Pretty Good, but I don't understand why Shift 2 isn't in this deal....

Need for Speed games tend to crash in price, will be sub-£20 in a week or two I would imagine, further devalued by EA's use of online codes

Doubt that very much - not without any newer games in the same genre. (the code helps keep the cost of new games up as worth more than 2nd user).

this is the way i'm buying the game. ordered two copies of wwe from GAME (used the £5 off any order over £30), one for keep and one for trading for portal2.

Plus quidco.

Calculation:

WWE £19.99 x 2 = £39.98 - £5.00 voucher = £34.98 - 6% Quidco cashback = £33 + £4.99 for trade in = £37.99 for WWE & Portal 2

Player complaints
The complaints can be summed up into four categories:

The game is too short at around four hours for a playthrough
There’s expensive DLC content available at launch
The PC version seems to be an afterthought and a port from the console version
The Potato Sack promotion is being viewed as a marketing ploy to get gamers spending more

Can verify this as just done it. Although I think its actually just Crisis 2 £35 trade in so could be done against any game I guess.

A console port? No.... Just no....

Portal 2 looks vastly superior in every way on my Mac (bootcamp) in comparison to the PS3 version. I do agree that its short, but it varies for everyone. The game will take at least 10 hours or so if you complete both coop and story modes.

Most of the complaints probably come from the 360 players who are **** off at M$ for not allowing steam to make the cut.

Anyone wanting the pc version can buy the ps3 version, link steam accounts, use the code, then resell on ebay (providing they have both a ps3 and pc of course). I basically paid a fiver for the game from doing that.

can this be done at any store?
I see at Game's website that they offers a similar offer to trade in Shift 2 and get Mortal Kombat for £4.99, but my wife was at the store today (Surrey Quays) and they refused the offer and asked for £10 extra to trade that.
Has anyone experienced something like this?

1. well I'd like to see where you got 4hours from, ive read and watched in multiple places that game time is much much longer.

the game takes between 10 and 12 hours to get through

http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2011/04/19/review-portal-2/

2. DLC is only for animations and hats etc. nothing game changing

Though the upgrades are fairly whimsical and entirely aesthetic in nature, it seems the availability of day-one DLC has drawn the ire of the PC gaming community. Piled atop other various and sundry complaints (relating mostly to the game's apparent brevity, or that it wasn't developed with the PC as the "lead" platform), a number of Metacritic user reviews have slammed the game for its store, dropping its average user rating down to a measly 5.2. Wow, that's a whole lot of spite for something as innocuous and charming as robot hats.

http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/19/portal-2-has-in-game-dlc-store-ala-team-fortress-2/

3. There is no evidence whatsoever that the pc version is an after thought, valve themselves said somewhere that it was bad code that said the console like messages on the pc version

Why the whinging? Because some PC owners feel their version is actually a port of the PS3 version, complete with “do not switch off your console” messages when saving, and the rather in-your-face paid for DLC available on launch day. It’s not a ‘port’ at all, of course, but you can’t account for everybody. Fancy that.

http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2011/04/20/did-valve-make-good-on-their-promise-with-the-ps3/

4. This entire article is perfect in its explanation of why the potato sack WAS a (good) marketing promotion, but let players get new content on games and let the people who took part got rewarded, including the indie devs that made the games in the first place, with increased sales.

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2011/04/why-complaints-about-valves-portal-2-arg-miss-the-point.ars

Every single on of those complaints has no substance whatsoever, but it is going to happen with a massive contender to Game Of The Year. Portal is an amazing game, just make sure you've played the first one before hand!

You can start again from the start of that stage with your current upgrades etc on Crysis 2 if it has frozen, just go to chapter select.

The way some people have carried on about this (not on here, on Metacritic etc) makes me ashamed to be a gamer.

Where does this entitled attitude come from? Valve treat their customers better than any dev on the planet yet if it's not exactly what certain people were expecting the effort are lambasted. An 8-9 hour single player campaign, plenty of easter eggs for return visits a 6 hour co-op campaign and it's not worth £40 quid! I went to the cinema this week and that cost me £12! - For a 80 minute flick!

The biggest problem Valve have (and I should say i'm a big Valve fan here) is that they set the expectations for Portal 2 with Portal 1.. which was pretty much a free giveaway with the Orange box..

