I have no idea what Aldi stuff is like as I have only shopped there once or twice years ago. A new store has opened in Bedford now so I may well give them a go again. As for things like this I am not sure of the quality but have never read anything bad so would assume they are good for the money. It does seem you get quite a bit for your money with this so thought it was worth a post.

Keep them entertained on the move with these slimline portable screens.

* High resolution 7'' Slimline LCD TFT Display
* Playback formats – DVD, DivX, VCD, MPEG4, CD, CD-RW, MP3, JPEG
* USB Interface and SD/MMC Card Reader
* Contrast Ratio 300:1
* Select from wide screen or full screen view
* Front Loading DVD Mechanism
* Built-in Stereo Speakers or listen with the 2 sets of earphones included
* Earphone Jacks
* Locking mechanism

Accesories Package:

* Remote control
* Car adaptor
* Mains adaptor for DVD unit
* Din type AV connection cable
* Headrest brackets
* All in one carry bag
* 2 sets of earphones

As Anon has bought one it has been reported that it comes with a built in rechargeable battery giving around 2 hours usage and the model is a Tevion model 43244. Thanks for that Anon.

Ditto. I think I will just buy on Sunday and find out for myself. It'd be handy if they play avi's too. If kept then it would get it's first proper test on the way to Cornwall a week today, keep the daughter entertained on the long drive.

If you mean where I mentioned Lidl by mistake then I've changed that. Was that what you meant?

Yes. Have some heat.

would definitely be interested if there was a bit more info regarding the manufacturer

I've not bought a DVD player from Aldi, but there's usually no quibble on an electrical item refund if it's broken and you've got your receipt within the warranty period. Voted Hot. Good price.

(personally, this would be no use to us as my boys can NEVER agree on what they want to watch, so they have one screen each to avoid arguments!!)

I've nearly bought these type of things a few times, but I'm a bit worried how safe they are in an accident. Having something very smashable right in front of their faces just doesn't seem right.

doesnt your car have seatbelts?

i'm pretty sure the screen is not glass, plus they're securely attached to the headrest and wouldnt come off.

Quite right - and you always make sure your family wears clean underwear just in case they are involved in an accident don't you? Not that it wouldn't be soiled anyway as you saw a truck just about to smash into the side of your car at 70 mph!

That has got to be one of the most pathetic replies I've seen. The screen is two feet away from the kids faces - if the impact is so hard it send peices of broken plastic into the faces of rear seat passengers from the broken screen I doubt that there would be anybody in the car left alive to worry about it.

Don't be so wet..

Don't know why you have to be so unnecessarily abrasive towards someone voicing their concern about the safety of their family, even if it is a little excessive. Grow up a bit.

Aldi electricals are usually Tevion or Medion (Tevion for AV stuff and Medion for IT stuff) as far as I'm aware. Seems a decent deal.

I have the luxury of having both Aldi and Lidl within 1 mile of home, and I am always impressed.
Personally, I believe Aldi to have slightly better quality products ( I buy the gadgets etc and the misses buys the food products),we have not bought anything which I don't like or that I didn't think was value for money. More often than not they just can't be beaten on price, especially when you consider that most products come with a three year warranty. A couple of friends have called upon their warranties, and without question the item has been replaced (one being a large screen tv).
I would not hesitate to recommend everyone gives both Aldi & Lidl a try, you shouldn't be disappointed. I have even converted devout M&S and Waitrose customers, who breached their snobish attitudes,and have not looked back.
Value for money 10/10
Product quality (gadgets) 8.5/10
Product quality (food) 10/10
The only negtive thing I have to say about these stores, is that when they have a deal on (like these DVD screens) you have to be first in line on the day. They do have limited stock levels!

I agree with our dave . This car has seat belts and watch the childs head in the back http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKpSbk8B9ok . I always think that these dvd players could cause a nasty facial injury in an accident too.

