A good way to offer new life to the penultimate P4 machines.

A boon for any owner of these machines being unfortunate enough to use vista.

#6

Hi.

I've got a Dell Dimension 1100  ; I've gone on to Crucial.com and it looks like I could put two of these in.

Can a 'pro' give me the nod before I fork out £35 sheets at Play please.

I appreciate the help....

Hi, yeah that RAM is fine for that unit, only I can just find that the board only supports a maximum of 1GB, so it wont run 2GB's of DDR DIMM memory.

that's what i could find anyway

Hi. Thanks for the reply.

Is that definite as Crucial.com suggests I can fit two?

if its your original board that was in that dell unit when you received it, well the information I found states the max board support for that mainboard is 1GB.

but... there isnt any reason why you couldnt send the other one back if it didnt work.

Hope this helps.

Nice one - as you say, I can always send the sealed packet back.

Thanks again....

I once used some sort of online facility that scanned your pc, told you how much memory you had and how much space you had for more - and exactly what sort of memory you needed. Does anyone know where I can find this again, my own memory is a bit dodgy! I've got an old Time machine thats not listed on Mr Memory and its as slow as a dead dog - I'm hoping a bit of memory may help to perk it up a little. Before you ask, yes I'm too lazy to open the machine and look - actually thats not strictly true, my backs playing up and scrabbling around on the floor fills me with dread....

I've just scanned the machine, and got the info from Crucial, then phoned Mr Memory for a price and they have given me completely conflicting info... oh well, looks like I'll have to scrabble on the floor anyway....

Can you swap a PC2700 300mhz for this model? I've always bought like for like but was wondering if a PC3200 at 400mhz can replace my old chip that's in at the moment?
#25
use the crucial scanner as posted above.

also use "belarc advisor" to get a web page with full specs for your pc - very useful.

I got 2 of these 1gb sticks for my laptop earlier this year: http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3317272/PNY-PC2700-1GB-333MHz-DDR-200pin-SODIMM-Laptop-Memory/Product.html they were more expensive a few months ago but a lot cheaper than anywhere else, still carnt think of anywhere that sells DDR1 cheaper
#27
The answer to my question is yes, you can swap PC2700 for PC3200. I have a Dell GX270.
Thanx for the link to www.crucial.com as it gave me a memory spec test that very extremely helpful

Can anyone advise if this memory would be suitable for a Fujitsu Scenic E600 Intel P4 2.8GHz PC (Slimline)

Update - right have just found out that it is compatible, however, the Max Memory states 1GB DDR400* - * 2GB (DDR400) with future memory modules.

What does "* 2GB (DDR400) with future memory modules." mean - is the max 1Gb or 2Gb?

Max is 2Gb, i.e., 2x 1Gb modules - see here, & quoting from there - "Each memory slot can hold DDR PC2700, DDR PC3200 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.* "

However, the PDF manual says a max of 2Gb DDR333 (PC2700), or 1Gb DDR400 (PC3200). My doubt is whether it'll take more than 1Gb of PC3200 RAM (the type of RAM posted in this thread), or even a single 1Gb PC3200 module. So, this PNY module may not be compatible at all. But a BIOS update if available (bit of a risk involved), may just do the trick.

As there are conflicts between the two above - your best bet is to contact Fujitsu & enquire about this.