People just expect it to be budget based on that.. had portal 1 not existed though.. portal 2 would never have generated as much excitement.. so it probably would have had to sell for less (try explaining how this is a good game to someone who never played it wihtout showing them it..its hard.. you say you fire coloured circles that you can walk through.. and they just think youve gone mad)

That said.. I'd have easily paid 50 quid for it.

Personally I was a little disappointed with Portal 2. It took me 6 hours to complete the singleplayer (and no I didn't rush, I took my time, even going out of my way to check side areas etc.) and just over 4 to complete co-op with friends. I don't know maybe I'm just smarter than the average person so it took me less time to work out the puzzles but I doubt that as I'm pretty slow, lol. I did find myself feeling rather underwhelmed at the end.

The problem with Portal 2 is that it doesn't really have a replayability factor. So once you've figured out the puzzles once theres no real incentive to do it all over again. Maybe if they had added leaderboards so that you want to go back and try and complete the puzzle faster so you have the quickest time (or something similar), people would go back and replay but right now when your done, your done.

If I'm being honest I don't think its worth £35 at this moment...BUT if they release free DLC as they have been doing with Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead series then I will see it as a worthy investment and therefore well worth it. Problem is theres been talk of them charging for DLC, but those are just rumours and hopefully PC Gamers will get it free as always.

Plus you have to remember.. Valve get EXACTLY the same amount for the game even if you buy it like this.. the retailer buys them from the distributers at the same price..

I think 12 hours entertainment is worth £35 off the bat. To draw 12 hours entertainment out of the cinema for instance you'd be looking a £60 before popcorn. and the rigmarole of finding 6 movies that're actually worth watching.

Everyone is getting obsessed with added value, and no ones really looking at the product to start with anymore. Insular 1 player experiences like Portal and a few other games this gen are getting lost in the multiplayer FPS sea

Why would anyone do that? o.0

Unless you like throwing your money at Micro$oft for DLC then it would be one of the most idiotic things ever.

Completely agree, The Orange Box spoilt us, in terms of value for money it was phenomenal. Unfortunately with Portal 2 i think Valve have underestimated just how little many console gamers look to replay a title like this or will be interested in the extra content that comes out.

I saw that deal and went into my local Game store during my lunchbreak where I was told it was £9.99 with the trade-in onf Shift 2. I had some words with the manager and pointed out the big poster in the window stating £.499 and he backed down and let me have it for £4.99. He was taking down the poster in the window as I left.

Is there a similar trade-in deal for mortal kombat?
#35
I just read this on Gaf...

Went instore to trade WWE AllStars for Portal 2 and he said I couldn't get it for £5 as I hadn't pre-ordered it even though the website never said it had to be pre-ordered?

Anyone else had any difficult in trading WWE + £5 for Portal 2?

Think it might be best to print out the web page and take that with me.

I experienced a similar thing today in 3 different GAMEs. Problem is that although Shift 2 is listed as one of the accepted games to trade as stated on their Point Of Sale offer, the till hasnt been set up to offer Shift 2 at £30 trade in unlike all the other games, it only scans at £21 so they try and charge you £13.99 instead of £4.99 :(. In the first store, the manager refused me the sale as she didnt believe that Shift 2 was included and couldnt find the Point Of Sale leaflet. In the other two stores, they luckily had the offer posters up in the window so I point out to them the error of their ways when they questioned it. Ended up trading 9 copies of MK and Portal 2 on both formats today and managed to flog 4 of them to CEX today for £30/£28 sealed respectively.

The guy in one of the Game stores said he would log a ticket (with head office) to get it fixed so it might get sorted as Shift 2 is defo in the deal.

Failing that..........trade Shift 2 in to HMV for £35 credit and then pay the extra £4.99 and buy it off the shelf for £39.99

crysis 2 plua £4 @ hmv. got crysis 2 for 24 on game this week. makes it 28 quid. but good offer now tho

Got the Game, yesterday, traded Star Wars ....Excellent , Funny,,,a gaming masterpiece....Remember its a Puzzle game, not a first person shooter.....this got sooo much polish of game....and was PS3 version

C'mon at the end of the day Portal 1 was a free game with the Orange Box. It should be DLC. AT LEAST they should have thrown in Portal 1 with Portal 2. 4 hours of gameplay for 40 quid??? Bloody insulting. Why would people say 4 hours if they could not complete it in 4 hours? If i pay 40 nicker for a game I want at least 20 hours single play out of it. I'll buy it when it is a tenner. Even then I'll feel ripped off for only 4 hours play.
