SLOOOWWWWWW. OK for most phone applications but poor if using it for video.

Although Play.com don't state this card's speed rating, you could be forgiven for thinking - from one of the customer reviews and the stated speed of the 4gb PNY card Play sell - that this is a Class 4 card (ie minimum 4mb / sec transfer speed). Sadly it's not, it's a Class 2 card and while it meets the Class 2 spec it is actually slower than the Nokia card that came with my 'phone. Write speeds in particular are a bit sluggish. There's nothing wrong with the card and it's decent value at this price, but if speed is important you might be better off with a faster card for a couple of pounds more.

Bought one of these at the previous price £9.99. Didn't work though, had to return it.

Could anyone recommend a faster card for similar price?

There was a class 4 at Mymemory recently for about a tenner and a Transcend class 6 on Amazon for £13.49

I always love descriptions like "The Micro SD is the smallest flash memory technology card in the world. About one-fourth the size of a standard SD card..."; trying to sell me the card by impressing me with how small it is. Either it fits the slot on my phone or it doesn't!

Been waiting for 16gb to come under a tenner! Thanks anyway

Been waiting for 32Gb to come under tenner x3! Thanks anyway

Unless you're trying to watch 1080p video this should be okay. It might take a while to fill that 8GB though.

To clear what's posted in the first post. The 8GB PNY MicroSD cards were Class 4 and made by Toshiba. I ordered 4 of them at the start of the year, they lacked any kind of PNY branding on the card. They had extremely good read speeds (20MB/s+) along with good random access times and Write speeds of 8-10MB/s. These were the same OEM cards which Kingston used, so were very cheap. PNY along with Kinsgton have switched to another supplier, so they are now class 2.

Also remember Class only refers to Write speed, not read speed.

Good info Bluespace77.

Weiran, Just to clarify my vague comment I was talking about its poor write performance (for use in video cameras) not playing back movies. This is also a consideration if using it for backup/portability and you dont like hanging around waiting for a file copy to complete.

i got an rma atm with a 16gb from play, i will never buy pny again

I have mixed experience with PNY: a 16G SD is still going strong after 1 year, while an 8GB MicroSD is DOA. The CS is helpful and has it replaced. But it is based in France (you need to send it back in your cost).

If you bought if from Play - its up to them to replace/refund and pay the postage costs if the item is defective.
