Play.com have the cheapest name brand 2GB laptop memory that I can find in the UK. It works fine in my EEE PC 1000H and ihas made a noticeable mprovement running Vista Premium.

I find Vista Premium with 2GB quicker than XP with either 1GB or 2GB. 1GB was a bit too slow opening some apps in Vista but 2GB works great.

This is great for the EEE because it only has one Sodimm slot.

Would this work on a Dell Inspiron 6400? Great spot, voted hot.

Yep. I've actually got a pair in mine. DELL's site will tell you it'll only take 2GB max - but a pair of 2GB sticks works perfectly.

(note that Windows shows around 3.2GB of Memory - you lose 800MB for technical reasons, which I assume is why DELL tell you not to use more than 2GB...)

Any use for the Wind?

Yes, it will work fine.

Good find on the stick's
Though it might make Vista run a little faster, I dont think it will change peoples perception much that Vista is an improvement on XP - most people I know have switched back to XP or are boycotting it altogether, waiting to see what MS bring out in 2010 (or earlier if the rumours are to be believed)

I've got an Acer Aspire 9423Wsmi laptop which can take another 2Gb - would this be suitable for it?

I don't know how to find out.

It's suitable.

They way to "find out" is to look at the original specs for your laptop - they say it takes DDR2, so this DDR2 will work just fine.

Laptops usually come with 2 memory slots - so if you have a single 2GB in there, you can just plug this right alongside. But if you have a pair of 1GBs, you'll obviously have to ditch one.
Having said that, it's good practice to run your memory in matched pairs (to eliminate compatibility problems, and activate Dual Channel mode) - so I would just buy a pair of these sticks, and replace whatever is already inside your machine.