I just also read people really taking the p for "our dave " saying this and being sarcastic but read this report http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-465212/In-car-DVD-players-kill-child-crash-just-18mph.html . These things can KILL a child at only 18mph !!! So mock him/me all you like and lets hope you never get in an accident with them .

In that case don't have any luggage in the boot or any drinks inside the car in hard containers or any mobile phones loose or in holders or any slot in sat nav's........

Life is all about balancing risks. A boring long (ie 4 hrs plus) motorway trip with younger children can be made easier if they are able to watch a film on the way

Using them all the time for any trip is lazy IMO and I wouldn't want to leave these permanently in the car

Presumably these things must have passed some sort of EU safety legislation to be able to be sold in the first place? How many people have been killed or injured by these things.....

Erm, that headline is a tad more dramatic than the content of the article. No experts interviewed said it could kill the child at 18m an hour. ONE came lose and hit a test dummy in the head. There is no mention of how hard and it definitely doesn't say it would have killed anyone sat there. Caused injury maybe, but not killed.

Typical DM headline.

For what its worth, I think built-in screens look much smarter and are possible to DIY.

thanks will be getting one if i remember

I got the similar twin screen dvd player from Aldi, when it was on offer in 2006. We have used it afew times since then, and it is perfectly watchable. It certainly kept the kids quiet for a few hours on long holiday drives. For this price its a very good deal. I've had no problems with mine over the years, and can recommend the brand, retailer and type of product!

The DM also say in tests that mobile phones and sat navs can cause injury.

Parts of the car can kill. This sort of thinking is silly. There are more things in your home that can injure/kill a child than in a car.

I bought one of these a few years back (older model - but still from Aldi)
Works well and keeps the kids quiet in the back !

not sure if there's any info on here:

It says 'select from widescreen or full screen view'

So are the screens physically widescreen/16:9 then?

Your post is rude and out of order. Someone expresses a reasonable concern over the safety of a child/children and you ridicule them for it? If you think they're worrying over nothing, then explain why and attempt to put their minds at rest, in a civil, grown-up fashion.
#27
Brilliant deal ! If i read it right they are portable as well .
Your concerns on safty issues : -
IF YOU WATCH AND READ CORRECTLY !

1 - The childs head in the youtube video is a foot from hitting the headrest and DOES NOT come in contact with headrest where it the player would be mounted .
2 - The stupid article on killing at 18 mph clearly says "if the player becomes LOSS and catapultes around the vehicle it could kill " which is stupid scumbag journalist hype . Just make sure it is secure when fitted !
3 - If your child is flung forward two feet the seatbelts in the vehicle are defective and the vehicle should not be on the road or the seat belt is being used incorrectly (not worn properly)
Rant over . . . like having a hard backed AA road atlas on the parcel shelf which has been known to decapatate people in an accident !

Gr8 deal, will get them tomorrow (if they are not sold out!)

does it have capability to play two separate DVDs or you can play only one at a time.

nah it is going to be a dvd unit then a slave screen which gets connected to that via a cable.

i dont think it has a battery as previous model manuals dont mention them but that doesn't stop you moving it from one power source to another..ie portable.

I disagree with the term portable in this instance. That's like saying your microwave oven, desktop computer, fridge freezer etc are portable because they can be moved from one power source to another. That would make virtually every product in your home portable if that were the case. The term portable is generally used when the product in question has it's own built in power source and can be moved from one location to another without interruption to it's function.

More to the point, has anyone actually bought one this morning....if so, what's it like?
#34
I have just checked as bought one this morning and it contains its own built in rechargeable battery giving two hours of viewing. With the USB/memory card connection this is a good deal.

Support is on http://www.quesh.co.uk at http://www.quesh.co.uk/DVD_Players/43244_Twin_Screen_DVD_Player.

Hope that this helps.

I know it doesn't list AVI but sometimes these sort of units will play them without being specified. Just wondered if it might play them via usb or sd card.
