PNY Optima 240GB SSD - PC World (ebay) £59.99

2.5" SSD drive - 240GB capacity. I know it's not the fastest in its class but seems like a good deal given that the equivalent entry level Sandisk and others are around £40 for half the capacity.

Yes you certainly would. I put 2 SSD's in my 4 year old dell on RAID 1. It also has 8GB and a 3Ghz Intel Quad core.
I reinstalled Win7 64bi and now it flies along. Put a 1TB drive in as data storage and backup drive.
Well worth doing.

just bought the samsung evo 840. Looked at both and the read write speeds were much better for the sammy, hence why this is way cheaper.

This will speed up an old pc but I was looking to put it in a new laptop on windows 8 so wanted to get the best upgrade I could in terms of performance.

Indeed just switched from Win7 on HD to Win8 on SSD and things fly along. File scanning processes in particular really zip. Much recommended.
