If the option is open to you, wireless would be a better alternative for the xbox.

Speed is only important if your streaming hd stuff.

Otherwise wireless is fine. Plus its £20 cheaper and doesnt use a power socket.

I use a PANASONIC BL-PA100KT to stream HD stuff to my PS3/Xbox and it's pretty good. A quick search on ebay and you can find them selling for between £40-60 brand new.

Or sending BIG files, and wireless is lousy if you have not got ideal conditions like long distance or in some stone buildings for example.

I have 85Mbs ones and find them fantastic, (not just good!) for most purposes, including streaming (Non-HD) stuff, but even a simple data back up across the network is not exactly blistering and not close to 100Mbs wired networking.

Mine don't directly use a power socket either, as they work fine with adaptors of various types so long as you do not use SURGE PROTECTED ones! I even have mine connected to radio controlled switched sockets for turning them on and off conveniently.[/SIZE]

Potentially cheap, but are they interchangeable as most ones are? - this review: ( http://www.pcpro.co.uk/shopper/reviews/118168/panasonic-blpa100kt.html ) doesn't make that clear, & it does say that they are faster than the 85Mbs ones, but well short of the 200Mbs!

I would agree with you normally, except we were talking about the xbox 360 and you cant send files to it.

ok LOL!!! who's router / modem can handle 200mbps ???

most pc's have 100mbps max xonnections ... so 85mbs is more than fast enought unless u have a giga switch eouter/ modem ....

Gigabit connections (1000Mbs) are not exactly rare now, (seeing a card costs about a Tenner) and besides, no technology gets 100% full performance of it's nominal capacity, (just look at how slow supposed 54Mbs wireless is in practice!) so it allows for the shortfall there too.
