Always worth reading the T&Cs for any contract you are considering entering into

"If you cancel Post Office HomePhone® within six months of any New Line Provision, we may charge you a cancellation fee to cover our reasonable costs. That cancellation fee is set out in the Price List."

    From Price List:
"New Line Provision Cancellation Charge - HomePhone
"If you cancel Post Office HomePhone within six months of any New Line Provision, we may charge you a cancellation fee of £15 tocover our reasonable costs."

So it seems it's JUST a £15 fee to gain the £112.34 worth of new line provision!

I have been on the Post office home phone for over 2 yrs now! Brilliant. No contract, no hassle. Plus you get FREE landlines AND MOBILES to UK, US and canada numbers in addition to Free Landlines over the weekend period. A great deal. I never paid any installation charges, even though BT were asking for it if I went through them. Use O2 broadband and pay quarterly. If in doubt, I'd say go for it!!

Can someone please explain what they class as a BT Line? We had a BT Line … Can someone please explain what they class as a BT Line? We had a BT Line years ago and we then moved to Talktalk so its now on talktalk, the lines a bit faulty as it cuts sometimes so could do with a new line?

Basically your telephone line is classified as either BT or Cable (run by Virgin now). A BT line is an analogue/digital line connected via the copper pipes laid under the streets to the local telephone exchange. These exchanges belong to BT but under competition rules OFTEL forced BT many years ago to allow other communication companies to station their equipment at these exchanges.

Therefore if your telephone/broadband contract is with anyone but Virgin you have a BT line. The line maintenance and repair work will still be done by BT engineers but the analogue and broadband traffic on the line is owned and operated by a secondary company. This could be SKY, TalkTalk, Primus, Orange, O2, etc. etc. So once you honour your minimum length of contract you are free to choose a new company...... and don't forget your Quidco cashback.

I hope this information is helpful.

Why didn't you just get broadband added to your existing PO line?

Please do not do that. It is people doing things like that which ultimately ruin deals for everyone.

This is an amazing offer - I got tied into contract with BT to avoid paying the installation fee, now I'm stuck with a crap provider.

Off topic but do you rate Plusnet? Thinking of moving to them?

The FFTC is fine. But only 40/2 available, not 40/10. Maybe that will change when 80/20 comes along.

Support can be iffy, but you get there in the end through their forum.

You dont need to do this. I was nearing the end of my virgin contract last year. I gave in my 30days notice, then I went on the website through quidco and purchased a package as a new customer and asked for an installation date as the same day as my cancellation. I then phoned customer service to tell them what I did and they made sure that my new order went through and said we will note on the system that you dont need an installation or new box or modem, etc

Signed up in March - fantastic - free line install, £12.25 a month rental, free evening and weekend calls, free calls to mobiles and 40 countries at weekends, free billing! Was with Virgin, so had to get a new number (you can keep old number if with BT), but no sweat!

Received letter - from mid May £4.50 per month add on will give me unlimited UK calls all week. Highly recommended!!!! Use code [removed] to get all benefits.

I entered this code I was given and get all of the features - including "loved ones" - 10 numbers with 10% of all charges. Best thing I ve ever done!

YOU DON'T NEED THAT CODE AS ALL OF THESE BENEFITS ARE STANDARD WITH THE POST OFFICE HOME PHONE AND HAVE BEEN FOR MANY YEARS. LOOKS LIKE THIS GUY WORKS IN A POST OFFICE AND WANTS TO GET PAID COMMISSION FOR ALL THE SIGN UPS HERE. HEARD THEY GET PAID £10 PER SIGN UP SO COULD MAKE A KILLING FROM HERE!
I USED CODE [removed], FROM MY LOCAL POST OFFICE. I RANG A FEW DAYS AFTER THEIR £50CASHBACK DEAL FINISHED. HOWEVER, AFTER TELLING THEM THAT I WAS GIVEN THIS CODE "1524054"BY MY LOCAL POST OFFICE AND THAT THEY STILL HAD LEAFLETS OUT WITH THE DEAL ON THEY HONORED THE CASHBACK TO BE PAID TO ME ON MY 2ND AND 3RD BILL. GIVE THIS A TRY. GOOD LUCK. MY LINE INSTALLED AND BROADBAND UP AND RUNNING. ASK ME IF YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS.

just spoke with customer services they confirmed that there is no optional extra add on for £4.50 for unlimited uk calls. me thinks this guy is out to make packet from this deal as there is also a £10 refer a friend payment made for each new customer sign up. I asked about this code and was told that the code does not relate to any deal or extra benefit for you just a sign up payment being paid to someone, but couldn't tell me who. 10% loved ones discount given to all as standard, just have to register the numbers once connected, you also get to make a 60 minute call to each of them for free on their birthdays and on xmas day! I suppose you should go to you local post office and use their code or you could use my local post offices number "1524054" run by a lovely brother and sister team. plus they are under threat of closure so could probably do with the sales.

Mobile rates reduced Daytime from 13.28p to 11p per minute and Evening from 8.17p to 5p per minute.

Cheers OP.Also, would greatly appreciate if anyone knows a cheap broadband provider that isn't a 12 month contract (I may move again in 6 months) so would rather a rolling broadband contract (if that exists!). Literally only need phone line and broadband, not interested in calls etc. Cheers

its one or two hours work (cant remeber which) from the point of entry, … its one or two hours work (cant remeber which) from the point of entry, not 5m.

It depends on the banding that the CP pays openreach for, some installs come with unlimited banding/timing, others come with none which include a NTE5 within 5m of the point of entry of the cable. Most engineers will give a little leeway, keep your openreach CSE filled with coffee/tea and biscuits and he'll "probably" be a lot more accommodating to your needs.

Wow...thanks for posting that link. Some serious poor reviews and these are very recent reviews, with the current promotion on i can't see things improving too quickly.I was tempted to get a second line in but have enough problems with BT at the moment and can't help thinking the engineer might banjax my current wiring and make things worse.

I might move in 2 to 3 months time and just wondering if this would be okay for broadband, does anyone know if this can be fitted in a 3rd floor flat? and also what ISP offers contracts for 1-3 months for a reasonable cost?

Okay forget about the question above, after reading these i'm staying with T-mobile broadband until I move

I like this BT and there £5 charge per quater may just have lost a customer:

payments to suit you - by direct debit, over the phone or at your local Post Office® branch and the price is the same whichever you choose
  29. deleted514908's avatar
This may only be for broadband connection (its not particularly clear) but on the "details" tab one of the points is:-

"free connection making it easy to get you started 3"

then the relevant point at the bottom is:-

"3 subject to current service provider"

So it may only be free when switching from certain other providers e.g. not from TalkTalk which does not connect through BT. Also there is a 12 month minimum contract for broadband but i realise that the original posted deal doesn't mention broadband.

Is there an option to add broadband, or can anyone suggest decent monthly broadband suppliers, I recall some used to offer monthly contracts in return for not supplying a router/modem and having a nominal connection charge like £25 for doing so.
