Currently saving for two of these for my system to replace my 640mb 8800GTS :)
Think I will wait for the price to drop abit thou.

Why voting cold? Cant get any cheaper for this card atm.

EDIT: Seems people voting hot now :D
#2
Very good deal, the same card is £414.36 over at ebuyer who are generally one of the cheaper retailers.
#3
Cold votes are probably because "it's just a graphics card" and you can get a graphics card for £20.

AKA people who don't know what they are on about :P
#4
It's not needed except for extreme gamers and enthusiasts really.
#5
Errr... so there is a need then?!

Im not voting but I wouldnt buy one as a 8600GT does me fine though is the "weak link" in my quad core pc with 4 gigs of OCZ ram but thats because the most demanding games I play are WOW and CS Source others bore me.

not even gods machine could run crysis on full settings!

well alot of Pcs can run it on full settings, just at 1 frame per second :p

Whats a dual width pci-e slot?

Whats a dual width pci-e slot?

There's no such thing as a dual width pci-e slot. They simply mean that the cooler on this card is so thick that it will block the next slot over so that it will be unusable.
#12
Ah I see, but how would the 1st poster, nerner run 2 in sli then. Would he need a mother board with 3 pci-e slots?
#13
Looks like a "good deal" but I seriously dont understand why people pay so much for these things. The more people buy them the more the software companies (who are most likely in cahoots with the card manufacturers) will bring out these games to force you to upgrade. Im a very keen gamer but I would rather stick to my 360 or probably buy a PS3 which will have software made that will ALWAYS work on it without having to sell my house!

IMHO these are simply for bragging rights which PC people seem to revel in.. e.g ryouga above who could not help but tell us his current specs which, good for you, they seem nice, but I couldn't really care as I only use my triple quad core with 28gb RAM and NVIDIA 10150GTI superhot MAX-Card920b with Brevel 340 ultra teasmade attachment, to surf sites like these!!! :0)

Like I said tho, respect to the OP, £100 off a card is a good deal...... but wait till Crysis 2 comes out and this card (which wont power it anymore!!) wil be £10.25...... you have been warned!!

Boards which support SLI will leave a decent gap between the PCIe x16 slots that are used for SLI cards so you can use dual width cards.

They’re useful for people that have a 30” monitor so that they can play games at high resolutions.
#17
if you spend this much you should realise..

1) you are subsidising people at the other end of the market (like me :). essentially mnfrs recoup their huge R&D costs through their top end products, because they all cost much the same to make.

2) price drops are quick and severe at the top end. for example, i bought a 8600GT for £70 a year ago and its still.. about £60.. so i don't feel hard done by. if you buy this you must expect people to be getting the (or equivalent performance) for 1/2 the price in a few months and 1/4 in a year.

so ok.. if you're rich and are going to be using it a lot in near future go for it, but don't save for something like this imho.
the point may have already been made but you can almost buy an xbox360 AND a ps3 for this much money and have them for years..

EDIT: Erm...that's wrong isn't it? Plants need carbon dioxide...that'll teach me to be a smart-a*se!

My motherboard has 2 PCI-E slots for SLI. My 8800GTS card is a dual slot card and I can fit two in my case.

With 2 of these cards it would be a Quad-SLI. This graphics card has two GPUs in it. So my PC would be running 4 GPUS :D
Tests already show just one can run Crysis on Extra High settings no problems :D
banned#21
Voted hot on the premise the price is very good and extremely competitive.
Definitely will play Crysis on high settings, shame AA is such a ****** to have high.
On that premise the card is still hot, but losing heat lol
But then you can wait for ever for graphics to catch up to software.

Great spot!!! Too poor to buy it, well, not frivolous enough with my money, but kudos to you.
#22
because 1gb of ram costs a few quid and the manufacturers of any old card can stick however much ram they want on a poor card for a few quid extra to get people to buy them

Much slower.
People just look at the memory and think its enough like this one has 1GB. This is also DDR2 not DDR3 like the 9800 GX2.
You need to look at clock speeds, pixel processors, shaders and other factors. But if your not into games, music video production software then I guess that card is fine :)

Voted Hot and rep added but its still alot of money to dash out for a card. my 7800gts has seen me through almost every game including crysis so no reason for a new card as of yet. For more info on these cards try www.FUDZILLA.COM

You're pretty much spot on there, playing at 2560x1600 requires a lot of video horsepower and this is the type of card to provide it. I have to say I think this is a very reasonable price given it's actually two cores, if I was spending more time on PC gaming and not cameras (which make this graphics card look cheap!) I'd definitely be considering one.

