Yeah this is actually self-promotion. The op has now spammed the forum with dozens of the same messages; choice highlights include:
"Thanks op"
"Great! Thanks!"
and my favourite...
"Brillian! Thanks" (posted 30 odd times)

Looking at the WHOIS it looks like Technology Recycling Solutions may be behind this:

Wow just Wow :|

Not sure if op is srs!

One of the worst deals I have ever seen on here.
What an astonishing rip-off. It is actually quite sad that people with little knowledge of PC's will buy these thinking they are getting a good deal. And there was I complaining when people posted £300-£400 15" laptops based on netbook processors!
Looks a bit like self promotion to me - he's only been a member 14hrs, so joined to post this deal.

Amusingly, it's backfired as ppl on here know their stuff when it comes to a bargain.

This thread will only serve to highlight their offerings as being stupendous rip offs!

You sure about that? How comes you can install Lion as 32 bit on VMware fusion, I have personally had an old Macbook sat on my desk with all power management switched off and it stayed switched on for a full working day.

I'll agree on the graphics chip, complete rubbish for running games - perfect for using a portable computer though.

Poor buy?, find a warranted Apple laptop for less or shush now :)

It will happily run in 32 bit mode as long as you have a 64 bit processor. You can run 64 bit OSX processes on a 32 bit EFI with a 64 bit cpu running a 32 bit kernel no problem. The reverse is not true and since 32 bit Finder was stripped out of Lion after DP1 you are stuck.

I have a Mac Mini 1,1 which came with a CoreDuo 1.66GHz processor. It would not install Lion. I swapped it out with a C2D 2.0GHz cpu and installed via Firewire from a supported Mac Book Pro. One plist deletion later and it runs and accepts updates. You cannot do that with the MacBooks or more recent Mac Minis.

I have a MacBook 2,1 still running and I don't buy the all day with no power saving enabled. Sorry. Even Apple never claimed more than 6hrs and realistically only up to 3.5hrs with Airport switched on, which tallies with my experience.

The price is not that special, really. £25 more gets you the equally limited MacBook Pro 1,1, but at least that one has a discrete gpu and a larger screen.

This laptop won't allow Lion to install as it lacks Core 2 Duo (note 2) but the installer can be edited so it does.

I know I'll probably get flamed for this, but this is around the same price a second hand Macbook would make on eBay, but you're getting some warranty from these guys, so if you're after a cheap way of getting an Apple computer then it's not as bad as all that. Plus these things can do a genuine 6-7 hours on battery.

It won't run Lion full stop because the CoreDuo is a 32 bit chip and cannot run the 64 bit Finder among other things. No tinkering with the plists will overcome this physical stumbling block. Unlike the Mac Minis, the cpu is soldered onto the motherboard and cannot be upgraded.

The earlier Macbooks never got close to 6-7 hours battery life. More like 3-4 at the very best was my experience. The GMA950 integrated graphic chip is woeful. Warranty notwithstanding, this is a poor buy.

Owned the 2GHZ Core Duo of this for around 6 years. Still reasonable for mail and surfing, but the GMA graphics on this could never support games, however it is now getting a bit long in the tooth even with 2GB of memory. I also have a hackintosh netbook too, so don't listen to the BS that a netbook is faster unless were talking SSD disk access versus no SSD disk access.

Unlikely to see many more patches coming out for Snow Leopard after Mountain Lion, so almost a desupported platform this year. Better investing in at least a Core 2 Duo.

My balanced tuppence and first hand experience.
Why would you?

Well it's not a bad laptop for the price. Considering it has a dedicated graphics card, it makes quite a good choice to anyone playing games/using graphical software. Well if anyone's buying a laptop with a £500 budget, I'd recommend you taking this one. It's quite a nice one for the price given.
Where does it say that it's a refurb?

CJ
Yer i meant to put its refurbished, although its a factory refurb so it should be as good as new in theory??
Tosh laptops are good build quality. Be aware that this is a refurbished unit.

BEWARE an appalling company to deal with in my experience - I tried to buy a refurbished laptop which the website said was in stock and I needed urgently - I paid the extra for next day delivery - two days later nothing. Eventually got through on the phone to find they didn't have it in stock and they were holding my credit card payment (charged AFTER I had cancelled the order) - said it was 'suspected fraud' - didn't stop them from charging my card. Five weeks later I'm still waiting for a refund and they've ignored my emails. Looks like I'm far from the first to have this experience http://uk.local.yahoo.com/Bedfordshire/Dunstable/Software_%2526_Games/1097964092-e-18718.html Avoid like the plague - I doubt they'll be in business much longer - I'm involving Trading Standards and the Small Claims Court / Police.
Knowing how kids use laptops, particularly teenagers who want to use msn, skype, facebook, ebay, myspace, bebo etc constantly, i can tell you right away she'll be frustrated with this laptop pretty much straight away. Main issue with this is the installed RAM, 256MB is simply not enough if you plan to have more than 1 or 2 applications open. This laptop will crawl along until you give it some more RAM. You have bought a donkey, but you can make it usable...

Invest in some memory which is fortunately very cheap!
Thanks for your input everyone im not bothered about being voted cold at all, my intentions were to bring what i thought was a bargin to you all sorry if i was wrong about it but hey its worth a look:thinking: Ive bought thislaptop for my 14 yr old daughter for xmas as her first laptop i wanted something that wouldnt break the bank and she could use easily most refurbs have only 3 months warranty so i thought that was good and it has bluetooth i thought that was good im not very computer savvy so im a bit worried now ive bought a donkey should have posted before i bought
Not worth 199 that's for sure, ultimately this is a used laptop, with a poor spec...
Like the last post my company scrapped these almost 2 years ago. That said they are quite stable but very underpowered compared to laptops now. They are also chunky Monkeys and are not light.
