the 10Mb class 10 rating when I benched it.
(That said I was getting poor speed at first but once I had re-formatted it in FAT32 with cluster size of 32Kb it flew like sh1t off a shovel :-) )
Has been working happily in my HD2 DUAL booting WP7 (NAND) and 10 different Android builds from this very SD.

i have got my card working after i corrupted it.(low level formated it then formated as you state (32kb)
Test result:Test finished without errors.
You can now delete the test files *.h2w or verify them again.
Writing speed: 8.50 MByte/s
Reading speed: 10.9 MByte/s
H2testw v1.4
so this card really is a class 10 although not a great one.

Well not really, a true class 10 should have a minimum write speed of 10Mb/s and in my experience proper class 10's write somewhere around 15Mb/s and read 20Mb/s & above.
#23
Terrible. Absolutely terrible.

Order, came, no brand.

Tried to create partitions for my HTC Desire (FAT32 first, 1GB EXT3 at the end) and it just wouldnt stick, kept as FAT32.
It worked once then corrupted. Sent it back for a refund.

When it did work, it was just below 10mb/s, which is sub par for a class 10. It should be sustained write above 10mb/s.

Has anyone apart from the one poster above received a PNY branded micro SD? I cannot believe it that Play.com would go and tarnish their reputation by sending out unbranded stuff.

PNY on the other hand are well known for their 'sourcing' of memory products opposed to manufacturing it themselves

E.g. Samsung actually manufacture their memory and then sell it on...

however you get so many chinese factories that also manufacture memory that ends up failing - probably where PNY sourced it from
#25
Great stuff!!!

Need a new card so have ordered. Having experienced their (ahem) so called 'customer service' in the past, i'm not a fan of play.com but the memory card certainly is cheap. Interested to read the above discussion and am curious as to what will actually turn up. Not too bothered about it looking exactly like the photo but as a minimum, l do expect it to perform to the Class 10 standard. As for how long it will last once the guarantee runs out, compared to a premium brand? It is very cheap and you pays your money and takes your chance.
#27
If the price is same as a branded class 6 card, then its worth returning back, as I already had a similar case before when a card I bought on ebay worked flawlessly for a few months then dropped dead and was useless.
#28
Unbranded but seems to be running well in excess of Class 10 Rating 140x read 90x write
Seems to be next to no manufacturer info available?

They've gone fake again. I recevied mine a couple of days ago. Plain see throuygh packaging, no adapter, no pny branding or any branding of any kind on the card or the packaging. write 5mbs read about 6 mbs.
#34
Ok, so I ordered a class 4 32gb, which had pny logo on the adapter.and not the card. Furthermore the write speed was around 1 mb. So im sending that back.

I ordered this, qnd although im getting 15mb+ write speed there is.no pny logo on the card - is this one also a fake?
