You need an extension cable with these to make full use of them.

They are great for working with cars at your house in the dark - and 500 Watts gives masses of light. They also take 300 and 150W bulbs too.

Also used it at a friends party outisde last summer - where it lit the entire back of the house as direct light from it was too dazzling.

Indeed, I had a roll of spare 3core power cable, cut off 15m, wired the plug and backbox myself, took 5mins with a screwdriver and some scissors :)

In case there's one local ...for 49p more you can also get this from Screwfix for £6.99 !

£6.99 appears to be the normal price for this ...so perhaps the Woolies one isn't that much of a bargain.

I’m going nowhere, Lynn. Quite literally, I’m on the ring road. Third time round. I’ve just been into Woolworths for a portable tungsten halogen floodlight. Never gonna use ‘em....Never gonna use ‘em. Meet me in the car park in half an hour, Lynn. :p

I think mine was about a tenner - but when I look at the picture here the guard at the front is wire - whereas on mine it is sold cast aluminium frame.

Here is a list of similar ones available...

Are these more like spotlights, with a beam, or will they light up a whole (small) garden?

It should light up a garden but dazzle you while doing so, as mentioned above, deflected lighting off these is more sensible/likely.

Yes i use screwfix lights like this for video film lighting. Works extremely well in fact and much cheaper than proper studio lighting :-)
