I bought one of these for my kids and im really impressed. The tablet is smooth, light weight and does every thing a £150 tablet does. Its the same size as the ipad mini.
There are people who bought these on black friday and are trying to sell them on ebay for £100
Not sure if asda have any more but they did have 10" version for £105 and it had 2gb ram when i looked on the box and a larger battery.
Dont be scared of the polaroid name as i dont think they made it.

would you say it's robustly built, average or flimsy?..would have to survive a few knocks...

Specs are pretty good except the Resolution at 1024 x 768. I know full HD are not as cheap as this, but I still you would be better to get a 1200 x 800, or pay the extra for full HD.

I would say that build is average. But display and performance is really good. Camera too is really good. It has MINI HDMI out too. I think you can connect to TV if you have MINI HDMI to HDMI Cable.

We bought both this tablet and the £29 Archos 70b Cobalt in the Black Friday sale...

The first one we tried was the Archos, and that was a mistake... It's slow, and the screen is unbelievably bad... It was so bad that we were really questioning if we should open the Polaroid one, or just return it straight away - yes, it cost 3 times as much, but would that mean that it would be 3 times as disappointing?

I spent ages looking for info about it on the net, but because it had only been released for this Black Friday, there was very little info to be found.

Eventually we decided to bite the bullet, and open it, and from the second we turned it on, it has impressed us! I already have a 2013 Nexus 7, and so far the Polaroid seems to have comparable performance, but with a bigger screen.

I haven't had much time to play around with it, but so far the only thing I have found missing from the Polaroid is it doesn't have a light sensor, so no auto-brightness setting for the screen... Also, the plug that came with ours was faulty, but Asda swapped it over without any problems this morning.

We will see how it stands the test of time, but at the moment I would have to heartily recommend this tablet!

Oh, one more possible issue : because all of the buttons and ports (Micro USB, HDMI and Micro SD slot) are on the top edge (if viewed in portrait) it seems almost impossible to find a case that will fit it! All of the ones I have looked at on eBay and Amazon will cover the volume controls and power button... :( If anyone knows of one that will work, please let me know! Until then, we'll have to make do with a pouch...

Website says:

Bad Points−
Compared to its predecessor, (the Sero 7), Sero 8 memory reduced from 32 to 16Gb and HDMI output removed. Quality of cameras reduced.

Didn't notice the GPS, that's quite powerful factor in this tablets favour - Use it as a satnav.

Im buying for a child - she doesnt go any further than the back garden on her own, so GPS is not necessary.

I think she'll appreciate the higher resolution screen over gps and the cameras.

Hdmi would have been nice, but not a gamebreaker.

Update : we had to take ours back today and exchange it for a new one... My fiancée plugged it in to charge last night, and this morning it was only at 50%. She left it plugged in for a couple more hours, but the battery level kept going down, even though she wasn't using it. In the end, it wouldn't even turn on!

I am hoping that this is just one bad unit... The replacement seems to be running ok, so far at least!
#21
Also, the Tab 8 doesn't have GPS...

Was bought my polariod tab 8 from asda black Friday
The main use of the tablet is really good

But having problems with time it takes to charge
Can be on charge over three five hours it says with less than half charge.
Has or is any one else having similar problems

I bought one of these and thought it was brilliant, until the charger stopped working. However, Asda replaced the charger and that lasted 3 more weeks before that one packed up. In the meantime the battery would discharge by about 70% over 3 days, with no use whatsoever. Sadly I took it back and had a refund - shame as it is great value for money, if only it would work properly.
