you can put it on top of the laptop but doing that wont improve the performance, it also reduces the portability of your laptop as it weighs about 2 kilos and 24 cm long. This card uses 550 watts so your laptop battery will probably last 10 mins max. sell ya laptop and get a desktop gaming pc

Very impressive card and a good price!
I need a new card for FFX IV out soon, but not sure if my pc would handle/benefit from it. its kinda aging.
#5
will this fit inside a vostro 430 ?
banned#6
This is undoubtedly better than the 470 I found yesterday on OCUK, voted hot :)
#7
pretty much just use these on desktop pc cant really upgrade a laptop with a full size pci card
#8
so if i brought any laptop and shoved this in, it would be able to play games?
(regardless of the portability and battery life)
#9
You cant fit this in a laptop..This is PC only. For one thing this is huge, 2nd thing there is no slot
#10
no , you could never do this , its for a desktop pc , laptops are not for games unless you spend at least £1000 and even then its silly it needs to be a desktop pc
banned#11
I'd argue that a little Sam, ,after all the M11x and m15x are both easily able to cope with the latest PC graphic rich games and yes ok they cost the earth, but the point is, you can game on them and they do it better than a lot of desktops.
#12
i agree , yep there is gaming laptops but i just mean in comparison money to performance ratio desktop always wins in terms of value

Are you trolling?

not only the pci express you have to factor in the size of the card, whether the power supply has enough wattage and whether its worth upgrading the computer.

Yeh, why do they do this?
#19
PC graphics cards still baffle me, twice the price they should be for people that don't like to play a lot of games. :(
#20
I'd spend the money on a console.

On a more serious note; capable card, but too HOT and too power hungry. Search around and find an over-clocked GTX 460 for around £20-£25 less.

some gamers like playing games in actual HD :) rather than upscaled

I personally have a PC and all three consoles, but something special about actually playing games in 1900x1200 with 4xAA or so - looks quite different than a game on a console playing at a native 600p or so upscaled

How is it confusing? Do you want a card just for movies and web browsing along with a bit of office etc? If so then your looking at the wrong end of the graphics industry.

Look here: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/512MB-Asus-HD-4670-PCI-E-20-%28x16%29-1800MHz-GDDR3-GPU-750MHz-320-Cores-D-Sub-DL-DVI-I-HDMI
Or here:http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/512MB-Sapphire-HD-5450-PCI-E-21%28x16%29-1600MHz-GDDR3-GPU-650MHz-80-Cores-D-Sub-DL-DVI-I-HDMI

Both are great media cards, the former is able to play most games on low/medium graphics aswell!.

And @ momo69, you cant compare it to a console.... the graphics power from this card is probably atleast 15x more than the 360/ps3, the quality in visuals is great on a pc and just look at crysis haha. These last longer than consoles anyway, ive gone through 6 xbox 360's in 2 years where as my pc hasnt had a single component fail in 4years. Cost me more initially (by about £150) but has lasted longer and be more useful.

The games that I want to play in actual HD are only on consoles ;P It's just a shame that to be able to play PC exclusive games nicely you need a piece of equipment more expensive than an entire games console., let alone the rest of the setup if you don't already have it. I suppose they assume that if you're going to want to play Starcraft 2, Total War etc, you have a few grand to spare on games because you're so clever and highly paid.

I'm not saying that I only want it for movies and web browsing, I was saying that if you're an exclusive PC gamer and want a blistering fast card it's weird because you can't like games that much. I was kind of joking, but there isn't really that much of a choice in games on the PC any more. You can play Modern Warfare 2 in 4 times the framerate that your eyes can see or play some select games that were designed for consoles but play them in a much higher resolution.

...and it's totally wasted. There's no real PC exclusives, let alone ones that need that power and make you go wow, I must have that!

Back on topic though, good price for the card, til in 3 months time there's another card that can play MW2 at 15% higher framerate and this gets £70 knocked off it.

I wish this graphics card was branded with a CG Anne Robinson, Terry Wogan or Jeremy Vine for the different speeds in the range.

Phoenix speaks the truth - just make sure its the 1 gig model you pick up, and they all seem to overclock well.

Then you've obviously never experienced the superiority of desktop gaming vs consoles.

Oh right, because the human eye can clearley distinguish the difference between framerates that are above 60fps amirite?

Also, if you spent this amount of money on a gfx card you'd be daft to waste it on ugly games like CoD. Even WoW on ultra looks a damn site better than MW2.

Grab yourself a newer i7 with this then crank up BFBC2 to ultra and begin to drool I say! :3

It will be tight in a Vostro 430. You'd need a bigger power supply for it aswell.

Scares me off, better if it was branded "Death Frag Ultimate" card.
Might be interested then.

bit weird that its not HDCP Ready, making bluray a pain to configure.

I managed to fit a Radeon 4870 in my Vostro 430, which must be similar in size (check first), but you'd need to upgrade the power supply considerably from the ones Dell supply.

yes it would immediately start playing games all by itself...and in fact it would be quite good at it...probably better than the owner

im pretty sure you wouldnt get this into a laptop . i think its the same size as my ati 5850xxx card which is pretty big.

pc gaming is much different to consoles in that its visually better BUT you need to spend to get that. i like that games are mch cheaer though

still keeping my eye out for ps3 and 360 deals though for more local social gaming :D

Because you have been told the answer about 3 times now and have not listened. You are also asking a very stupid question, sorry.

You do realise this graphics card probably needs more power then your entire laptop to run?
Not only that but it probably weighs about the same as half of your entire laptop. The amount of heat this thing puts out would cause the case of your laptop to melt if you somehow managed to encase it. Opening your case would also invalidate your warranty, and probably break your laptop in the process.

These things are for desktops, not laptops, not Macs....DESKTOPS.

Hmm, fair enough but you dont need to spend loads, its what you are willing to spend that matters. Ive had an ati 4850 for about a year and a half, i paid £80 for it and it plays everything i throw at it. Starcraft 2 is on max, dawn of war 2 is good and everything is flawless. Thats a cheap reliable card there but if i had money to pump into a better card i would, bills come first though :D.

PC gaming is cheaper than console gaming when you think about it, pc can be used for a lot of work like CAD/ Audio work and just in general. The games are much cheaper, all hardware works and yeh it costs more initially but it does add up when most games cost £25> and console games are £35+!.

That's what I'm saying, I'm with you. I don't think that the eye can distinguish much higher than 60 and there's a lot of arguement in the subject as to whether it's higher or lower than that. It seems that the framerate is more about the fraction of a second edge it gives you on the input end, but I say if you care that much about winning, it's quite sad considering how many people cheat in these games, nullifying your time, money and effort.