AT have just put their writeup on the site:

lets all waste £300 on a card that will be half that in 8 months because another new one is out...lol
#29
Good price for a 9800 GX2, but you really need to be nuts/real minority to buy one of these. That is with what is currently on offer on the gfx market.
Personally would not buy one on principle. That is Nvidia is asking too much for this, even for what it is.

In turn the performance will be proportionately lower as well, if you want the fastest performance now this is the card and even though it may be overtaken by another card in a few months time, this graphics card will still offer strong performance for a long time yet. I have a couple of flagship cards from a couple of generations ago and they're still running well, if I'd bought a cheaper card from that generation it's likely I would have had to replace it once, if not twice by now and still probably not been any better off in terms of money or performance.

You pay a lot of extra money for a little bit of extra performance, but for people who enjoy that performance margin, it's a fun, if expensive hobby to keep up with these things.

This deal is hot, on the basis that it's 25% less expensive than most of the competition, for the same thing, no compromises.

Yours is a perfectly reasonable argument, but if (some) PC gamers weren't spending this kind of money, your Xbox would have been more expensive. It's the early adopters that subsidise the cost of designing these things, and not just for the budget market, but for the cards that end up in consoles as well.

Idiot.
#32
Why do people with no knowledge of graphics cards comment on the quality of the deal. You just look like tits. People spend £3000 on a camera because they enjoy the hobby, does that make them mad. The higher up in money you go the smaller the gains for your money, thats true with most things. New tech costs alot of money. This is a good deal if you want the best GFX card. If you dont want one or have a clue what you are talking about just p*** off basically.
#33
Its way over priced for the average user, but then again, it's not a card currently directed at the 'average' user.
This is, as previously mentioned, for those that like to live at the cutting edge of technology & performanace, the enthusiasts, the boy racers who 'soup up their cars' but on a PC instead.

Don't forget, their is a sizeable number of professional gamers out there, that need the extra FPS just to get a little advantage over the competition.

Bundle with a NForce N790i Ultra chipset motherboard (capable of 3x SLI at 16x PCI-E) and you have got one of the meanest grpahics monsters around (6 cores, 3GB of video memory) and if, you've forked out for that lot (~£1200), you will have easily chosen other top quality components too.

Anyway, price wise, yes this is a hot deal (even though PNY are not the 'best' graphics cards producers around).

IMHO, the camera is going to depreciate less than the GFX card. A £3000 camera still has the ability to take stunning photos in 5 years time, this GFX card will need upgrading at some point.
Horses for courses, no-one spends this money to make HUKD look better. You buy this card coz A. you're a hardcore gamer with pale skin and no life in the real world B. you have too much money or C. you have a small manhood.

It's very good value for this particular model. Far better than some of the other over-expensive shops that had them for pre-order 1-2 weeks ago for £450.

Very stereotypical of you
I have a nice tan I think for this time of year :p

Crysis on high - 30-35fps on my 8800gts. Playable and looks brilliant!

I get about 22fps on very high with my 8800 GT. Still not really playable though, although 9800 this should do a fair bit better provided you don't turn on AA according to a few reviews.

Probably not worth the price just yet though, but if you have to be at the front of the queue on upgrades I guess this is good.

I know, it was said very tongue in cheek but it's gets so childish on here at times I couldn't resist. If you aren't into spending this kinda money on GFX cards, why even read the thread??

dont worry I took it as a joke :)

Alot of people on here vote cold or give people **** feedback because its not something they are interested in, think its a waste of money or what ever reason.
Just gets annoying when a good deal gets voted cold for no reason... If you dont no about graphics cards or pcs or what ever dont vote and move on.. :)

It's not just this deal, soooo many deals go cold before they go hot. How many deals have the first few comments saying "why the cold votes". Either people go round clicking cold on every deal just the hell of it (they probably also go around kicking cats) or the system is setup for things to go cold unless someone keeps adding heat?? Who knows but like you say it's annoying and has affected some deals I have posted.
We digress....
